When Anurak decided to leave school, it was a spur-of-the-moment decision. He wanted to be alone but the people around him refused to let him be. He knew it was because they cared for him, but it was irritating and belittling. He didn't like the fact that they undermined his wish and distrusted his strength and ability to take care of himself. Since his mom's death, even though Anurak was living with his father, he was never under his father's authority. In fact, living alone would have been better since the man didn't seem to remember that Anurak existed until he won the scholarship. Therefore, Anurak was a free bird. He does what he likes when he likes, and however, he likes.
When he got into school and found himself surrounded by people who cared too much, he became overwhelmed. Just thinking about how they would be hovering around him for the next couple of days scared Anurak. He was feeling too crowded and choked. He needed a break.
So, he ran.
