—Alexander POV—
"That was fucking hot," I cursed as I adjusted myself.
"Gross man," Lex threw a pillow at me, but I managed to catch it.
Fast reflexes.
"You know I love it when that woman stands up to me," I said with a smile as I thought of how she argued that I couldn't control her.
Oh darling I'll give you all the control you want out here, but in the bedroom, you'll be all mine.
"I don't need to hear about you getting a boner from my fucking cousin," he groaned as he made his way back behind his desk and dove into work.
"Oh, I'd love to fuck your cousin," I answered, grinning from ear to ear. He walked into that one.
He threw me a middle finger, not bothering to lift his head to look at me.
"Isn't this what normal best friends talk about?" I asked, teasing him as I picked up the cup of coffee my Lili had made for me.
Coffee with two sugars, just as I liked it. I couldn't believe she still remembered.
"Yeah, but most normal people aren't engaged to their best friend's closest living relative," Lex rolled his eyes at me, making me laugh. "I support you man but I don't want to hear you talking about fucking my cousin."
"You want nieces and nephews right? You do know I need to—" I began to say, much to Lex's disgust.
"I know how kids are made, Alexander," he hissed. "I don't need the birds and bees talk from you. It was bad enough having it from Mama and Papa."
"Alright, I'll stop," I told him.
I knew that the topic of his parents was a touchy one.
"Not so fun when the tables are turned, are they," I teased him.
Normally it was Lex doing the teasing and me being the stoic one, but something had been on his mind. It's actually why I pestered him to get my fiancée to join us, but the moment I saw how their employees looked at her, I lost it.
"Yeah, can you be less fun now," he grumbled. "Why are you even here? Shouldn't you be getting ready for your big party and date with my cousin?"
"I should," I said with a nod as I got up and made a move to leave.
The only reason I had come over was to see her.
I wanted to make sure that Lilith was okay, that she wasn't too shaken by the photos or too stressed about tonight, but it seemed she wasn't bothered at all.
"She hasn't seen the photos," Lex called out as I placed my hand on the door handle.
"How come?" I asked.
The photos were everywhere.
It was all over social media, I had even seen some of Lex's employees trying to zoom in to get a better view of Lilith, but I made sure not a hint of who she was was in the photos I leaked.
"Lili has been avoiding social media since coming back," he said leaning back. "I don't think she wants to see what people have been saying about you or about her."
"She should know that whatever they are saying about me isn't true," I said with a frown.
"Doesn't make it hurt any less when she sees rumors of you and some tycoon's daughter coming out of a meeting with a lipstick stain on your collar," he pointed out.
"I never make a move on them," I glare at him.
Lex knows there is only one woman I've ever wanted, only one that held my heart.
"I know that, but does she?" he asks me. His voice is borderline playful, so we're back to our old roles, to how we normally are as friends. "Will you ever tell my cousin how you feel about her?"
"We both know she'll think it's a trap," I grumble. "My actions will speak louder than my words, trust me."
"Whatever man," he says with a shrug, dropping the topic. "See you tonight, I guess."
"See you," I said with a nod as I walked out of his office.
I do a quick scan of the people outside, surprised that his employees are not gossiping among themselves.
Or maybe they had just quickly returned to their desks, making it seem like they didn't want to talk about me and my engagement or my friendship with their boss.
I was disappointed when I didn't see her among them.
Maybe she had a meeting, or maybe she had been asked to do something.
It was also entirely possible that she was avoiding me.
I didn't bother to ask for her. I knew I would be seeing Lilith tonight anyway, so without any hesitation, I walked to the VIP elevator.
"Mr. Harris!" someone called out, making me turn.
I knew it wasn't her, but I couldn't help but be hopeful.
A young woman with black hair and tanned skin ran up to me. She was somewhat familiar, but I couldn't quite place where I knew her from.
"Who are you?" I asked, my voice sounding a little bit colder than I had intended.
Did I leave anything in Lex's office?
"Mr. Harris, we met before," she declared.
Of course, we met before, I was in Lexington's office often enough to have met his employees more than once.
She sifted her weight between her feet, clearly nervous about our interaction.
"What I mean was, sir, we met at a social gathering before. You know my father," she told me.
"Do I do business with him?" I asked.
"You do," she said.
Ah, another woman that was trying to take my Lili's place. I couldn't let them think that they ever could.
"Then we don't have any reason to talk if I simply do business with your father," I declared as I pressed the elevator button.
As the doors opened and I turned to leave, she quickly wrapped a small hand on my wrist.
"Wait, Alexi!"
I would have shoved her away the moment she called me by that name.
Only family and friends called me that. She had no right.
But before I could act, a small gasp came from behind me.
I turned to find my fiancée standing in the elevator glaring at the young woman's hand on my wrist.
"I don't even know you," I loudly said making sure everyone within earshot knew.
I yanked my wrist from her hand and pushed Lilith back into the elevator and quickly closed the doors.
I needed to talk to my fiancée. I needed to explain to her that there was no one but her.
