'Do you believe me, Zoey?' Lee Han asked, attempting to communicate through their mental connection.
He knew Zoey could hear him.
When Lee Han saw Zoey keep silent while her eyes fixed on him, carrying doubts, he could only smile before continuing, 'I admit there's a spy among your team...'
Zoey's face darkened, shocked to hear Lee Han's words. Before she could say anything, his voice resounded again in her mind.
'But it's not me. If you believe me, I'll help you catch the spy. Now you decide. Your time is running thin, Zoey. Decide faster!'
Lee Han noticed Elara, who was now standing in front of him; she seemed to start to make a move. He could see her hand reaching for something from her space ring.
'Master, tell me your plan. So I can assist you.' Suddenly, Lara's cheerful voice rang in Lee Han's mind.
He didn't have time to respond to Lara because another voice resounded in his mind, 'Are you telling the truth!' Zoey's voice echoed in his mind, sounding cold and carrying distrust in her intonation.
'There's no reason for me to lie to you, Zoey! Remember why I came here and who sent me here.' Lee Han tried to convince Zoey by reminding her about Princess Seraphina.
He didn't have much choice now. The only way for him to stay alive in this place was to convince her. If he failed to keep this Young General on his side, his life would end at her hands.
'How do you own a smartwatch? When we captured you, you didn't have such a gadget or space ring to hide it. Did you perhaps conceal your power? That's why we only detected your rank as Copper, Level 3!?'
Zoey wanted to ask him many things. But the situation was getting tense, and she had not yet received any reply from Levy, which worried her.
Lee Han met Zoey's sharp and doubtful gaze. He chuckled before saying, 'Levy actually gave me this watch. He gave it to me after our meeting last night.'
Zoey was confused even more because Levy hadn't told her this, so she couldn't be sure if Lee Han was telling the truth.
'Master, I sense many more creatures heading to this place. And they're not just a dozen; they are a lot more than that,' Lara's warning made Lee Han feel rushed to convince Zoey.
'Damn, Zoey! We will all be in danger if you don't believe me now. I can feel powerful creatures heading towards this place. Your enemy must have sent troops to this place—'
'WHO!? Tell me the name!'
'This female mage before me, Elara!'
'Nonsense!' Zoey snapped, though her confused gaze lingered on Elara. 'No way Elara would betray me!'
Lee Han felt frustrated trying to convince Zoey.
'It's up to you to believe it, but she's Victor's person. If I had to guess... By now, Levy's team may be ambushed. But, if he heeds my warning before leaving the base camp, maybe he can survive.'
Zoey's face turned as white as paper hearing Lee Han's words. She was shocked beyond words. Just as she moved towards Elara, her eyes widened in shock when she saw Elara already in the move with incredible speed, disappearing from where she stood.
Elara appeared behind another mage, Lyra, with a sinister smile aimed at Zoey. Her hand swung around Lyra's neck.
It all happened so fast. Adventurers ranked lower than Elara; they couldn't see her movements. Only those at the Gold level and Lee Han knew what happened.
Slice!
Lyra's head was severed from her body, and she fell to the ground.
Instant silence enveloped them. Everyone was too shocked by what happened. But a few seconds later, gasps and curses filled the air, leaving everyone confused and scrambling for safety, realizing that the spy on their team was none other than Elara.
"Fuck!"
"Damn it!"
"What the hell happened!"
Many curses now echoed in the air as they all gripped their guns and weapons tightly, ready to attack Elara.
"Guys! Capture... Or kill Elara now!" Zoey shouted before she vanished from her position, attempting to kill Elara, but she was too late.
Elara appears behind Teddy, the weak Adventurer, who stands not far from Lee Han. She used him as her shield, her black dagger pressed against his neck.
"Zoey, you're moving like Sloths..." Elara hissed, her eyes narrowed as she assessed the situation. She could feel Teddy's body shaking.
A slight pity rose in Elara's heart, but she had no choice. She needed to buy time until her reinforcements arrived.
Elara's bloodshot eyes darted between Zoey and the surrounding area. She feels relieved when she spots John a few meters away. That man was the second most powerful person in this place after Zoey. With him far from her place, she felt secure.
"Elara, how could you betray me like this? You're my closest friend, my future team leader. Why?" Zoey halted a few steps from Elara.
"I'm so...sorry, Zoey. They've taken my family. This is the only way to help them..." Elara explained, her voice cracking as she tried to hold her fears and nervousness.
"You still have a chance to do the right thing Elara." Zoey pleaded. "I'll forgive you... and I promise I'll help you free your family."
"Don't be naive, Zoey. You don't understand Victor. You can't defeat him. You just can't!!" Elara spat, her anger boiling over. "Today, you'll all meet your death... He will send you all straight to the gate of hell."
Elara's frustration flared as she locked eyes with Zoey.
Just then, Zoey signaled John with a firm order.
'John, now!'
Instantly, John vanished from his position and reappeared behind Elara. Swiftly, he planted a small black device behind her, disrupting her invisible shield.
Elara's body shook slightly and instantly, the silver light surrounding her flickering like an electrical short circuit.
"Damn it, John!" Elara shouted, her hand moving fast.
Slice!
Teddy's head separated from his neck and fell to the ground.
John flinched in shock. How could Elara still be able to kill Teddy?
He swung his dagger to attack Elara, but before he could act, Elara's body disappeared before his eyes.
Elara reappears right before Zoey.
"Die!" Elara stabbed a black dagger into Zoey's heart.
BOOM!
A loud explosion resounded as they collided. An invisible force threw Zoey and Elara several meters away.
