Jack crossed the portal while holding a Goa'uld bound hand and foot, alongside Carter.
"You should have cooperated. Trying to escape was punishable by death. You were warned," said Jack. This Goa'uld was one of those captured on Apophis' ships. The NID had kept them prisoners, but this one tried to escape and was no longer useful, so they would now use Thor's Hammer to turn it into proteins.
The Goa'uld shuddered as the Asgard monument scanner focused on him upon reaching Cimmeria. Jack, Daniel, and Carter stuck to him to be dragged together, ensuring the Goa'uld faced its trial and didn't just scratch itself in the maze…
"This isn't the maze," said Daniel.
"No, it isn't," said a calm voice from the darkness.
Jack almost thought the judgment lunatics who had sent them to Linea's prison had captured them again for questioning, but that voice filled him with relief. They weren't in a life-or-death situation, or so he believed. It was better to start talking and not appear like common thieves.
"Mr. Thor, first of all, let us introduce ourselves," said Jack, pushing Daniel forward. "You're talking to Thor, the guy who protects Cimmeria. Introduce us carefully," Jack explained to his ear. Daniel sighed in relief; it seemed like he also thought they had been captured again by the judgment lunatics.
"Wel… Good morning, Mr. Thor. My name is Daniel Jackson, and we are Earth explorers…" Daniel gave the usual speech and then told the tragic story of their friends possessed by Goa'ulds and how they had come across their technology, which they now used to free hosts from Goa'uld symbiotes. When Daniel finished, the three looked around because Thor hadn't responded or said anything. The Goa'uld that had accompanied them before was also gone.
When Jack began to fear for his skin in the hands of the judgment lunatics, the light came on, and they saw they were in a room with ancient features, and in front of them was a hologram of Thor.
"I am Thor, Supreme Commander of the Asgard fleet," Thor introduced himself. "This is my true appearance," he said when Daniel and Carter looked him up and down suspiciously. Jack nudged them to stop fooling around and offered a smile to Thor.
"Hello," said Jack, discreetly shaking Daniel to continue with the introduction protocol they had established for a long time, in case the Asgard caught them using their technology without permission.
"Of course, it was to be expected. Please excuse our rudeness," apologized Daniel. "If we have committed any crime, we are willing to make amends, but we found ourselves in need, and our options were scarce," explained Daniel. "Still, we have tried not to interfere on this planet and avoid bothering its citizens," he added.
"That's fine," said Thor. "It has also been clever to use the artifact to free your friends from the symbiotes. We have nothing against it, as long as it does not disrupt the peace on this planet," Thor said. "Did you say you were from Earth?" he asked, looking at them. Daniel nodded. "All of you?" Thor asked, and Daniel and Carter looked at him. Jack felt like crying.
"With friends like you, no one needs enemies," said Jack. "I was born and raised on Earth; my parents were human, and so were my grandparents," said Jack. It seemed that Thor was more cautious than he thought and had already thoroughly scanned them. He must have seen the ancient genes and their useless divine cells.
"You seem to know your origin," Thor said with interest, and Carter and Daniel's eyes widened at what that implied. Jack wondered if Thor had a lie detector, but in the end, he decided not to risk it and just tell the truth.
"I know we weren't the first humans to live on Earth, but I barely have one or two of your genes. Some humans on Earth have them too," explained Jack, trying to make Carter and Daniel stop seeing him as an extraterrestrial.
"That's something the Asgard Council has recorded, but it seems your genes have a special effect on you," said Thor. He definitely saw his divine cells. Jack noticed Carter biting her tongue to refrain from answering that question, and he hurried to speak before falling into the hands of Loki, who had wired Asgard communications and would likely come after him.
"That's a private and personal matter. I also ask that you please erase the scans you made of me and destroy any tissue samples, along with any trace of this conversation from your ship. If you haven't taken samples, please excuse my accusation, but it's for my safety and that of my planet," explained Jack. The last thing Earth needed was Loki causing havoc. Thor seemed surprised, and Daniel and Carter looked scared.
"Didn't you say before that the Asgard could protect us?" Daniel muttered.
"Daniel, I think he can hear you even if you whisper," scolded Jack.
"If he can hear us, why are you whispering?" Daniel asked in another whisper.
"I don't know. I'm very nervous. You whisper, and I automatically whisper in response," Jack said in another whisper.
"I can hear you clearly," Thor contributed. Jack and Daniel grimaced, and Carter showed a small uncomfortable smile. Jack remembered that Thor was half-troll. "Colonel Jack O'Neill, you don't need to fear for your safety. The Asgard would never harm any peaceful species. We are protectors and defenders of all, except the Goa'uld," explained Thor. It seemed he had no intentions of erasing anything.
Jack frowned. There was no way he could allow him to take that data. It would be a disaster for his plans. Jack cursed himself for coming to Cimmeria. He should wait to talk later with the Asgard…
This troll appeared out of nowhere; I didn't seek him out, Jack thought angrily.
"It seems you don't believe in my word," Thor said, and his tone sounded somewhat offended.
"Loki will come for me if you don't erase that data," Jack said. Thor's eyes widened, stunned for several seconds.
"Who is Loki?" Carter asked in a whisper.
"A Nordic god, like Thor. He's considered the origin of all deceit and was Odin's brother until he killed Balder and was bound to a rock for eternity," explained Daniel in another whisper.
"You know, I'm fighting for my life here," reprimanded Jack. Thor finally blinked.
"How do you know about Loki?" he asked.
"That's not important. What matters is that he'll come for me if you don't erase that data," Jack insisted.
"This data will be safeguarded. Only the highest members of the Asgard Council will have the right to access it, and Loki is not among them," explained Thor. Jack rolled his eyes.
"If that data goes, I'm dead. There are no other possibilities! So, give me some help here," Jack said to Daniel and Carter.
"And Earth?" Daniel asked with apprehension. Jack looked at him incredulously.
"Daniel, Earth might be fine!" Jack said through gritted teeth.
"I'm sorry; I was worried about Share," Daniel apologized uncomfortably.
"Commander Thor, please, Jack doesn't make mistakes in matters like these, and I believe he's right about this. If you don't erase that data, he will die," explained Daniel.
"Maybe this sounds illogical, but what we're saying is the truth, and we have proven it on many occasions. If you insist on keeping that data, it will be murder," argued Carter, and Jack could see that Thor tensed.
"Fine, I'll do it," said Thor. Jack felt as if the guillotine had been lifted from his neck and let out a great sigh of relief.
"Thank you," said Jack sincerely. "Damn, I've been close to dying twice. Meeting advanced species is very dangerous," Jack thought to himself.
"I would like to visit your planet, but I suppose you wouldn't want that either," Thor said.
"Sooner or later, we'll meet again," said Jack. He already knew that Thor wanted to go to Earth for him and those like him, to see if there was any progress in finding a cure for their condition. However, he knew there was nothing on Earth like what Thor believed. Still, he also knew that despite that, Thor would include Earth on the list of protected planets. As Thor said, the Asgard were protectors of all. Jack thought about helping them, but for now, it was better to stay away from them, just a little longer.
"Then, we'll see you later," said Thor.
"Wait, why did you bring us here in the first place?" Daniel asked.
"Thor's Hammer has been activated several times, and we thought there was a Goa'uld invasion on this world, but upon coming here, we found nothing, so we set alarms and waited," explained Thor.
"Ah, we're so sorry; we didn't mean to disturb," apologized Daniel.
"Apologies," said Jack, knowing how busy Thor was with the war against the Replicators.
"This is just a holographic projection; I am still in my own galaxy," explained Thor, and with a flash, they were in front of the portal, and next to it was the man who had been a Goa'uld host and now seemed to be free of it, as he didn't attack them.
Jack wiped the non-existent sweat from his forehead. His life had been in danger for the second time.
"It's becoming very difficult to survive in this galaxy," Jack complained. Daniel and Carter looked at him accusingly for hiding information, but he ignored them.
…
The next mission In the story he remembered didn't take place because Jack identified the threat when he saw it. It was a sphere, like a volleyball, that Carter wanted to take because it emitted some kind of energy. Jack ordered her to leave it, she obeyed, and they avoided being impaled in the portal room. It was the easiest thing to do, even though he didn't remember much, just the sphere, but that was enough to escape unharmed.
…
The next one wasn't so lucky. They arrived in a large city that seemed advanced, and where people disappeared from the map. Jack walked on a huge walkway, finding a pile of excrement all the way, and while sharing serious opinions with his team about to whom such a "monument" belonged, a bug passed in front of him, and when he saw it again, it was stuck to Teal'c's back.
Jack's smile disappeared instantly; he pulled out his gun and shot as quickly as he could, but the damn bug still stung Teal'c, leading him to spend a week in the infirmary. Fortunately for Teal'c, the NID was under control, and Jack convinced the doctor to cure Teal'c in exchange for the insect. The bug carried a powerful retrovirus, and geneticists were eager to study it.
…
Shortly after that, an SG team reported finding a planet where trinium flowed in the rivers, which excited the Prometheus Project team a lot. However, Jack knew that this planet was dangerous. He knew that in the future, that team would disappear and encounter a tribe of tree-huggers who wouldn't allow them to extract anything and were backed by very authoritarian extraterrestrials.
Jack told them not to touch the planet and to talk to the inhabitants because it was very strange that such a rich planet was abandoned by the Goa'uld. Soon, they encountered the natives, who spoke of their gods supposedly protecting them from all evil, and other nonsense that led Jack to have a conversation with a wolf.
"Are you sure it's your god?" Jack asked the elderly Native American dressed like an Apache. The old man nodded. Jack nudged Daniel and told him to deliver his opening speech, but Daniel refused to speak to a wild animal. Jack sighed.
"Good day, lord deity. We are visitors from Earth, a distant planet and the origin of the humans you protect. Our world is in crisis due to the Goa'uld threat looming over us. Currently, we are exploring other worlds in search of technology, allied species, or human populations willing to help us in our struggle.
"We understand that your protected ones wish to live in peace and not get involved. We respect that and won't force anyone to help us. What interests us on this planet is trinium, which apparently abounds here and is urgently needed. However, your protected ones have informed us that digging in the earth to obtain it is forbidden, and we lack the technology to extract it without causing harm to the environment.
"I know it's bold, but if it's of no use to you, could you use your ultramegacosmic powers to grant us around a thousand tons or maybe three thousand… Well, we actually need more than that, but that would be enough to meet all our needs in this war," Jack asked brazenly.
"Jack!" Daniel exclaimed, realizing that even the wolf he was talking to was left stunned.
"It seems that's a reaction only a person would have to one of O'Neill's jokes," Teal'c said, looking at the dog suspiciously. Carter also looked alarmed.
The wolf realized his slip, but it was too late, and after giving them a threatening growl, he wagged his tail against the ground.
"Human, you are very bold," reprimanded the wolf, leaving his entire team with wide-open eyes. Jack didn't flinch and looked at the old man, then sighed.
"Billions on my planet might die if we don't get that metal. We don't have gods to defend us," said Jack, appearing defeated.
"The Goa'uld are a relentless enemy. If we are not prepared to defend ourselves, Earth's inhabitants will be enslaved," contributed Teal'c.
"We are all humans; we must stand united," added Daniel.
"Surely, for your god, it wouldn't be too much effort to help us," said Carter. The old man looked at his god with pleading eyes and begged for some help. The wolf wagged his tail.
"How much could you extract with your current technology?" the wolf grumbled reluctantly.
"We are very poor in technology. About five tons would be the maximum we could extract per month, and that's only if we push ourselves to the limit, bringing in thousands of workers and many machines. That was the initial plan, but your protected ones informed us that they disagreed, so we stepped back.
"It is not granted to you, now leave," said the wolf. Jack made a face but sighed and left without further ado.
"Sir, without that metal, we'll be forced to use steel on the Prometheus," said Carter.
"Carter, we're beggars here, we have no right to demand anything," said Jack, and Carter seemed resigned and followed him. Daniel, being a pacifist, greeted the wolf, apologized for his previous behavior, then bid farewell to the old man and also left.
…
Ten days later, the portal activated, and a rock fell with a written message, indicating that they should collect five tons of trinium every month. This trinium would be stored in front of the portal, and the gods didn't want to see them poking their heads into the villages ever again. Like any beggar receiving something, everyone was happy. Politicians weren't bothered by their begging position and even sent offerings to these benevolent gods. Everyone knew they were advanced extraterrestrials, but no one cared; they just wanted the trinium.
…
A month later, they encountered another planet inhabited by indigenous people wearing straw loincloths or something similar. These natives had a very advanced object called the touchstone. Carter studied it carefully but couldn't figure out how it worked and gave up since they couldn't take it with them. Jack knew that in the original history, the artifact was stolen, but now nothing happened because the NID was under control, and Kinsey was neck-deep in trouble, his political career ruined, and his sponsors accused of treason.
NA: Hello, everyone, as you may have noticed, I'm uploading the chapters of this fic very quickly, and that's because this saga is already in its fourth universe, and I want to advance to that point. You may have also noticed that the style is rushed, and I summarize many things. That's also because it's a saga. If you want to see a more detailed Stargate fic, I'm uploading Stargate Korr, which will cover the entire Stargate story.
NA 2: After Stargate Xion, I will upload ATG Xion, and then Star Wars Xion, which is where I am now. Star Wars is different from the first three because I was writing a Star Wars fic at that time and decided to join it with the Xion saga. So, it doesn't skip or summarize anything, covering the three prequels and the Clone Wars. It's a fic similar to Stargate Korr in the length of chapters.
NA 3: Because I'm translating in a hurry, you will notice some details regarding the style, syntax, and grammar of the text. It's not a translation error; I don't have time to edit and correct because that time is spent correcting the chapters of Stargate Korr and A Song of Ice and Fire. If I took the time to correct these fics, I wouldn't be able to upload them daily, sorry.
