When she awoke from her nap, Snowball had curled up beside her chest, using her arm as a pillow. His white fur shone like silver, his silken fur glittering in the dim light of the room. It was almost as if he glowed.

Her eyes lingered on her sleeping baby for several seconds before finally leaving her fluffy kitten and falling upon Octavian and her darling Lyov.

The former was playing chess against her latter.

Or...chess-like game, at least. She hadn't bothered learning the specific rules and names for them just yet.

She'd barely understood chess in her own world, figuring out this world's version of it was a step beyond what she was particularly ready for.

Maybe some time in the future she could bother to learn them.

Maybe.

Lyov shook his head as Octavian took one of his pieces, smiling wryly at the Pristani Prince. "How ruthless." He commented dryly, making no move to take the piece in retaliation.
