Capítulo 181: First-Week Box Office, Praise and Criticism

In just a week, the box office results for 'Jurassic Park' shocked many ordinary Americans when it was first revealed on MSNBC.

The MSNBC News Anchor, with the 'Jurassic Park' logo and title displayed beside him, reported, "Have you recently watched a thrilling dinosaur movie that has captivated the attention of many?" With a smile, he continued, "Let's take a closer look."

The scene transitioned to a female reporter in Times Square, standing in front of a cinema with a steady stream of people entering and exiting. Holding an MSNBC-branded microphone, she remarked, "Today, if you ask moviegoers what film they plan to see, their answer is simple: 'Jurassic Park'."

The scene then transitioned to a recorded sequence, showing a bustling crowd heading into a cinema about to screen 'Jurassic Park,' with others gradually exiting.

The female reporter conducted an interview with one of the individuals leaving the theater, inquiring, "What are your thoughts on the movie 'Jurassic Park'?"

The man turned towards the camera and spoke into the microphone handed to him by the reporter, smiling as he said, "It was truly fantastic! I'm considering telling my family to watch it again!"

The female reporter nodded and inquired, "In your opinion, do you believe 'Jurassic Park' deserves the acclaim it's receiving?"

The man simply nodded and replied, "Absolutely. Judging from today's turnout, they must be raking in a significant sum at the box office."

The female reporter nodded and inquired, "How did you first learn about 'Jurassic Park' that prompted you to purchase a ticket?"

The man replied, "I heard about 'Jurassic Park' from a friend. Initially, I had my doubts when buying the ticket, uncertain whether the movie would truly live up to the hype. However, after watching it, I had no regrets. Now, I believe 'Jurassic Park' will become one of my favorites."

The female reporter nodded in agreement and added, "It's indeed a remarkable film. I watched it myself. By the way, do you happen to know the first-week box office earnings of 'Jurassic Park'?"

The man shook his head and admitted, "Oh, I wasn't aware..."

With a smile, the female reporter revealed, "The 'Jurassic Park' box office grossed at least 180 million dollars in its first week!"

Upon hearing the news, the man appeared surprised but then smiled, commenting, "Oh? I don't find it too shocking, considering how great the movie is when you watch it."

The scene transitioned back from the recorded tapes to the live scene with the female reporter standing in front of the cinema. She proceeded to report on the box office performance of 'Jurassic Park' during its first week of nationwide screening. Many viewers at home, who had only heard of 'Jurassic Park' but hadn't seen it, were taken aback by the impressive box office results.

In Hollywood, film critics who had reviewed 'Jurassic Park' also made appearances. Various film enthusiasts had read reviews from multiple critics. Julius Thompson from the Washington Post, in his review, described the film as a "triumph of technical wizardry" and stated that "KiShin Pictures and Spielberg have crafted a movie that is both awe-inspiring and terrifying."

Peter Ravers of Rolling Stone provided his review of 'Jurassic Park,' describing it as a visual feast that was both exhilarating and terrifying. He also lauded KiShin Pictures for their surprising debut in the film industry and praised the production team and the directorial skills of Stephen Spielberg.

Owen Gill from Entertainment Weekly shared his perspective, calling 'Jurassic Park' "a masterpiece of suspense and wonder." He further noted that KiShin Pictures had created a movie that would entertain and amaze audiences for years to come.

Janet Marly of The New York Times hailed 'Jurassic Park' as "a triumph of imagination and technology." She commended KiShin Pictures for producing a film that was visually stunning and emotionally resonant. Janet also recognized Stephen Spielberg, an already influential figure, for his directorial prowess.

Roger Parkinson of the Chicago Times awarded 'Jurassic Park' a perfect four out of four stars, hailing it as "a landmark in the history of special effects" and "a genuinely scary and thrilling movie."

While the list of film critics' praises for 'Jurassic Park' continued, there were also critics who found fault with it. Vincent Canly of The New York Times wrote a review characterizing the film as "a special-effects dinosaur movie that leans more on technical achievement than artistic merit." Canly further criticized the film's script, describing it as "a hodgepodge of clichés and banalities."

David Ansen of Newsweek voiced criticism toward the characters in 'Jurassic Park,' stating, "The characters in 'Jurassic Park' are largely one-dimensional cardboard cutouts, either there to be devoured by dinosaurs or to deliver cheesy dialogue."

Hal Hinson from The Washington Post criticized the film's pacing, noting, "Jurassic Park is a tale of two halves: the first half moves slowly and ploddingly, while the second half is so breathlessly paced that it's difficult to keep up."

Despite various criticisms, casual filmgoers chose to overlook the negative reviews and opted to experience 'Jurassic Park' for themselves.

The remarkable box office success of 'Jurassic Park' stirred envy among the "big six" in Hollywood.

The success of KiShin Pictures' film 'Jurassic Park' drew the attention of Tora and Suzuki, who also operated film studios in the USA, including Suzuki Pictures Entertainment and Tora Entertainment Creation. These two studios had been in the film industry and Hollywood since 1989, and up to this point, they hadn't achieved the level of success that KiShin Pictures had managed to attain with its debut.

KiShin Pictures' incredible accomplishment with 'Jurassic Park' not only sparked envy from Tora and Suzuki but also caught the notice of well-established film studios in the industry. Many of them couldn't help but feel regretful when Savoy Pictures secured the opportunity to distribute KiShin Pictures' 'Jurassic Park.' Some of these studios had been approached by KiShin Pictures but declined, and now, they couldn't help but rue their decisions.

Simultaneously, the Suzuki Brothers and the Vice Chairman of the Suzuki Group stood in awe as they witnessed the triumph of KiShin Pictures' debut film, 'Jurassic Park,' in the USA. They were left utterly speechless and couldn't help but be filled with wonder about just how far Shin's luck could take him.
