Capítulo 54: Gods and Celestials

While Loki caused chaos in the desert and Allen was recreating SAO, in Puente Antiguo, we have Thor being interrogated by two women alongside a man with an academic appearance.

They are astrophysicists and were the first to find Thor; once he landed on Earth, they accidentally hit him with their car and took him to the hospital. There was no further interaction, and they left him there, thinking he was just a peculiar guy, as Thor began saying things about being a god and calling them mortals.

Their research led them back to Thor. However, Thor was extremely rude, arrogant, and aggressive, and ended up escaping to look for his hammer. After that, his encounter with Allen happened.

They arrived at the bar in the middle of the conversation between Allen and Thor but didn't dare to interrupt, whether they believed Thor was a god or not, he was talking to none other than Allen Walker.

Thor apologized for his previous behavior and agreed to help them in their research as an apology.

Now, they were in a family restaurant because Thor was hungry; the god of thunder continued to experience the fragility of mortality every second.

"I wanted an autograph..." the dejected voice of a woman was heard in the bar. She was a bespectacled girl with black hair, giving Thor a sideways glance as she ate a burger. She is Darcy Lewis.

"So, it was true that you are a god? Big deal, Hulk nearly destroyed our world yesterday," Darcy mocked, recalling her not-so-majestic encounter with Thor.

The news of the existence of a god is incredible. Unfortunately, it came after the events of Worldbreaker Hulk, making it easier for them to accept Thor's existence. Of course, they hadn't yet witnessed the real power of Thor or any other god.

"Darcy, you don't have to be rude," interrupted a young woman with brown hair sitting next to her and in front of Thor; she was Jane Foster, who looked apologetically at Thor. "For my part, I hope you can make peace with your father."

Jane felt guilty for leaving Thor abandoned in the hospital the first time. It was also Thor's fault due to the egocentric and aggressive attitude he showed when they first met. Upon reuniting with Thor and seeing him less arrogant and apologizing, it paved the way for a fresh start.

"Thank you... I also hope to see my father again," Thor responded somewhat uncomfortably, not used to thanking others.

After his encounter with Allen, Thor had a lot to think about. Losing Mjolnir affected him, but he accepted that he was not worthy of the hammer at the moment. Thor wished more than anything to return to Asgard and apologize to Odin, but for that, he needed to become worthy again.

Allen told him he could come for the hammer whenever he wanted; of course, it's not that Allen is so charitable, in exchange for the hammer, Thor had to give him something of equal value in the future. Thor confidently accepted after all Asgard has many treasures accumulated over millennia.

"This is fascinating, life beyond Earth, a bridge that allows crossing light-years in seconds, beings calling themselves gods..."

Alongside Thor was a middle-aged man typing on a laptop, engrossed in all the information he was receiving. He is Erik Selvig, a professor at Jane Foster and Darcy Lewis, who teaches theoretical astrophysics at Culver University in Virginia. Erik Selvig is a brilliant scientist, honest, and a loyal friend, though he has the bad habit of getting too engrossed in his research.

Darcy shook her head, and Jane sighed when Erik got that way, tending to ignore everyone. Jane observed Thor for a moment, finding no difference between a human man and him. "Thor, tell me, if all the gods from myths and legends existed, why did they stop appearing in the world?"

This is a mystery in the MCU. Why, if there's a council of gods, don't they appear on Earth? They only appeared frequently millennia ago, leaving their legends.

Thor was about to bite into his hamburger but stopped, diving into his memories. "I didn't live through it, and I only heard legends about the reason for that." Thor's gaze turned serious. "A long time ago, the gods walked Midgard, or Earth, as you call it, like any human. However, one day, they appeared."

"They?" Darcy leaned in on the table, intrigued.

Thor nodded. "They call themselves Celestials, beings of unimaginable power that existed before the universe and the creation of all things..."

"That..." Jane was surprised to see the apprehensive attitude of the man in front of her. Thor seemed like a man who never showed weakness, but now his serious look revealed the level of the beings he was talking about.

"The Celestials create life on different worlds... they let it grow, evolve, and then return to judge if they are worthy of existing..."

"Wait!" Erik snapped out of his trance and interrupted. "Are you saying they created us?!"

One would think he'd be upset if it contradicted Darwin's theory of evolution, but Erik, being a scientist, never closed his mind to discoveries and knowledge. He wasn't bothered if all of the physics had to be reconstructed a thousand times if necessary for discovery.

"I don't know, according to the legend, they don't directly create life; they create conditions for life to sprout and be born... no matter. The important thing is that they create worlds and stars everywhere, suitable for intelligent life. However, when they came to Midgard, they realized the gods were interfering with natural evolution."

The Celestials are capable of anything to allow evolution to continue, even to the point of killing their creator and their brothers.

Thor sighed, regretting not being present at such an event. "There was a conflict between gods and Celestials, but it ended with all the gods stopping interfering with Midgard."

Darcy was shocked. "That's why there are only legends about gods, but no one has seen one... so if Odin is real, that means Zeus is also, I suppose..."

"Zeus?" Thor smiled. "Not only is he real, he's my mentor, hahaha!"

The three were in shock hearing that, hearing things that would turn the world upside down if revealed.

Jane finished her coffee in one gulp and looked gravely at Thor "How powerful are the Celestials that they drove the gods from the world?"

Thor continued eating, he couldn't said to Midgard's current food was better than Asgard's, Thor was tempted to hire cooks than here "Well, my father in his best days was capable of destroying an entire galaxy... so the Celestials are very strong if they managed to drive him out of Midgard..."

"..."

Thor noticed that they were no longer responding to him and raised his head, only to see his new friends in shock at such news.

"That's impossible, in every galaxy there are hundreds of millions of stars and planets destroying one is unreal" Erik was incredulous, Even if he had an open mind that statement was too ridiculous.

"Well the truth is I never saw my father with that level of power, I guess they are just legends," Thor thought for a moment and half agreed "The only thing for sure is that since that conflict, his power declined a lot and now he tends to fall asleep to regain his strength every few decades".

Darcy laughed dryly "ha ha... professor they are legends, just think about it, in mythology, Thor was fat and red-haired not a blond muscular model."

Jane coughed upon hearing that, and changed the subject "What will happen now that you're here?"

"My goal is to become worthy again, but first, I should find a means to sustain myself," Thor is not accustomed to being a mortal but must do it. Fatigue, hunger, sleep, and illness are things he simply cannot ignore.

"What if you help carry the equipment?" Darcy suggested.

"True, you don't need to do much, and it would be helpful, right, Professor?" Jane added.

"Well, I'm indeed getting old, and they take a long time," Erik smiled. "If you agree to such a humble job..."

Thor remained silent; he was aware that he had gone from being a crown prince to a mere assistant to a mortal. If he were Loki, he would have become violent; no, even Thor wouldn't have accepted this before meeting Allen.

"Thank you, I really don't deserve it..."

...

Thor left the place where Erik, Darcy, and Jane were staying, heavy suitcases in hand. The sun was rising slowly, bringing an increase in temperature.

Thor wiped the sweat as both Darcy and Jane watched him from afar.

Darcy noticed her friend's gaze and patted her shoulder. "I'll tell you this for your good, forget it."

"What are you talking about? I don't..."

"I know you enough, Jane. I get it a handsome man with strong muscles falls from the sky and turns out to be the god of thunder; my God, that's sexy! But no! He's a complete no!"

"Darcy?" Jane immediately denied it. "I don't like him or anything."

"Friend, let me tell you how it's going to be: you'll live a fleeting romance for a day, then he'll leave and won't return for years. When he does, it'll be because of an emergency; if you're unlucky, you'll be involved in that problem. After that, you'll try to make amends... it won't work, and he'll leave again... finally, more time will pass, you'll fall ill, and you'll live bitter."

Jane shivered.

"Thor is the adventurous type of man who flies where he's needed and wherever his destiny takes him. He won't stay with you. Besides, he's an immortal of a thousand years and will live for millennia... you know what? Go ahead, but remember, I warned you," Darcy adjusted her glasses, laughing at her mischief while leaving Jane Foster traumatized by such a cruel fate.

Needless to say, Darcy was just teasing her, but she didn't know that such a future wasn't far from reality. In the MCU canon, their relationship is toxic with a bad ending that's the reality, and Jane Foster got the worst part.

She approached Thor to give him a water bottle, trying to forget Darcy's words but failed.

...

Fury tried to contact Allen through donations, but Allen muted the alerts because many people were using them to ask personal things or say extremely hateful or fanatical things. Allen wasn't aware of the number of fans and haters he was gaining every second.

Natasha was in charge of checking the donations and thanking them in the direct chat. Still, upon learning about what was happening where Mjolnir fell, she didn't inform Allen.

To Natasha, Allen is her family; she wouldn't send her family where they could be in danger. On the other hand, she simply couldn't ignore a call for help from her boss. So, Natasha decided to go as reinforcement. With her teleportation pendant, she could withdraw if things became dangerous.

While Natasha went as backup, Fury also sent Hawkeye to help, and he went to visit Thor.

Fury stepped out of his car with Coulson as they approached Thor working to move equipment for Erik.

"Are you Thor, the god of thunder?" Fury approached, taking off his sunglasses.

"I was... and you are?"

"My name is Nick Fury, and we need to talk."

...

Fury explained everything about Loki, with videos taken from the current situation, but this made Thor furious.

"That's impossible! My brother wouldn't kill innocent people for no reason!."

"Well, I have the corpse of one of my subordinates in a bag if that serves as proof."

"I've known him since before your country existed; he's my brother and is not a monster!"

Fury waited calmly for Thor to calm down. Thor walked around the place while Erik tried to calm him.

"I don't know much about gods and that, but is there a chance someone could impersonate your brother?" Darcy, the calmest of the group, said.

Thor breathed, controlling his emotions, clearly while adopting his new mindset. "If my brother is good at illusion magic, and the Nine Realms are vast, I do not doubt that there are more people capable of doing that." Thor fell silent for a moment. Everyone went silent while Thor gave Fury an inquisitive look.

Fury looked at the door, and as if by his order, Maria Hill entered with three people very familiar to Thor. Thor's face lit up, as did the faces of the three guests.

They were Sif, Volstagg, and Fandral. They arrived where Thor had first landed, being investigated by SHIELD. Unlike Thor and Loki, they were more polite and finally found Thor. The only thing they regretted was that they took a day; Loki crowned himself as the interim King of Asgard and is now looking for Thor to kill him.

Thor sat in a chair, his face notably pale after hearing that Loki had betrayed them. Unlike Fury's words or even the video evidence, for Thor, the words of his companions weighed heavier; they were Thor's friends, and he was willing to trust them with his life.

Fury tactfully asked everyone else to leave. Thor sat in silence for almost five minutes before raising his head and stepping outside.

Thor looked at his companions and put his hand on each of their shoulders.

"Thank you for everything, and I apologize for being so troublesome all the time."

"Don't mention it; we always have your back," Sif grabbed her sword tightly, looking determined. "We stand by you even if it's against Loki."

"My life is at your service, Majesty," Fandral bowed with etiquette as he joked.

The red-haired dwarf laughed, hand on his belly. "We've been in worse situations, hahaha!"

"Patched man."

"I'm Nick Fury... doesn't matter."

"Can I ask you to take me to Loki?"
