"Miss Stephanie, Dr. Luke, there is a major discovery." A young scientist in a white coat exclaimed, pointing excitedly at the analysis map.
Stephanie and Dr. Luke, authorities in the Wayne Group's biotechnology research and development department, quickly approached. It had been three full days since they commenced the study of mutation drugs.
Recalling Stephanie's earlier proclamation, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of embarrassment. However, her relief grew as she confirmed that Jude had remained locked in the laboratory on the 37th floor.
After consulting Lucius, she was reassured that Jude hadn't left the lab. The entire team had worked diligently, and Stephanie couldn't fathom the idea of Jude single-handedly achieving success, which would render the Wayne Group's scientific research department obsolete.
"Miss Stephanie, Dr. Luke, please take a look at what we found in the mutation potion; it was hidden."
Stephanie scrutinized the discovery and exclaimed, "This is... a DNA polymerase capable of inducing mutations in human genes."
Dr. Luke, a man in his 60s, concurred, "Indeed, it is DNA polymerase."
"When the mutation potion enters the human body, this polymerase invades the human DNA chain, assimilates, and replicates the new mutation DNA, triggering genetic mutations throughout the entire body."
With Dr. Luke's confirmation, Stephanie became more certain. "So, if we reverse the internal structure of this polymerase using deoxyribonucleotides, base nucleotides, etc., to inhibit and eliminate its activity, we can terminate and reverse the genetic mutations, turning the affected individuals back to normal humans."
Excitement filled Dr. Luke's voice. "Yes, let's prepare the reagents immediately and test the protocol."
Two days later, when the door to the comprehensive laboratory on the 37th floor of the Wayne Building was knocked, Stephanie confidently stood with a large group of researchers.
As the door opened, a pungent alcohol odor wafted out, revealing an unexpected scene of empty wine bottles strewn across the floor.
"What the heck!"
Dr. Luke, a high-level intellectual, couldn't help but swear. Never had he seen someone drinking in such a high-precision laboratory, let alone being visibly intoxicated.
Jude took off his earphones, laid down the cutter, and turned around. To his surprise, a group of people stood behind him, looking at him in shock.
"You...you're still listening to music. This is a laboratory, not a bar or dance hall."
Jude, unfazed, replied, "Heh, it seems someone is scolding me."
Stephanie, trying to maintain composure, approached. "Mr. Herbert, it's time to reveal the results. My team and I have deciphered the secret behind the human body's mutation. Although it took five days, I believe I've won."
Jude, with a smirk, retorted, "Haha, let me think; you assume I've been stagnant in my research because I haven't left the laboratory. But it depends on the situation.
"Let's not talk too much. Prepare your invisible belt and shoes. They're mine."
Ignoring Stephanie's claim, Jude continued, "Drinking is my hobby. No matter what I do, I can't do anything without it. And by the way, you haven't produced results yet."
Stephanie determined to prove her success, brought forth a metal box containing a needle of reagent. Jude took a quick look, confirming their achievement in a matter of moments.
"It's quite impressive. You found the DNA polymerase responsible for gene mutation. If I'm not mistaken, you must have reversed the structure of this polymerase using deoxyribonucleotides and base nucleotide acid to achieve the reversal of gene mutations, right?"
Stephanie, despite her initial confidence, felt a tinge of discomfort. Meanwhile, Dr. Luke, now respectful, acknowledged Jude's genius.
Jude teased, "Stephanie, it seems your research has finally borne fruit."
Stephanie, eager to challenge Jude further, demanded, "Show us the antidote you created. If there's even a minor flaw, I win."
Jude, nonchalant, pointed to a shelf. "The antidote is there. Feel free to verify it."
As a white coat approached to retrieve the potion, Stephanie's excitement turned to dismay as it took two hours to confirm the results.
She exclaimed, "You're wrong, Herbert. It is a reversed approach; it can't reverse the effect at all."
Amused, Jude poured himself a drink.
"At this moment, are you still in the mood to drink? I said you made a mistake; did you hear that? As a scientist, you should understand what this kind of mistake means—that is, the death of a life."
"Or perhaps another genetic mutation!" Jude interrupted loudly.
"What?" Stephanie questioned, caught off guard.
"Stephanie, are you so sure that I am the one who is wrong, not you?"
