Capítulo 318: Chapter 318: Don't Skimp on the Cost of a Room

Standing off to the side and quietly observing as Murphy directed the crew to continue filming, Gal Gadot couldn't help but recall a joke Murphy had made to Kara Faith during the preparation phase. Now seeing the script's words turn into real images, she suddenly felt those jesting remarks could become a dark reality for some.

At the time, Murphy humorously set a goal for the possible impact of this movie: "To end 15 million marriages or relationships."

Gal Gadot remembered clearly, Murphy had deliberately told Kara Faith that his biggest dream for "Gone Girl" was "to make this film the kind of date movie that would make couples break up after watching it. Maybe when people walk out of the cinema, they'll think, 'Maybe I really don't know you well enough...'"

She still remembered those words, "This is a movie about how well you truly know your partner. We're all too engrossed in popular culture and switching between different roles. How do you continue to accompany another person and accept the truths that already exist in the relationship? This story just makes that question all the more evident."

From reading the script to the actual filming, Gal Gadot hadn't really felt the story was heavily linked to marriage. Even if two people aren't married but live together, they will gradually discover the truths hidden behind each other's facades.

Some say that dating is like this: if the opponent is too weak, it's not worth the effort; if the opponent is too strong, you fear you can't win; if there's no opponent, you feel empty; an opponent that's neither here nor there might as well be no opponent at all.

Even the most confident individuals harbor this fear: when you finally show your true self to your loved one, they might not like what they see.

Nobody wants to find themselves in that position unless they meet a truly equal match.

Finding such an equal match is incredibly rare, and fortunately, she was one of the lucky ones.

After a day's work, Murphy delegated the remaining minor tasks to Paul Wilson and took Gal Gadot to a restaurant in the villa area for dinner. Afterward, they strolled leisurely along the lakeside path.

The lakeside at night was very serene and enchanting. The path was lined on one side with tall, robust trees that rustled pleasantly in the breeze, refreshing the spirit. Murphy led Gal Gadot to a wooden dock by the lake, where the silvery moonlight cast a soft net over them.

"Is the shooting over here almost done?"

Standing by the dock's railing, Gal Gadot asked, "When do we head back to Los Angeles?"

"We're a bit behind schedule," Murphy embraced Gal Gadot from behind, his body pressing against her shapely back. "We should be back by early February, and wrap up the shooting by mid-February."

Gal Gadot caught Murphy's wandering hands around her waist and turned to glare at him, but Murphy seized her chin and firmly kissed her lips.

Feeling warmth at her back, Gal Gadot opened her mouth and gently bit Murphy's lip as a reminder, "Dear, do you want us to be watched?"

Although she was quite open with Murphy in private, she wouldn't allow such behavior in this setting.

"Okay, okay." Murphy hugged her tighter. "I'll stay still."

While being in Murphy's arms felt cozy, Gal Gadot knew she needed to distract him, aware of her fatal attraction to her boyfriend.

The best topic was undoubtedly the movie, especially the one currently being filmed.

"This morning, when I came over, I saw you shooting Amy's self-harm scene." She shifted slightly forward. "Charlize Theron was smashing her own face with a hammer. If it's to prove prior domestic abuse by her husband, does that mean she plans to return to the public eye? If so, the entire façade of her death falls apart, right?"

"Dear, you really didn't read the script closely," Murphy knew Gal Gadot wasn't fond of his films, but he still explained softly, "Amy's initial plan was to indulge herself and then commit suicide, framing her husband for murder. Her diary hinted at domestic abuse, so she used the hammer on her face to create evidence of it for when her body would be discovered."

Murphy leaned in closer, pressing against Gal Gadot. "But then she changed her mind. She decided not to die because she felt dying for a man's mistake wasn't worth it, so from that moment, her previous plans changed."

"Are you trying to push me into the lake?" Gal Gadot complained, and Murphy stepped back. "I just missed you too much."

Gal Gadot turned around, looking at Murphy, "Then... let's go back."

"Sure." Murphy took her hand and they headed toward the hotel.

It was still a long walk back to the hotel, and Gal Gadot could tell Murphy seemed ready to pounce at any moment. Thankfully, the occasional passerby on the lakeside path kept him at bay.

As they neared the villa area by the lake, a tall, striking woman with short blonde hair approached them under the moonlight. She stood out distinctly.

"Hi, Murphy," she greeted first, and Murphy responded with a smile, "Hi, Sally."

The path was narrow, and as they met, Murphy pulled Gal Gadot closer, "Sally, this is my girlfriend, Gal Gadot. Gal, this is Charlize Theron, known as the South African diamond."

"You're really beautiful," Gal Gadot's compliment didn't seem merely polite. "I haven't seen any actress as gorgeous as you."

"Thank you," Charlize Theron smiled. "You're very beautiful too."

After a brief exchange, Theron moved on.

Watching Theron's tall figure recede, Gal Gadot felt puzzled, "She seems quite aloof."

Turning back, she took Murphy's hand and continued toward the hotel. "She wasn't very warm to you either. Is it because of me?"

"It has nothing to do with you," Murphy sensed the implication in her words. "Aside from a few friends, she's a bit cold to most people, maybe due to her experiences."

"What experiences?" Gal Gadot asked curiously.

Murphy wouldn't casually discuss unexposed secrets, but Theron's story had been repeatedly highlighted by the media after her Oscar win, and it was common knowledge—unless Gal Gadot was not interested in celebrity gossip.

Murphy gestured subtly backward, "Do you think she's beautiful?"

"Very beautiful," Gal Gadot responded without hesitation. "Not just beautiful, she has a very special aura, unlike the purely decorative type like Jessica Alba."

"Her father tried to assault her," Murphy said sympathetically, "around when she was fifteen."

Gal Gadot widened her eyes in shock, "There are such scoundrels?"

"Her mother protected her," Murphy sighed. "But she ended up killing her father."

Hearing this, Gal Gadot was astounded, seemingly unable to believe it.

Murphy gave her a gentle tug, "Everyone has their misfortunes."

Gal Gadot nodded silently, no longer speaking.

As they approached the hotel where the crew was staying, rustling sounds emerged from the nearby woods. Murphy glanced over, noticing two actors from the crew engaging in a tryst. Their silhou

ettes were unfamiliar, obviously not people they knew well.

"Really..." Gal Gadot also noticed, "Aren't they afraid of being seen?"

She blinked, suddenly asking, "Did people like Downey do the same before?"

"No!" Murphy shook his head firmly. "They would get a room."

The risk was much greater for famous actors. Who knew how many paparazzi were lurking near the crew?

As before, Murphy seemed impulsive, but he would not really go that far—mostly just kissing and embracing Gal Gadot outside.

He had learned a profound lesson from Kristen Stewart's scandal during the filming of "Snow White and the Huntsman," where she was caught having an affair with the director in the woods. It's normal for actors to develop feelings for directors during a film, even if they are in relationships. She was just unlucky to get caught...

That's why you shouldn't skimp on the cost of a room.

Such incidents were hardly considered scandals in Hollywood.

During idle chats on the set of "Deadpool," Jessica Alba had openly told Murphy and others about dating the lead actor during the filming of "End of Days," leading to overly loud encounters in a trailer that the whole crew could hear...

Moreover, apart from hookups, crew members often enjoyed doing drugs together. Jonah Hill was typical of this, and while Murphy never participated, he wouldn't stop them. This was not just common in Hollywood but across American society.

Although drugs, including marijuana, were illegal in most states, as long as there was no drug trafficking, no crimes committed under the influence, no public disturbances, and no smoking in front of police, generally, there wouldn't be any issues.

Like Robert Downey Jr., who was just unfortunate to have someone out to get him.
