Killian frowned while scrolling through his inbox. It's been a week since his boss left, and he rarely called or replied to his messages. He was a bit hurt, but he knew how busy the guy was, so he didn't pester him.

"He said it's only for a week…" Killian mumbled to himself. He flinched when someone placed a box of chocolates on his desk so suddenly.

Looking up, he saw Ingrid's ex-boyfriend, Charles, smiling down at him. That smile was the same he wore when he called Killian to talk before, so Killian put up his guard again.

Charles might have noticed it, so he put his hands up and stepped back. "I don't mean harm, Killian. I misunderstood and accidentally injured you, so I wanted to apologize."

"But you already did…" Killian said, still suspicious at the kind gesture of the alpha.
