Capítulo 12: Chapter 12: The Phase {Rewritten}

Arael—no, Eren—sat beneath the canopy, hunched over the carcass like a wild animal, tearing into the uncooked meat with a ferocity that bordered on madness.

The blood smeared across his face and hands only accentuated the scene, making him look less like a human and more like a deranged cannibal lost to his primal urges.

But… technically, the meat WAS cooked. If you considered the burst of energy from the pendant's attack that had charred the beast's flesh to a crisp, it wasn't completely raw.

Yeah, who the fuck was he kidding? He was eating like a fucking cannibal!

And the worst part? The satisfied look on his face with every bite he took. It was like he was enjoying this, savoring each mouthful of the beast's flesh as if it were the finest meal he'd ever had.

He couldn't understand it— he couldn't comprehend what was happening to him—but the primal satisfaction thrumming through his veins made it impossible to stop.

"This is not normal," he muttered to himself, staring down at his bloody hands, his face equally stained with the creature's lifeblood.

Of course, it wasn't normal! What kind of person eats raw meat and enjoys it? It was the epitome of abnormality, the apex of madness.

"Tch." He clicked his tongue, frustration gnawing at him as he continued his gruesome meal, even as a nagging feeling of wrongness clawed at the edges of his mind.

There was something deeply, disturbingly off about all of this.

"Back in that wretched house, I used mana, even if it was just a bit," he recalled, and his eyes widened in realization.

He instinctively reached for his neck, but there was nothing there. 'That's right—the neck chain only appeared when I somehow infused mana into it,' he thought, concentrating now, trying to manifest the chain once more.

But it was no use.

Something was wrong… Or rather… he was missing something.

'Eren didn't have mana—that's why he couldn't awaken his inherent bloodline. So how the hell did I use mana just a few hours ago, but now I can't?' He pondered deeply, the thoughts swirling chaotically in his mind as he struggled to piece together the mystery.

What was different between the him in that dilapidated building and the him now?

"Wait…!" The realization hit him like a lightning bolt.

"The pendant!"

He ripped the pendant from his neck and held it in his trembling hand. Concentrating again, he focused on his neck, just as he had before. And then…

"This…? This doesn't make any sense…" he whispered in disbelief as the neck chain suddenly manifested itself once more. It defied all logic. Why would a relic meant to protect him also harm him by halting his flow of mana…?

Why?

"NO FUCKING WAY. WAS… WAS THIS THE REASON HE COULDN'T AWAKEN?!" Eren's voice broke into a scream as the pieces started to fall into place. This pendant—this relic—was likely given to Eren by someone close to him.

Someone he trusted. If that's the case, then… could it be he had this pendant on him during his bloodline awakening?

"Tch." This was more complicated than he could have imagined. Relics were extremely valuable, expensive beyond measure. Whoever did this to him had to be someone of high standing, someone with the means and the motive.

It couldn't have been the Aurelious household—they had everything to gain from Eren's awakening. Well, except for his twin brother. But even Seth was unlikely to be responsible.

No, it had to be someone close to Eren. Someone he must have seen as a dear friend. Someone he must have held dearly, enough to keep such a gift on him even if it could potentially harm him. As a child of an aristocrat, Eren was trained to be deceitful, cunning, and to trust no one but himself. Yet, for him to have this pendant, it meant he held it very dearly.

But that only left the question of who he was so close to, who he trusted so implicitly that he accepted such a gift without caution.

"Ugh," Eren suddenly groaned, a sharp pain stabbing through his chest. It was so sudden that it caught him off guard, and he found himself clutching at his chest in agony.

The pain spread from his chest, searing through his veins like molten lava, burning him from the inside out.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" His scream tore through the stillness of the forest, piercing the dense canopy above. Birds scattered in fear, taking flight to escape whatever horror was unfolding below.

Eren's body convulsed, trembling violently as he was consumed by the pain. It felt like his flesh was being carved by searing hot knives, the agony unrelenting and all-encompassing. He wanted it to stop—would do anything to make it stop—but the torment only intensified.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" His cries echoed through the forest, the sound of his suffering carrying through the trees.

Through the haze of pain, Eren's gaze fell on his right arm, and he caught sight of something strange. Symbols—twisted, ancient symbols—were crawling their way from his arm to his wrist, then down to his fingers. They pulsed with a dark energy, each stroke burning into his skin, leaving behind a trail of agony.

Something was happening to him.

But....

He had no idea what it was.
