Merry Christmas! Start from Chapter 176!
"Friends, family, and all of our loved ones- we are gathered here to witness the joining of two souls as one. To celebrate the expression of love and togetherness, and to witness these two cherished souls in name, in family, and in life."
The flowers were blooming. The birds were singing. The sun shone down overhead. There was nary a cloud in sight, and everything was so, so, so utterly perfect. And-
"I love you, Penny," Ruby whispered quietly, holding Penny's hands gently and gazing into the brilliant green eyes of her soon to be wife, the crosshair pattern present within those beautiful, green, gemstone-like irises shifting and turning with the dilation of the ultra fine shutters within. "I love you so, so much. I'm so, so, so happy right now…"
"And I love you, Ruby… we've come so far, and gone through so much…" Penny's smile was a soft, wavering thing- not quite as bright as Ruby's for all that their love matched each other perfectly, but just because she was forcing herself to not cry as hard as she could. It wouldn't do to ruin her makeup or her dress by just throwing herself into Ruby's arms now, would it?
It had been a long, difficult journey, but they'd finally made it.
They were getting married!
And all it took was defeating Salem once and for all, graduating from Beacon (full honors, awarded for exemplary service and demonstration of skill for both of them) after a mysteriously boring and unusually quiet fourth year, going out into the world and learning that, with Ruby and Penny's massive blast of silver light, the grimm hordes were finally starting to thin out for the first time in history- save only for the deepest caves and depths of the darkest oceans, and just… life.
Ruby had decided that, with the grimm hordes slowly dying away little by little and with the greatest threat to humanity starting to die out, she would take a few courses in Atlas for prosthetics engineering- as a way to help out with Penny's dad and eventually continue his research and life's work when he inevitably retired.
Penny, meanwhile, had gone into civic engineering- despite her design specs being that of a military grade anti-grimm combat robot, she had a knack for construction and building, and she wanted to be out there, helping expand humanity's frontiers- to take back the world that had been so narrowed down into little spots of safety and life among the dense forests and few trails that allowed them to survive. She wanted to make sure that Mountain Glenn never happened again- to make sure that any future attempts like it would succeed beyond anyone's wildest measure.
It had taken time. Life had happened- beautiful, average, painfully normal life.
They went on dates, they took things slow. They lived together, laughed together, loved together. They watched on and cheered when Blake, Yang, and Weiss got married, cried rivers of tears out of sheer happiness when Cinder, Emerald, and Neo got married, watched as Team STRQ reformed in full- however halting, awkward, and a little jagged their interactions were now. Ruby was especially grateful for that, helping out wherever she could as her parents and family settled back together however it had to happen.
It wasn't perfect. Nothing in life ever was. It was rough, it was a little sloppy, a little uneven, a little bit slapdash. There was a lot of compromise and many, many visits to the relationship counselor in Vale for them, but Ruby was still happy that she had her mom back.
Yang had punched Raven in the face the first time she saw Raven kissing Summer in the kitchen.
And the next two times after that.
The third time, Raven punched her and the resultant brawl between mother and daughter nearly ended with a trip to the hospital.
There were good times, there were bad times, there were times when the world seemed like it would go on the brink of war as the Kingdoms began to expand fully and start spreading out- but thankfully, it never happened.
Jacques Schnee died, too, at one point.
Weiss never did say what happened, but Ruby did catch her, Yang, and Blake coming back from a trip to Atlas with the distinct scent of old blood coming from Myrtenaster's blade.
There was always trouble.
The world didn't just turn into a paradise overnight just because Salem was gone. There was still crime, poverty, societal ills… there were still large companies oppressing their workers, the imbalance of martial force between Atlas and the other Kingdoms, massive criminal empires like Spider, and of course, the ever present issue of faunus racism which continued on in the years after Salem's ultimate defeat.
But those would be solved in time, little by little by little. One problem after the next.
"You may say your vows." the officiant behind them bowed his head, taking a step back and allowing them to speak.
"Ruby Rose… when I first met you, I knew that you weren't just a girl. I knew that you were something much, much more… and although our first ever meeting got off to a rocky start, your bright smile and earnest friendship made me want to learn more about you, to become your friend and be by your side for as long as I could. And, over the years that we have been together, that feeling of friendship became nothing more than all consuming love. I know that I love you, and that I will be with you always. In sickness, in health, in rich times and poor, through good times and bad, no matter what may come or what may follow, I will be forever yours- we are two souls joined as one, and although we have known that for so, so long… I want to show it to the world as well. You are my world, my wishing star, and I take you as my dearly beloved wife."
"Penny Polendina… I love you. I love you more than I could have ever thought possible. You are the light of my life, the strongest, kindest, most beautiful girl that I know. From the moment I first laid eyes on you, I knew you were something special, something amazing. And as time went on, you proved that again and again and again. I will be with you always, in everything that happens, in everything that comes. From now until forever I know I want to be with you- in sickness, in health, rich and poor, good times and bad. Nothing will take me away from you, Penny, and no matter what happens I know that we'll get through it together- two souls joined as one. I've known that for just as long as you have, and our souls know it too. I want to show the world how much you mean to me. You are my sun and star, my firefly, and I take you as my dearly beloved wife.
The world seemed to fade away between them as they spoke their vows, all but ignoring everything around them as they fought back tears, sniffling and smiling as they gazed into each other's eyes- the wind picking up and bringing with it the scent of roses and spring as their Auras began to meld together in full- two souls, joined as one. Golden light suffused their bodies, lit up with the power of love and joy and happiness, emotions roiling and pressing against each other in an unstoppable tide that bubbled over them both.
She's the most beautiful girl in the world right now, they each thought in unison, unable to tear their eyes away from each other, unable to even think about looking away.
"The brides may now kiss."
Ruby and Penny's lips met in the middle, sharing a kiss filled with every last bit of love they could hold.
Rose petals filled the air as the world around them filled with the light of their love, almost like a second sunrise.
The crowd cheered.
All was right in the world.
