Fourteen and twenty.

Fourteen missing servants and twenty new faces.

Ellis had pulled me aside this morning with the observation, distraught over the sudden disappearance of the servants who'd tended to his every need for years. The same woman had been preparing his coffee for five years, and Ellis had noticed her absence this morning when no coffee had been made.

We'd both investigated briefly, but no one could say where the woman had gone. And, naturally, Ellis was more troubled with the "labor" of now needing to rehearse his coffee routine to a new servant.

It wouldn't be Ellis if he cared about anyone other than himself.
