She woke up to see herself insdie a coffin. A brown wooded coffin. it was open. She could see a cemented celling up above.
The room was bright. There was no sign of the sun.
She quickly stood up from the coffin, panting as tho waking up from a nightmare. She was in a huge spaced empty room which had huge windows at the left direction.bared with iron rods.
Beside her coffin were three other coffins and two of them were open.
She came out from hers, staring at the coffins with a worried countenance on her face.
She was dresssed in a faded ashes gown. She had no wears on her feet.
Two coffins were open and there was no one inside.
Two of her brothers were missing. How could this have happened.she tought.this was bad news.
The last coffin was closed.
They must be some one inside.
Nicole had put her brothers into a deep sleep.
After turning them into a creature of dark magic. It was the only way she could preserve and protect them after their mother was killed in the 19th century.
A lot of time must have passed by, this she knew.
She quickly hurried over to the last coffin and opened it. Inside the coffin was west. Her junior brother. The last child of their family.
He was still sleeping peacefully.
Centuries must have passed now.she closed the coffin and stood up.
The ground was cemented.
It was a brick building. This was their family mansion.
Nicole walked toward the window. Slowly observing the outside world in front of her.
There were no curtains, so she could see. Tall buildings. Higher than anything she'd seen.
There were everywhere. This was mecury lines. The city the hunters had built. It had changed.
The landscape,the buildings.
There were vechiles everywhere. Bright lights too.
She stood there dumbfolded.
What century was this? How much time had passsed now?
This were all questions that were going on in her mind.
She looked back at the coffins. Her brothers were missing. Austin and clever.
This was bad news. They needed to be found before they fell into the wrong hands. With this much change In the city. She doubted if any where was safe. Especially since they were no longer humans. Nicole began to hurry toward the exit door at the right end of the room. She needed answers now more than ever.
The current mayor of mecury lines, stephan gland had died. He was assasinated by a group of gun men while giving a presentation in a meeting at their family company. GLAND.
it was their brand and family name.
Their family basically owned the city.
They created it and it was under their mangement and control. It was two months ago. Septemeber 7th.2004.
Outside the building.
Reporters had come to questiom him about the current step that was being taken by the mecury line police to protect the people from unsolved deaths in the city.
Over the centuries. More supernatural entities and ocultic persons had lived in the city. Posioning it from day to day.
Even tho the gland family and their elite group of hunters had taken a quick and swift action in taking out witches, wizards, druids, vampires, wolves, hybrids and even war lords who lived in the city. Even the development and new religions introduced into civilization couldnt help cure the disease which had crept into the city.
For their followers still crept around in dark corners.
Magic was still rampant. Sacrifice of human beings. Slaughter. Possesion by spirits. Dark precence. Unexplained but real. This was the gland family word for the evil that lurked in the shadows. The innocent people of the city faced more problems and there was no running from evil when it attacked.
On the other hand were the mobs, gangs and mafia organisations which plauged the town. The rate of crime and death was extremely becoming high.
There was a cold war going on and the gland family was the prime target in the city which they owned.
Enemies from every corner. The mecury line police department. The detectives and military fought against the criminal groups. This caused havoc. While the gland family made moves to clear the city of the infectious seeds of magic. Dark magic.
His body was to be buried in the gland family graveyard and almost half the population of the city would be attending. He was an important figure.
There were guest from their home country too.
Palestine.
It was located at the east region.a country of its own.
Mr and mrs jacobs lived in west avenue. They owned a bungalow. A lovely neighbourhood, but then it was also contaminated by dark magic.
"Honey, am off to work now." Said mr jacob.
He was dressed in a suit and tie. His briefcase was on the dinning table where he was having breakfast.
"Okay honey." His wife, sarah replied from the rooms upstairs.
The time on the living room said 8:35am. His mouth was filled with bread. He could be seen picking a glass cup filled with water.
He drinks it and put it back on the table.
Mr flin licks his teeth with his tounge before standing up.
The dinning chair shifts back and one of the room door upstairs opened. His wife came out with a cloth in her hand.
"Am already late, ill see you later."
Mr flin said and took his brief case before walking away from the dinning table. Before his wife got down from the stairs, he was already out through the front door. It shut behind him.
Mrs sarah was at the dinning table.
Clearing the plates her husband had used in eating.
They were both newly weeded couple and still young.
Mr flin jacobs was a banker while she was a full house wife. They have yet to recive any baby. The sound of her husband car engine came on and she heard as he drove away on the road.
She was left alone. Again.
Mr flin was a busy man.
He often came home at night. Precisely 8pm.
She stayed home doing lundary, cleaning and cooking. The neigbourhood was huge. They were other families around.
Her neigbours. Other mens wives who stayed at home. They had children and she watched as the bus came each morning to pick them up to school.
Her husband had brought the bungalow. They were new in the negibourhood. Her husband had been transferred to mecury lines a year ago. So they had to pack up from silver. Another city close to mecury lines.
She was in the kitchen doing the ditches when her phone began to vibrate in her pocket.
She quickly brought it out from her pocket to see a mesaage from her mom. Mariam.
"How you holding up dear?
She smiled upon seeing it. Her mother was a single mom and she was the only child.
"Am good mom, how about you?
She texted back after cleaning her hand with a hand towel.
"Am at work dear." Another text came in.
"I'll be visiting soon."
Sarah countenance brightened. Her mother had not visited since their marriage in silver.
It was good news for her. It had been a year since she left home.
"Ill be waiting mom, thank you."
She kept the phone back in her pocket, beaming with smile.
She was staring out through the kitchen window. At the next house.
It was a three story building.an upstairs building and they appeared to be a party going on.
She could hear teenagers screaming and running around.
Loud music playing through speakers.
This was an eventful morning. She'd tought. She didn't have any friends.
Her neigbours had come to wellcome them upon their arrival and that was it.
She was not the social type and she preffered staying at home till her husband came up with something for her to do.
Her mother checked up on her daily. That was it. Last Christmas, her husband and herself had travelled to silver. To his parents house.
There, she met his parents and his brother's.
She'd spent the whole of december with their family.
Her mother was out of the picture. Seeing her message today was truly a good news to her.
She went to the living room and setteled on the long couch.
She picked up the remote control from the glass table and turned on the tv.
The news of the present mayors death was being brodcasted and he was being put to rest today.
Today was an important day for the gland family anf almost all the important people in the city woulbe attending. Luckily for her,she would be staying at home.
The sound of the music booming from the speakers disturbed the silence that graced the neighbourhood.
She sighed and relaxed on the couch. It was boring at her house.
She had yet to have breakfast this morning. She contemplated on calling her friends on Skype but decided against it.
They would be busy with their own lives.
Suddenly the power in the house went out. The tv and other eletrical appliances went off. She looked around with a dissatisfied look on her face.
She noticed that the neigbours house was still lively with music.
The people inside appeared to be having fun. The power had gone out in her house alone. This was not the first time it had happened. A cool breeze was moved around and her curtains were flying with the wind current.
She brought out her phone and dailed one of the eletrical company which was in the city.
"Hello, this is the mecury lines power station, how may we be of service to you?
"Well the power in my house just went out,I'll like it to be fixed please."
"Am sorry but we are experiencing a shortage pf eletrical supply."said the female voice.
"It will come back on in a few minute time."
"Please bear with us."
She had yet to speak up when the line went off.
"Godamit." She cursed.
"I cant believe this is happening."
She looked out through the kitchen window at the next building and began to wonder why theirs didn't go out too.
She would have to listen to their merry making all day. She was kind of annoyed that they were disturbing her peace but what could she do.
Sarah shook her head in disbelief and stood up from the couch with her phone in hand.
If she had her way, she would have gone grocery shopping but she'd already done that last week.
She walked toward the dinner table and settled down on one of the chairs.
She'd prepared pancakes, fried eggs and oat meal in the early hours of the morning before her husband had woke n up.
He didn't eat much. The left overs were covered in the dinner table. She settled down to eat after dropping her phone on the table.
Sarah was beginning to eat when she noticed the wind increasing. A storm was on its way.
She sat there, watching her curtains going up and down in the living room.
The wind seemed to affect the roof of the building. She could hear noise coming from that direction.
She made to stand up but the wind began to push the wooden chairs of the dinner table from their usual position. It caressed her face as it came into the house. That was when she noticed the unusual sound of carving on the table. She sat there, wide eyed with fear. Slut.
The word was carved on thr table. She was horrified to see it.
She immediately stood up from the table and retreated back into the kitchen.
The wind was moving around the kitchen too.
She noticed that it disturbed things in the kitchen, for everything was shaking. At the left direction where a wall was located, she saw the carving on it again. Slut.
It was written again. Suddenly the carved word on the wall was stained with blood.
Her mouth opened but she quickly covered it with both hands.
The music was still playing and the wind still moving around. She began to shift backwards while still staring at the wall. One of the steel knives in the kitchen stood up by itself, among the other set of knives and it turned toward her direction. Before she could make any move. It flew straight toward her and stabbed her throat.
Sarah began gasping for air as blood oozed out from her neck. She collapsed on the floor. Dead.
Nicole was outside their family mansion. She was still in same clothing. Only she had worn a slippers on her feet.
Their building was quite the same but fairly old, compared to the new buildings around. No doubt a lot of time had passed. Everything had changed. A lot of thoughts was going through her mind. Especially that of her brothers. Were could they be?how come had they awoken before her.
She was the only one who knew how to undo the sleeping spell and this she planned to do by herself when she woke up.
Now, they were missing. This was the hand work of another witch or wizard. Anyone with magic who had access to their house which was equally spelled.
Their enemies were at work. She wasted no time in casting a locating spell on her brothers. She had a map of the city in her hand and she was already tracing them.
This was done through her blood. She could see their location on the map.
They were not far away from here.
They were cars moving on the road. The buidlings at each side of the street was functioning. People could seen inside, going about their business and the sun was out already. This was bad beacuse without an enchanted ring created by her, they would burn upon contact with the sun.
Everything in the city had changed. This was the 21 century.
It was the month of January. She'd asked a stranger on the road.
A boy riding a bike. She'd traced them to a huge building. Painted white. Having two huge pillars and a big cross at the top.
The door appeared to be open.
She wasted no time in climbing up the stairs.
Nicole could sense a powerful wave of dark magic coming from the building.
Inside was dark. The windows were closed.there was no way the sun could get in.
They were wooden chairs arranged from the beginning to end. In three different line. at the end was a pulpit.an altar and there was a statue of a man nailed to a cross and a crown made of thorn on his head. She knew this man. The missionaries preached about him then when she was little.
Known to be the saviour of world and dying for the sins of men.
This was a church. A place of worship to the one true God, speaked about by them.
She never did believe in him. Same with her mother.
They were considered unbelivers by the people of the city.
As such, they were hunted, trailed and killed by the hunters in the city.
What where her brother's doing here?
With the little light in the buidling, she could see the map and it clearly showed her standing on the right location.
At the left end of the buidling was another door. She could feel a force of dark presence coming from this building and it was drawing her like a magnet toward the door.
She was sure she could find her brothers down there.
This was no ordnary place of worship. There was something more going on down there and she was going to find out. It was a brick building.
She could see chandelier lights on the celling.
They appeared to be no eletricty in the building.
She walked toward the door.
It was a metal door. She raised her right hand to open the door but then it opened by itself and a stair way leading downwards presented itself before her.
They were old wooden sticks which were lit with fire on each side of the wall of the stairs as it led downwards.
She could smell it now. A foul stench. Rotten.a smell of suphur.
It was clear that this place was polluted.
She continued down the stairs until she came to the end and there was an extra wide space down here. Filled with candles which were lit.
They were arranged in circles. In a straight line. She was not alone, for there were people in black garments. They stood at the top this space which appeared to be above ground level.
She was standing in their middle.
Upon her arrival, the candles flames increased and she could see her surrounding very well now.
Her face turned into a grimance.
This was a coven and these were no orndary people. A symbol was at the wall on the far end. Straight ahead.
The a alphabet. It was lit in flames. The people at the top appeared to be seated.
"Wellcome nicole."
"Of the kendrick family."
"We have been expecting you."
"Where are my brothers? She asked.
"You'll see them but first we have business with you."
"Depending on how you co operate, you will all leave here alive."
The female voice said.
Nicole stared at them. Knowing exactly who they were. After all, she was one of them.
They knew who she was too.
But what she didnt know was what they wanted with her and her brothers who had newly awoken in this century.
