With Team 13 then forming up to flank the group of unknown individuals, they would have an advantage if they eventually had to fight, given the advantageous positioning. Ryo, Haruka, and Denji were a bit tense about this, not that they were afraid.
But if it did come to a real fight, it would be their first real combat. Ryo was the calmest of the three; he knew it wouldn't be anything like when he encountered Itachi. Here and now, he was the threat, the strong and prepared ninja.
It didn't take long for Kakashi to get closer to the group of men, though he took the normal road, pretending not to have noticed the possible ambush. Of course, he only did this because he hadn't sensed any chakra coming from the eight men hiding. And as he reached the right spot, eight people leaped from the middle of the woods.
"Stop right there, Konoha rat!" The oldest of the group spoke, all of them having malicious grins. Even seeing Kakashi's jounin attire, none of them seemed to care. "Hand over all your money and food, and we'll let you go unharmed."
Kakashi looked at the group of men, aside from what seemed to be the leader whom he was speaking with, the others were younger, ranging from 16 to 25 years old. Kakashi recalled the quick investigation he had conducted about young men mysteriously disappearing. Well, a portion of them had now appeared before him.
"Well, well. Didn't expect a bunch of youngsters to try and rob me," Kakashi spoke calmly, raising his arms. The bandits, seeing this, exchanged looks and started walking towards Kakashi, who made a hand gesture as if giving a thumbs-up. But it was the signal for his team to spring into action.
As this happened, three shurikens flew from one side of the forest, and three kunais from the other, while a young man with a staff leaped from behind them. The thrown weapons hit their targets in non-lethal spots like arms and legs. Meanwhile, Denji jumped on the man beside the group leader, hitting him on the head with the staff, knocking him out.
In a fraction of a second, only the oldest man was left standing, while all the others lay on the ground, clutching the spots they were hit. None of them expected this, all their focus was on Kakashi, and even if they were alert, he wasn't a real ninja, and neither seemed to be the others, but they were.
"Alright, I want to know what you, Mr. Bandit, gain from gathering these young ones to rob others," Kakashi said, as two more people flickered into the scene, one from each side, Ryo and Haruka.
"You... you tricked us! Damn ninja, just like those other damn ones! I won't tell you anything!" The older man's voice dripped with hatred as the others on the ground began to look at Team 13 with anger too. But even though he said they wouldn't talk, the bandit leader had spoken; there was a group of possibly rogue ninjas doing something bad on the outskirts of the Fire Country territory.
"Tie them up," the sensei ordered, and the three of them grabbed some ropes and started tying up the bandits. None of them really resisted. "Here's the plan. Tell me where you came from and who took you from your places. Clearly, it's the first time you've done this."
But still, the man refused to talk, and they wouldn't get anywhere like this, and the mission would be delayed too. With that in mind, Kakashi made some hand seals as a blade appeared. "Kuchiyose no jutsu!" Soon, from the smoke, some dogs appeared. "Hey Kakashi, what's this about?" Kakashi pointed to the group of now tied bandits. "Take them back to Konoha," he said, writing something on a piece of paper.
And he handed it to the summoned dog, putting it in one of the pockets of its clothes. "Ryo, make a clone to accompany them, you can use half the chakra, it will be a long way back." Ryo nodded, making the hand seal, and a shadow clone appeared beside him. Currently, a clone with half the chakra could last almost a whole day, if it didn't have to use chakra.
Soon, the situation was resolved, and the group of bandits was taken away by the dogs and Ryo's clone. Kakashi looked at them as he spoke. "Well done, everyone. The shurikens didn't hit any lethal spots and managed to disarm the bandits. The kunais could have been a bit better, but with the force applied, the job was done. And Denji, when dealing with regular people, you don't need to use so much force."
He quickly analyzed the strikes, and soon Team 13 was on the move again, now moving faster as they had to complete another mission in a village a few kilometers away from where they were currently.
It would have been ideal if they were already halfway to the village, but there was nothing to be done. Kakashi and the other three used the flickering a few times in sequence, but the sensei knew they couldn't push too hard since Ryo already had less than half the chakra available for use and would only recover after resting, not all the chakra possibly.
After another half-day of traveling, Ryo and the others arrived at a small village. It wasn't very large, just small houses and some fields. Sitting in a chair was an old lady with some threads in her hands, possibly preparing them for sewing. Upon seeing the ninjas, she put the threads aside and stood up.
"Oh! You've arrived, how delightful. Did you come to get Miss Fluffy?" She quickly took out a paper from her pocket, showing them a flyer of a missing cat. It was a black cat with a red collar around its neck. "Here, here, take this. Find her, please! I'm too old for this; she's been missing for a few days now."
Kakashi stayed to talk with the elderly woman while the other three members walked around the area, occasionally receiving some looks from the villagers, who were mostly old or children, rarely seeing any young adults.
