Capítulo 3: Chapter 2 Unveiling Dreams

That day was just like any other school day, Shivin's thoughts buzzed with anticipation and a significant choice he had made. He was firm in his intention to open up to his parents, to disclose his ambitions of pursuing higher education overseas. Blinded by hope and confidence, he didn't see anything coming. Shivin anticipated nothing but an encouraging and elated reaction from his parents, envisioning a moment of delight and validation in their eyes upon hearing his decision.

As he got ready for school, Shivin meticulously dressed in his school uniform and neatly arranged his books in his backpack. He glanced at himself in the mirror, gathering the courage to face the day ahead. His father, Mr. Khatri, entered the room, a hint of worry etched on his face. Shivin needed to hurry up, as his father was aware of the deadly traffic they would face on their way to his school.

"Shivin, are you ready?" his father asked, his voice filled with concern.

Shivin nodded, trying to hide his nervousness. "Yes, Dad, I'm almost ready."

They made their way to the car, the morning air filled with a mix of anticipation and anxiety. During the drive, Shivin's mind initially raced with thoughts of his plan, rehearsing the words he would use to express his desire to study abroad to his parents. Suddenly, Shivin desired to assert his independence and demonstrate that he could handle some things on his own. He wished to take the public transport bus and make his way back home instead of having his father pick him up later in the evening.

With the intent to feel grown up and a little more sophisticated, he sought to prove that he didn't need his parents or any adult guidance for everything in his teens.

"Don't come in the evening to fetch me. I would like to do this on my own," Shivin asserted.

"What are you on about? I can't take any chance," said his father, evidently displeased.

Shivin viewed his status as a single child more as a bane. In his eyes his parents were not acting rationally but seemingly naive and overwhelmed with emotional attachment and immaturity, and overthinking things, making it complicated for him.

He resented their overbearing attitude ans couldn't grasp why they were so difficult to deal with. Finally, Shivin managed to convince him by fabricating an excuse about going to a nearby restaurant with his friends after school to grab some chicken rolls. He assured him that his friends would accompany him the entire time until he reached home.

"You don't understand I don't have time to meet my friends on holidays which is why we decided to meet today for once after school hours. Is this too much to ask for?" said a displeased Shivin. "What's there to worry? I'll be joined by Kunal and Navneet on my way to home. We three will be traveling together."

His father relented and gave him 100 bucks. Shivin was satisfied with this outcome, as it meant he could embark on his solo journey home and experience a sense of self-reliance.

Upon reaching Sri Chaitanya Techno School, Vidyaranyapura, Shivin bid adieu to his father, who wished him luck with a reassuring smile. Shivin took a deep breath, steeling himself for the day ahead. The first lecture of the day was Physics, a subject that had always intrigued Shivin. However, on this particular day, the lecture seemed mundane and uninteresting. His mind wandered, filled with thoughts of studying abroad and the steps he needed to take to make it a reality. Caught up in his daydreams, Shivin failed to pay attention to the teacher's explanations. The lecturer, Mrs. SML, noticed Shivin's lack of engagement and decided to reprimand him.

"Shivin Khatri, since you seem to be so disinterested in my lecture, perhaps you'd prefer to stand outside and reflect on your lack of focus," Mrs. SML sternly declared.

Feeling a mix of embarrassment and frustration, Shivin made his way to the corridor, standing alone as punishment.

He leaned against the wall, contemplating the consequences of his distraction. Little did he know that this moment would set in motion a chain of events that would further shape his path. As Shivin stood outside, lost in his thoughts, a junior student named Suyash approached him. Suyash was known for his avidity to explore educational opportunities abroad, and he had heard about Shivin's expertise in this area.

"Hey, Shivin," Suyash called out. "I've been meaning to ask you about studying abroad, especially in the UK. I have so many questions, and I was wondering if you could help me out."

Shivin looked at Suyash, his curiosity piqued. He knew that helping Suyash would not only assist him in his own journey but also provide an opportunity to share his knowledge with someone who shared a similar aspiration.

"Sure, Suyash," Shivin replied with a big smile. "Let's meet during recess, and I'll do my best to answer all your questions."

With a newfound purpose, Shivin impassively waited for recess, his mind racing with the information he could provide to Suyash. News of Shivin's expertise in study abroad matters had spread throughout the school, and it was not long before students and even teachers sought his guidance. It had become his unofficial role, one he had taken on with enthusiasm.

During the recess, Shivin and Suyash sat under the shade of a large tree, surrounded by the chatter of students. Suyash eagerly brought forth his list of questions, and Shivin patiently addressed each one, offering insights into the process of studying abroad, specific requirements for the UK, and tips on choosing the right university and course.

As Shivin spoke, his passion for studying abroad resonated in his words, captivating Suyash's attention. It was a moment of shared enthusiasm and aspiration, where dreams were nurtured and possibilities expanded. The recess ended all too soon, but the impact of their conversation lingered. Shivin realized that he not only had the knowledge but also the ability to inspire others to pursue their dreams. It fueled his determination to make his own dreams a reality and further solidified his decision to reveal his plans to his parents.

With the final bell of the day, signaling the end of school, Shivin gathered his belongings and made his way home. In the morning. After enjoying their chicken rolls, Shivin and his friends departed, each heading towards their own homes. Shivin chose to take the bus, and as he embarked on the journey, he experienced a sense of adulthood.

As he walked, the weight of his decision grew heavier, mingled with both excitement and apprehension. He knew that revealing his aspirations to his parents would not be an easy task, but he couldn't deny the burning desire within him. Upon reaching home, Shivin found his parents engaged in their daily routines. His mother, Mrs. Khatri, was in the kitchen, preparing dinner, while his father sat in the living room, engrossed in a newspaper.

"I see you are capable of coming back home alone," his mom commented.

"Yes, certainly I don't need you two for everything," asserted Shivin.

"Good on you. Anyways someday you'll live on your own and support yourself financially."

After changing his clothes, Shivin took a deep breath, summoning the courage to approach them. With a renewed sense of purpose, Shivin took a deep breath and look at his parents who sat on the couch. He could discern a blend of inquisitiveness and apprehension mirrored in their stares. He acknowledged that the moment had arrived where he could no longer keep his aspirations hidden. With a hopeful heart, he anticipated their surprise and expected them to be proud of his dedication and decision.
