"UUUUGGGH!"

Violet coughs out the blood. The red liquid was everywhere on her clothes and face, but she had no time to clean it up.

How many times has it happened already?

The basement was dark and without any sunlight, so it was impossible to tell the time. She has been locked for three or maybe four days already. She guessed the time by stopping feeling the hunger.

The first mistake Violet made was to not eat anything, nor bring in any food. The first day was the worst for her, but her stomach stopped rumbling after two or three days. Luckily, at least there was some water, or she would have to give up due to dehydration. 

"Concentrate! You can do this!" She forced herself every time.

The essence of common herbs was harmless, but the higher the rank was, the more it fought back from being extracted. Some alchemists even called this "the mind of herb" indicating, that some of them developed a consciousness no different from animals.
