Capítulo 9: Secret admirer

They had no choice but to recognise her. They appeared benevolent to the outside world but when she was forced to go to their home she would be treated badly. This was the reason she was so reclused and didn't speak much. She found that the less she spoke the less she drew attention to herself.

Her mother got enough money to pay for a house and provide all of Circe's basic necessities but in exchange, she lost all her expensive clients. Instead of lying low and spending the money to buy a proper house and take care of her daughter, Perse tried to live a lifestyle she couldn't afford. She spent the money on luxury clothes, bags and expensive trips which didn't include her daughter.

But after Circe turned eighteen, she was cut off and now she had to return to her roots that is selling her body and scamming men.

Her mother's sins followed Circe wherever she went. At school, her mother was rumoured to have slept with people's husbands and some irrational wives would find her and yell at her in front of an entire class.

Because Circe was extremely smart some kids got jealous of her and started rumours that her results were fake because her mother had slept with the teachers.

When someone brought up the fact that more than half of her teachers were female they would claim that Perse was a minx that ate both men and women. They even said she would drop out eventually and sell herself like her mother.

Circe thought at the end of elementary school her troubles would be over. She would get a fresh new start with new friends but she was wrong.

Trouble followed her to high school and was even more brutal than before. She was bullied left, right and centre. But what was amazing about her was that her grades didn't slip no matter what. It was as though studying was the perfect retreat for her. This was why when she was accepted to the Ambrogio School of Supernatural Arts and Sciences of her own merit without the Gelland family's help it surprised them.

It was quite rare for ordinary humans to be accepted unless they had the backing of a powerful family and taking expensive elixirs to keep up with their peers. Suddenly they cared for her giving her money for necessities as her tuition fees were covered by her scholarship.

Circe was thrilled to be in college and thought her past ordeal was over. That's when she met Leron, the only person who had ever defended her and treated her without prejudice.

Even when videos of Perse's sex tape spread all over the school, Leron didn't stop saying hi to her when he saw her. In her eyes he was like a male god, the only source of light in the darkness. She didn't expect anything to come out of liking him so when he messaged her first she was so happy. She was chatting with him all the time and they became close but at school, their interactions remained the same. Thinking it was meant to be a secret between them she didn't question it further. When she received a message from him she didn't hesitate to meet up with him and what happened next led to her death.

Circe couldn't help but sympathise with her. She was just too pitiful. Just when she was closer to her dreams her life was unjustly snatched from her.

Circe's body trembled with rage her desire to avenge her growing stronger. The darkness enveloped her and she was suddenly sucked into a vortex. Her own miserable ending flashed before her.

She saw the memory of her receiving flowers and a note from her secret admirer. For months this so-called secret admirer had been sending her gifts in an attempt to woo her. At first, she threw away the things sent to her but then the letters kept coming. The effort put in them was intriguing so she was amused. Who in their right mind would pursue someone like that in this day and age?

And just like Ci Ci she stupidly went to the agreed meet-up place with her intentions to reject that person. This stupid decision was what finally led to her downfall.

When she got to the ancient gazebo there was no one but the Vampire King lying sprawled on the ground with a dagger brimming with dark energy embedded in his chest. His once immaculate attire was now stained crimson with his own lifeblood.

With urgency, she knelt beside him and wrenched the dagger free, her eyes flashing with concern. Drawing upon the darkest recesses of her power, she attempted to weave a healing spell but the wound resisted her magic as if repelled by an unseen force. Panic gripped her as she realised the severity of his condition.

Desperate to save him she glanced around, her gaze falling upon her palm. With a swift, practised motion, she cut her palm and clenched her fist dripping blood into his mouth. But it didn't give the desired effect.

She bared her neck to the weakened vampire which looking back was the dumbest decision in her entire life. As his fangs pierced her tender skin, agony shot through her, threatening to consume her very being. But she endured.

As the vampire fed, a sense of dread fell on her when she felt his entire weight on her body. He began to convulse and before long, he lay motionless, his breaths shallow and erratic. That's when the guards walked in on her and she was chained.

Suddenly the scene changed and she was back in those flames. She felt the flames licking her skin, searing her flesh and bones. This time she was screaming in agony, but no one helped her. She was trapped in a magic circle and she knew she was going to die.

But then, something changed. She felt a cool breeze on her face, soothing her burns and sending a wave of relief through her body. The cool breeze retracted but Circe held on to it tightly. She had found this saving grace so how could she let it go? A deep voice called out in a whisper, "Circe."

The cool breeze embraced her taking the pain away and healing her wounds. She wasn't going to die anymore. She wasn't going to be burnt to ash anymore.
