Capítulo 17: POOR MISS AMELIA

Laleen shouldn't have been caught off guard by how things unfolded. Surprisingly, she found herself more surprised than she thought she would be, given Amelia's attitude.

To think she had considered Shane a possibility. An overwhelming sense of deep apology filled her, and she just stared quietly as the drama unfolded.

A certain thought surfaced in her mind out of nowhere. He had made her stumble in the same way she had stumbled, and in a worse way.

Her heart swelled with an unknown emotion. She should make sure to apologize and thank him as well.

"Miss Olive?" Shane urged, and Amelia jolted. Still shocked at his accusatory remark of her having a fetish, she could hear the annoyance in his voice and she blinked repeatedly in fear.

Her lips quivered as her eyes darted left and right in a panic. What should she say?

By chance, her eyes fell on Laleen, who was safely behind Mr. Degavon, who now looked nothing less than a grim reaper to her.

Why was he protecting her instead of herself? A lowly waitress! She only played a prank or two to assert her dominance over the lowly being.

With a sudden burst of idiotic courage, she sputtered out, "It wasn't intentional. Besides, it shouldn't matter much. Am I right, waitress?"

Her last question was directed towards Laleen who couldn't help freezing from her statement. But it wasn't due to fear or intimidation. She would rather choose to kiss a monkey than allowing herself to cower in front of such a despicable woman.

"What do you mean it shouldn't matter? Do you also have a fetish for shivering in the cold?" she found herself asking in an innocent voice.

Amelia's face turned deep red in embarrassment. "How dare you?!" she bellowed.

Laleen's reaction was to pull her head back a bit, batting her lashes at Amelia with a pure and harmless look, causing her blood to boil vigorously.

But Amelia made a mistake. She momentarily forgot who exactly stood in front of her. Then again, not many people knew much about the enigma known as Shane Degavon.

Nothing to let the dreamers know just how baffling he could be.

"You slut. You always desired him, didn't you? I noticed your gaze when we walked inside. And falling into his lap? You truly are a whore!"

She continued her barrage of insults, but for Laleen who had been called many things in her past identity as a "blessed" princess, her words didn't even sting.

She only responded by yawning. God, she was tired. It was unprofessional of her. There was a chance she might loose her job for her behavior if the woman complained. But Laleen had past caring. Not after all this woman had done to her today. She was no saint.

As Amelia continued to run her mouth, her eyes blazed with anger, temporarily forgetting about Shane. How wrong of her.

She should have paid attention. And because she didn't…

The chilly sensation of cold water came pouring down on Amelia cutting off the words she had on her lips. It slowly soaked through her hair and trickled into her clothes.

Her lips twisted in dismay as the icy cold enveloped her and she looked up to find the much-expected perpetrator.

Shane continued to pour the water until every last drop was spent on cooling Miss Olive's hot and silly head.

Only then did he let the bottle drop to the floor. With a benevolent expression, he asked kindly, "Do you feel better now?"

He was almost cut short by a very heartfelt laughter coming from behind him. Looking over his shoulder was Laleen, laughing, just like he remembered. He frowned as he stared at her. Wasn't she cold?

Laleen couldn't hold in her laughter, and unlike the previous time, she made no such effort.

Her shoulders quaked as she covered her mouth with her hands, laughing as she stared at the now wet Amelia.

Amelia was even wetter than she was. She stared wide-eyed at both of them, her soaked hair dripping to the floor.

Tears gathered in her eyes as she sharply turned towards Shane. "You monster," she cried out in horror, all traces of fear blurring in the overwhelming sense of humiliation she felt.

Shane clicked his tongue as though in regret. As if to cheer her up, he encouraged, "Don't be mad, fish. It was unintentional".

Laleen could only chuckle at his words. The same words Amelia had used a few minutes ago!

Amelia's eyes widened in their sockets. Slowly, tears trickled down Amelia's eyes, and to their greatest surprise, she began to wail like a child.

Laleen's lips curved into a small 'O,' while Shane stared blankly at her. Annoyance flashed in his eyes, and the irritation building up within him bubbled threateningly.

Out of nowhere, men in black trooped into the empty cafe and stopped right at Mr. Degavon's side.

Shane had resumed his signature look of blankness. He gave them a lazy look, and they all nodded as they bowed respectfully.

All of a sudden, two of the men grabbed either side of Amelia's arm and started to pull her out of the cafe.

She started to scream as the mascara she had applied stained her face black due to her crying.

"Where are you taking me? Don't touch me!" She screamed, but the men remained unfazed. It happened way too suddenly and all Laleen could wonder about was how he had signaled for them.

She didn't see him call for them, so how?

Amelia's screaming as she now pointed at her was enough to steal back her attention.

"I…I see what's going on," she muttered in understanding as her eyes flickered between Laleen and Shane, her teeth chattering slightly from the cold.

"You are his mistress, aren't you?" She pointed accusingly at Laleen.

Laleen's eyes widened at the accusation. She…is his what? She almost wanted to laugh. She didn't know this man at all.

She responded by smiling widely at her words. This felt like a confirmation to her words and anger seethed through Amelia's veins as she struggled like a madwoman in the grip of the two men that held her.

Why did they pause in taking her away? Laleen wondered to herself.

The woman had caused enough trouble for the day. Not to mention she was still shivering. She needed to change her clothes and go home.

The other man, who wasn't gripping Amelia, proceeded to pick up her belongings sprawled across the table.

When he got to her coat, Shane suddenly said, "Throw that away."

The man coughed as his head swiveled in his boss's direction.

"Heh?"

"Are your ears not working anymore? I said throw the coat away. Make sure she doesn't get to even touch it ever again," He ordered with a bored look in his eyes.

It didn't matter to him whatever happened to the woman at all.

Then addressing the rest, he spoke in a low tone, his voice authoritative and leaving no room for questions,

"And yes…I'm not responsible for getting her home. So you all are only escorting her outside. After that, she could go to hell, none of my business"

Then, after a small pause, his lips finally crept up–sending tremors down their spines.

"After all, dear Miss Olive here has a thing for colds," he uttered with a smile watching with sadistic pleasure as Amelia's face crumpled at his words. This man wanted her to freeze to death.

Realization struck the men like lightning. Was their boss… smiling?

In unison, they all chorused, "Poor Miss Amelia!"

What had she done to awaken the demon sleeping peacefully in this usually stoic man?

Their boss,Shane Degavon, rarely smiled. And when he did, it never went well for whoever made him smile.

It was…one of the eighth wonders of the world. At least to them, it was.
