"She is pitiful," said Liana, resting in Benjamin's lap and feeling sympathetic for Selena.

Life was very cruel for some people.

Liana didn't have a good life herself. Her parents traded her and her sister for a few bags of rice, and they were raised in a brothel like goods, pieces of merchandise that would be sold once they were ripe. However, her suffering and her sister's suffering couldn't be compared to Selena's. Just like them, Selena was also sold by her parents in exchange for benefits, but she was sold to a monster who destroyed her, killed her unborn child, and wanted to milk her for every bit of benefit he could before she could die. 

That poor woman... She was deserving of every bit of pity Liana was feeling for her.
