Capítulo 1186: Chapter 798: Deadly Joke (25)_1

After the high noon temperature subsided, Shiller and Bruce arrived at the emergency warehouse.

The work here was rather simple. The record-keeper was responsible for recording every item during unloading and tagging them. As a porter, Bruce's role was to move the goods from one place to another.

Their workplaces weren't exactly the same - Bruce spent most of his time outside, while Shiller was mostly indoors. Still, there were overlaps. When Bruce brought items in, he could see Shiller recording inventory near the shelves.

This helped take a load off Bruce's mind since he was genuinely concerned that Shiller might create too many opportunities outside of his sight.

All afternoon, Bruce worked diligently, confirming that Shiller was not up to any mischief, simply shuttling between the shelves, diligently recording all the goods.

For some reason, Bruce felt reassured. For five straight hours, Shiller had behaved normally. However, he soon realised his celebration to be premature.

By the time they finished work, it was almost dark. Bruce headed straight out of the warehouse. However, Shiller stopped him, saying, "Let's go collect our wages for the day."

Bruce asked, puzzled, "Wages? Weren't we already paid?"

Shiller replied, "Were we? Do you mean several decades of dollars? Come on, we worked for a full four hours. Do you think these wages correspond to our hard labor?"

Bruce had an inkling that something was amiss. So, he quickly followed Shiller, who led him through a maze of corners to the perimeter wall of the warehouse yard. To his surprise, the man who had recruited workers during the day was waiting there.

Shiller went over, looked around, and said to him, "I've moved the goods. Is the vehicle ready?"

"Don't worry." The recruiter gave an "OK" gesture, "The previous porter has been dealt with, the next stop is arranged, and the truck is parked outside. As we agreed, we'll split it 60-40…"

Shiller nodded without further ado, winked at Bruce and said, "Let's go. Time to load the truck."

While walking towards the truck, Bruce gritted his teeth and said, "So, you're here to steal goods…"

"Like I said, opportunities are meant for those who are prepared," said Shiller as he came up behind the worker who was about to get in the truck and put him in a chokehold.

In less than three seconds, before Bruce could even respond, Shiller had stuck the car key into the recruit's windpipe.

After releasing his grip and leaving the recruiter, Shiller got into the truck, started the engine, and told Bruce, "If you stay here, you will be the primary suspect when the body is found."

"You cold-blooded killer!" Bruce looked at Shiller with a deep breath. If Shiller's previous actions were barely tolerable, the act of taking a life in front of him was utterly unacceptable.

Shiller didn't even glance at him. He took out a pistol from his side, pointed it at Bruce and said, "Get in the car. Don't cause me trouble."

Eventually, Bruce got in the car. The drive was silent. But when they got out of the car, Shiller smiled at Bruce and said, "Let's go see our spoils for the day."

With an attitude as if nothing had happened, Bruce even suspected that Shiller had developed amnesia, forgetting the tense atmosphere between them just moments ago.

Shiller opened the truck door to reveal several boxes. It was the urgent supply of goods that had arrived today.

Most of it was frozen food. Shiller opened the boxes to reveal a substantial amount of frozen food that he had carefully chosen - not just seafood, but a full box of steak, which appeared to be high-quality imported beef.

"You can't keep doing this. I've warned you," Bruce said in a cold tone, standing behind him.

Slinging a box of beef over his shoulder, Shiller responded, "I'm hungry. Let's go back and have dinner," ignoring Bruce's words.

Back in the room, Shiller began to cook. As there were no vegetables among the frozen goods, he merely fried some steak and made a seafood soup. Despite being quite simple, it was still quite a lavish meal.

Shiller enjoyed the meal enormously, but Bruce didn't touch a single bite. He looked at Shiller and asked, "Don't you feel guilty? These things don't belong to you..."

Shiller slowly said while eating, "Bruce, let me ask you. Do you think the resources produced by society today are enough for everyone on Earth? Can the world's materials sustain the whole human race?"

After some pondering, Bruce nodded. Shiller speared a piece of steak, put it in his mouth, and continued, "I simply appropriate the proportion of resources I should get under a completely equitable distribution. What's wrong with that?"

Just as Bruce was about to speak, Shiller interjected, "Don't talk about the sanctity of private property to me. Did those who enacted this rule notify me? Did they consult my vote? If not, why should I abide by it?"
