Capítulo 1681: Chapter 1138: Professor (Part 1)_1

The office door was knocked. Schiller lifted his head from the desk, flipped through the appointment schedule next to him, and then said, "Come in!"

"Schiller! Schiller! You really must help me!" Gordon, covered in dust, rushed in immediately. He flicked the hem of his trench coat and said to Schiller, "Save Gotham! Professor Schiller! Especially, save your colleagues and me!"

Schiller casually flipped through the appointment record and then said, "Why didn't you call the appointment department in advance? I am fully booked today and can't have a long talk; Should I cancel my appointments first?"

Gordon furrowed his brows and waved his hand, saying, "No need, there's nothing much to discuss. All I hope is that you would agree to let Arkham Asylum admit those patients who need to be injected with the antidote. We really have no more beds left!"

Gordon pointed out of the window and said, "Gotham Central Hospital has less than 500 beds in total. It's completely full now. Wayne Hospital is larger with two branches and two in-patient departments, barely making up to 1000 beds, but they are all filled too!"

"Aren't there quite a few private hospitals in each district? If they don't admit patients, won't the Twelve Families have any opinion?" Schiller asked.

Gordon pursed his lips and shook his head, explaining helplessly, "Usually, Gothamites don't like to stay in hospitals, so all the private hospitals have been cutting beds. They are interest-oriented. If there's no profit, they won't invest, and nobody expected this medical resource crisis."

"Wayne Enterprises and several famous industrial groups in the city are busy with construction non-stop, but most of the frozen patients need at least three days of transfusion and four days of observation before they can be thawed and will not go crazy."

Gordon sighed deeply, "Due to the shortage of beds and nurses, many people don't get enough transfusion time, and the antidote didn't fully work. After thawing, they are still delirious and violent. That's why I hope to borrow Arkham Asylum, your nurses here are more professional."

Without waiting for Schiller's agreement, Gordon went over to the sofa and said to himself, "I talked to Victor and decided to shorten the transfusion cycle, and we will send patients who recover poorly or still have mental problems to Arkham Asylum."

"The occurrence of poor recovery is not rare, but in actuality, the probability is not high. Maybe we'll encounter one among twenty or thirty people. I think Arkham Asylum's capacity should suffice."

"Here we can provide them with sedatives, or short-term restraint treatment, and then, supplemental transfusion."

"After redirecting the patients, the bed shortage should be relieved. As long as we can hang on for a while, emergency medical facilities should be able to complete the construction. By then, we can consider the crisis over."

After Gordon finished speaking, he slumped tiredly on the chair, poured himself a drink, and drained it in one gulp with a satisfied sigh. Judging from how he looked, he must have spent the past few days tirelessly.

Schiller placed both his hands on the table, fingertips crossed, and looked at Gordon, "If you want to use the beds at Arkham Mental Hospital, I don't have any objection. I guess Brand wouldn't have objections either."

"But the problem is...the nurses here are probably not as experienced in nursing common patients as other nurses."

"What's most important is that the doctors here are all psychiatric doctors, who haven't prescribed drugs other than psychotropic ones for a long time. No one here can provide internal treatment or deal with serious injuries."

"I didn't really have high hopes anyway." Gordon shook his head, stood up and looked at Schiller saying, "We will select the patients. Those with serious injuries or other diseases will not be sent here, but will be treated in other hospitals."

"As for nurses, don't even think about professional ones, they are almost driven crazy by work. We can send over some nurse recruits who are decent at their jobs. They will only be responsible for injections. The rest of the care relies on your nurses here."

"I can vouch for that." Suddenly, a clear female voice sounded by the door. Pamela pushed the door open and said "Sorry, I saw the door was open, so I didn't knock."

"It's alright, come in quickly, it's your appointment time." Schiller pointed at the chair opposite the office desk and continued, "Chief Gordon is a friend of mine, our talk is almost finished, it won't hold us up."

Pamela's tone was always measured, and her expression unchanging. She shrugged nonchalantly. After sitting down, she turned to Chief Gordon and said,

"Selina complained to me that ever since she was drafted as a nurse, she hasn't been able to patrol Gotham at night for a long time. Even Bruce is starting to worry if she would become ill due to overwork. No one should have to work for 5 hours straight after a 12-hour workday."

Hearing the discontent in Pamela's tone, Gordon touched his nose and said, "It's a special situation right now. Selina is a good-hearted girl."

Pamela rolled her eyes and said, "Whoever can't dodge you is a good-hearted girl."

Schiller looked interestedly at Gordon. Gordon was even more awkward. He coughed dryly twice, and then said, "We are really short of nurses! I have to admit, young ladies are indeed more suitable for this kind of work. You have to understand me, I'm close to calling Barbara!"
