Capítulo 66: Fire in the village

The first mission with the new leader of Team 13 went smoothly. Ryo used his tracking skills to locate the lost cat, while Haruka investigated with the people in the area, and Denji... Well, he was doing something around, really. It didn't take long for the three of them to find the lost kitten still on the same day.

After that, Tora picked one or two more missions of the same level, where they had to search for lost items, help in stores, and even take care of children. This was the routine of Team 13 after the change of senseis. Ryo wasn't unhappy with it, but he still had some time before the end of the year.

He wanted to accomplish at least one B-rank mission by the end of the year, but he didn't know if it would be possible given the difficulty of the missions. He wanted this because his goal was to participate in the Chunin exams that would take place the following year, and for that, Tora had to recommend them for the exam.

Ryo knew that Denji also had this goal; he didn't talk much about it, but he didn't need to either. He was always talking about wanting to fight stronger ninjas and things like that all the time without stopping, becoming annoying at times.

"We have another D-rank mission today; let's complete it before noon," Tora spoke again to them, while Denji complained about it all, but he also diligently did the mission, which was strange. Haruka never spoke much; she only spoke more when she had to reprimand Denji or ask something to Ryo.

Ryo, on the other hand, was always calm in this type of mission; it was a good change of pace, but still not satisfying enough for him. Against what Haruka and Denji thought, Ryo stopped in front of the sensei and asked with a serious tone, "Tora-sensei, when are we going on a C-rank mission?"

The sensei then stopped walking, looking at Ryo with the same neutral look as always. "We'll start doing higher-rank missions as soon as a good one appears. You are already capable of going on a C-rank mission, but I want you to do a few more D-rank ones to improve your coordination. Then we'll move on to a higher-rank mission."

With Tora's response, the three of them fell silent and continued with the missions given by the sensei for some time. Some days passed while they did D-rank missions every day for about a week.

Saturday morning;

The trio of Team 13 was early in the morning waiting at the exit of Konoha, waiting for their sensei. Denji was excited because for the first time, they were going to do a C-rank mission. The three were ready, but it wasn't a long-duration mission.

"Everyone ready? Our mission will be a few kilometers from here; we'll investigate and destroy a small group of bandits. I gave you the details yesterday. I hope you've prepared," Tora appeared flickering next to them, speaking.

Ryo was prepared; they were going to find and destroy a small group of bandits forming near a small rural village within Konoha's territory. There wasn't much information, but it was a small group of 10 people, and there were no reports of ninjas with them.

"Yes, we're ready, and we've already checked the equipment twice," Haruka said, looking at Denji and Ryo, who nodded along with her. And then Team 13 once again set out from Konoha to do a mission, now a mission that involved real combat. In Ryo's view, it wouldn't be too difficult, maybe only if there were hidden ninjas among them.

Given that Ryo couldn't sense others' chakra yet, his ability was a very good one that the coin gave him, but he couldn't see anything other than shapes. And the real sensory ability could see the chakra of beings. Ryo would suggest Haruka learn that eventually, and he would learn too, as it was an important skill to have.

As they left Konoha, the team began flickering through the trees. The path to the village where they had to carry out the mission had a denser forest along the way, so flickering was much more effective since they could jump from branch to branch to the location quickly.

Ryo didn't see anything out of the ordinary as they jumped through the trees; perhaps the fact that there was no path on the ground where they passed helped in the absence of human presence along the way, which was a good thing, but it could also be dangerous if they were ambushed by a group of ninjas.

Something that Ryo totally thought could happen given his luck in finding trouble, but he didn't want to encounter any situation that couldn't be avoided, so he constantly kept checking the area they passed with the waves of location from the golden coin.

Fortunately, during the journey there, he didn't encounter anything threatening along the way, and they all managed to reach the small village safely. But as they approached, there was a surprise; from a distance, they could see smoke rising from the village.

"Denji, Ryo, go ahead; eliminate any bandits on the site. If there's any ninja with them, join forces to fight against them. Haruka, scout the area around to see if there are bandits, don't start a fight with them," Tora said, flickering away from the location at a much faster speed than he had shown until then.

Denji and Ryo looked at each other, flickering towards the village as fast as they could. Denji was already wielding the large staff that was his weapon, while Ryo had one hand resting on the hilt of his katana, ready to draw it at any moment to cut down anyone.

As they landed on the ground in the middle of the small village, they could see some bodies of people already dead; it was a gruesome scene, blood was splattered everywhere. From inside one of the houses, a scream was heard as a young girl ran out of the house, Denji managed to grab her before she fell to the ground.

"Come back here, woman! We'll kill every one of you since you didn't—" And then, a man in dirty clothes and a sword in hand emerged from the house behind her, yelling, but his voice was cut off. Not only that, but Ryo appeared behind the man while sheathing his katana again, and the man fell to the ground after receiving a quick diagonal cut; he died instantly.

"Denji, go after the others. I'll leave a clone here to assist her and gather information," he said as Denji flickered towards more screams. Ryo, on the other hand, made a hand seal, and a Shadow Clone appeared. It knew what to do, and Ryo also went after Denji.

"Don't worry, we're Konoha ninjas. We'll save those who are still alive and treat you," the clone spoke while the woman didn't understand much; she was still in shock, which made her not move or speak. But the clone quickly began to treat the injuries on her body, which were mostly burns from the fire.
