Capítulo 4: The Lord’s Will

The 'name' given to me by the Lord was Miraak, meaning 'First Servant' in the language of the Lord.

The day when the Lord gave me my name was etched into my mind. When He first bestowed upon me 'Wisdom.' It was a day that I was sure to remember fondly, even in death.

It was upon our first encounter, when I was just an ignorant turtle that was even unaware of its creator, when the Lord reached out to me, bestowing me the name, 'Miraak.'

And then it was.

I became aware of 'Wisdom,' the understanding of existence, knowledge and language.

I had cheered like a little child in front of the Lord, barely holding back my crying.

Thus, the next day, the Lord appeared by again, entrusting me with the paradise called 'Test Site 12,' both my place of birth and the land created by Him. It was a paradise where the rich water enchanted by the Lord flows through, and the creations of the Lord thrived..

At the beginning, it was a simple landmass that the Lord occasionally moved his gaze to. But as time and time went by, day by day. It transformed into a wonderful paradise, molded by His hands.

The Lord smiled gently at me.

"You are their king, Miraak. Lead them or oppress them. In the end, only you can decide."

The Lord said, before He continued.

"What I ask of you is only two things:

First, make sure no harm comes to these animals.

Second, record their changes and report them to me.."

I was confused. The Lord's words were unknown to me, what was a king? Was it a type of food? No, it must be a title bestowed by the Lord, Deus. And so it must have importance to it.

"My Lord, a king is a status, yes?"

The Lord looked at me, but unfortunately, the divine glow blurred His face from me.

"Yeah. A king is someone who presides over their people, and people having one also signified that they were a collective, which has the power to change the world through culture, philosophy and ideas."

"A collective of people can be a tribe, country, kingdom, empire and much more."

As the Lord said so, I felt a warmth spread across on the top of my turtle shell.

It was the Lord's hand, gently patting me, as if I was His son.

In that moment, happiness washed over me and dispelled the confusion that had swept over me on what a 'king' meant.

The Lord entrusted me with this role, even if I didn't know what it was, it just meant I needed to simply learn the meaning of being a 'king' was.

That's all that mattered.

….

Deus sat on the side of the river that flowed through the prairie otherwise known as 'Test Site 12,' a fishing rod in his hand made out of horsetail tied end to end, and strengthened by silk he gathered with the help of the intelligent turtle, Miraak.

The days seemed shorter and shorter over time, the climate was warm and the sun shone brighter for him, since he had met his turtle friend.

"Lord Deus, I've rounded up the monkeys to your orders."

The voice of Miraak echoed in Deus's mind, thus he set aside the fishing rod, standing up and then waited patiently even though Miraak wasn't actually in front of him.

However, mysteriously, Miraak, the turtle, coincidentally appeared from the side and walked before him, repeating the same words he heard earlier with a few monkeys following behind.

When Deus woke up this morning, he had realized the Mystery within his body had qualitatively rearranged without him knowing.. It was a change similar to his first time connecting with the System, a change that locked him out of the other ways of realizing and expressing Mystery.

The real world was made out of invisible laws, some information perceivable or undetectable by the mind and of course, at its core laid Mystery—

While Miraak waited, Deus recalled the Mystery within his body through imagining it become a current, moving it through his body and redirecting it to his hand—

A single star lit up inside his hand, a star radiating brightfully and connecting to Miraak with an invisible string. Through this connection, Deus could hear, see and perceive everything the existence of Miraak provided.

That meant the thoughts in Miraak's head, the turtle's senses, his future actions and even information unknown to himself, were open to Deus via this star.

Deus raised an eyebrow at Miraak's thoughts, and finally couldn't suppress a laugh he hadn't felt in a long time. Having been alone with only animals for hundreds of years, the fact that there was someone he could laugh, talk and enjoy being with was gratifying. Even if it was a turtle.

"L-Lord Deus? Is everything alright?"

"Hahaha! You… You don't know how happy your existence makes me," Deus wiped an imaginary tear from the corners of his eye, heaving for air while holding his belly.. He was feeling a bit lonely these days.. And Miraak was like a ray of sunlight piercing through the suffocating darkness that was loneliness mixed with the insignificance everything was.

Miraak nodded, not one of understanding, but one of joy, since the Lord is happy because of him, then he couldn't be happier.

"Well then, Miraak. Thank you for bringing the monkeys here."

"It could be nothing but my pleasure."

Deus dispelled the star from his hand as he approached the monkeys that were watching him, which grimaced at him with a bit of fear, not knowing whether to let this dangerous entity approach them, but unable to run because the King, Miraak, had forced them here.

"Miraak, you will soon witness the birth of a race I originally was one of, humanity. I hope you can stay with me on their growth, and assist them, as you do to the animals living on this land if I were to disappear."

The words that came from Deus slightly shocked Miraak, and at the same time made him despair slightly, "W-Will you disappear soon, my lord?!"

With a headshake, Deus rejected the cry of Miraak.

"No, it's just a precaution if I take a slightly longer nap. You see, I've been getting more and more sleepy these days.. So I might go into a slumber soon, and I feel like it'll take hundreds of years for me to wake up."
