Capítulo 60: Chapter 60 Why am I even alive anymore?

[A few hours ago…]

Right after Jin Wei blocked all his senses to meditate, Kaiya woke up from her slumber. As she got up, she activated her ability to see her surroundings. She remembered being rescued by Jin Wei, but everything after that was a blur.

As she activated her ability, she noticed that she was inside a dark cave that was covered by a fountain. However, that wasn't the concerning part. What was concerning was that she found Jin Wei's body lying on the floor, covered in a large amount of star energy, and he wasn't even breathing for some unknown reason.

Initially panicked, Kaiya reasoned that Jin Wei might not be human, and this could be how he slept. To confirm, she poured some water from the fountain on him, but he didn't wake up. She then realized something was wrong.

As she touched his face to wipe the water away, she noticed that he had aged quite a bit. She instantly blamed herself for this, thinking something must have happened while she was unconscious. If only she had been conscious, this might not have happened, so in her eyes, this was her fault.

Using her ability to inspect him, Kaiya realized his organs were shutting down one by one, causing her to panic as if her soul had left her body.

But she didn't lose hope yet, as she could see some signs indicating he was still alive, even though he wasn't breathing or moving.

She spent hours trying various methods to save him without success

An hour later, Jin Wei lay on the floor, his armor having fallen off, reverting to its original black box state. Kaiya sat beside him, rubbing his hand with hers to generate heat, sobbing uncontrollably.

It had been around half an hour since Jin Wei's heart stopped beating. Even the bound item that was connected to his life had given up on him, but Kaiya refused to give up on him.

She kept trying various ways to heal Jin Wei. Even though all his symptoms indicated that he was dead, she couldn't accept this reality yet.

She still believed Jin Wei was alive, even though his heart had stopped beating, his internal organs had stopped working, and he wasn't breathing. Kaiya firmly believed that he was still alive, so she had been trying nonstop to bring him back to life.

Some might say she was stupid to try to bring someone back from death. In truth, she was in a sense, since she was nothing but a mere woman. But this time she had a reason to believe Jin Wei was still alive.

Even though none of his organs were working and he wasn't breathing, using her ability, she could tell Jin Wei still had some red light in him. Even though it was very small and getting smaller with each passing moment, it was proof enough for her to believe Jin Wei was still alive.

Seeing that warming his hands and legs failed, Kaiya resorted to CPR. She placed the heel of one hand on the center of Jin Wei's chest and pushed hard and fast with the other hand on top. When this failed, she attempted mouth-to-mouth resuscitation repeatedly until she was breathless.

She even attempted to feed him blood from the corpses Jin Wei had gathered, placing it on his lips and even attempting to transfer it mouth-to-mouth, but nothing revived him. Even though it had healed him before from the brink of death, now it wasn't working for some reason.

Despite her efforts, Kaiya watched as the light within Jin Wei dimmed with each passing moment.

"Damn it, Jin Wei, wake up… don't leave me… please don't leave me… I-I can't live without you… hick… hick…" Kaiya cried out, punching his chest with all her strength before sobbing on top of him.

After another five minutes passed, Kaiya gathered herself and resolved to try even harder to save him.

"As long as there's light in him… I won't give up…" Kaiya muttered with determination, wiping her tears away. She hesitantly activated her ability one last time to check his condition.

This time, however, as she activated her ability, she couldn't detect any light within him. She leaned closer, inspecting his body, but found no trace of light whatsoever. It was as if Jin Wei's body had become completely hollow, resembling a mere corpse.

And this time she finally lost all her hope. Now she could only accept the fact that Jin Wei was no more. He was dead, and she couldn't bring him back from death even if she wanted to.

She cried nonstop. After crying for who knows how long, no water was coming out of her eyes. She just sat there motionless, devoid of any emotion. Kaiya felt completely helpless and broken.

Her colorless life, which had finally been filled with color in the presence of Jin Wei, once again shattered into pieces. Her heart was filled with darkness again. She couldn't find meaning in her life anymore; everything seemed so meaningless.

'Why am I even alive anymore?' This was the question that had been in her head for a while now.
