Capítulo 141: Preparation

[New York, USA]

December 2, 1991

In the KiShin Pictures workspace, Shin, Orio Masayoshi, along with several writers from the Writers Guild of America (WGA), and Stephen Spielberg from the Directors Guild of America (DGA) were present for a meeting.

During the meeting, Shin occasionally cast glances at Stephen Spielberg. This was because Spielberg was a legendary director in his past life, having helmed numerous successful films. Even though this version of Spielberg was merely a parallel existence from Shin's previous life, there seemed to be little distinction between the two, except for their age and names, perhaps.

They discussed the 'Jurassic Park' project, and when one of the writers inquired, "Where would be a suitable filming location?"

Stephen Spielberg stroked his chin as they all pondered the ideal spot.

Shin smiled and suggested, "The Hawaiian Islands."

All eyes turned toward Shin. Both Stephen Spielberg and the other writers regarded him with curiosity.

To be honest, Stephen Spielberg, like everyone else on the film team, was unaware of who Shin was. Shin had simply joined the meeting with Orio Masayoshi and hadn't spoken much, leading them to assume he might be Orio Masayoshi's son.

Seeing the bewilderment on everyone's faces, Shin spoke up, saying, "I'm Shinro Suzuki, the writer of 'Jurassic Park.'"

Surprise rippled through the room as they learned that the author of 'Jurassic Park' was this young man.

This time, Stephen Spielberg nodded in acknowledgment of Shin's presence in the meeting.

Benjamin Carey, the 30-year-old scriptwriter, chimed in, "I've been to Hawaii before, and considering that the story is set on an island, it might be the perfect location for the project."

Upon hearing this, most of them nodded, and some of the writers were eager to engage with Shin since he was the writer of 'Jurassic Park,' hoping to enhance their understanding of the story.

Meanwhile, Orio Masayoshi remained silent. He couldn't quite comprehend why Shin chose to conceal the fact that he was the owner of KiShin Pictures from the directors and writers, but he wasn't overly concerned about it.

After a while, Stephen Spielberg also approached Shin with a smile. "Young man," he said as he patted Shin's shoulder, "I have a strong feeling that your story will become quite popular due to its unique plot."

Shin responded with a faint smile, saying, "I'm not so sure. Hollywood can be critical, and I don't have high expectations or much confidence in it, even though I genuinely believe it's good."

Stephen Spielberg furrowed his brow and said, "Don't pay attention to them." He paused before continuing, "If you believe in the quality of your story, that's sufficient." With a reassuring smile, he added, "Just trust your instincts."

Other writers joined in to encourage Shin, while Orio Masayoshi couldn't help but feel somewhat powerless as he watched his young boss engage with people.

Following the discussion, Stephen Spielberg expressed with a frown, "This film will likely cost at least 50-60 million dollars."

One of them nodded in agreement, saying, "That's true. With CGI and motion capture, the costs can add up significantly."

Then another turned to Orio Masayoshi and inquired, "Mr. Masayoshi, even though you've assured us that you'll fund this film project no matter how expensive it gets, with the estimated cost alone reaching at least 50 or 60 million dollars, do you still plan to stand by your word?"

After that, Stephen Spielberg and the others turned their attention to Orio Masayoshi. The executives were left speechless, as the film team was unaware that the person funding the project was the young man before them. However, following Shin's cue, they chose to remain silent.

Orio and the executives had a faint understanding of Shin's motives. It was likely to blend in with the team seamlessly, avoiding any complications that might arise if the film team perceived Shin as just another affluent second-generation individual meddling in their business. They probably wouldn't believe that Shin was the actual author of 'Jurassic Park.'

Orio Masayoshi responded to the film team's doubts with a wry smile, saying, "Don't worry, my boss mentioned that even if the project budget estimation goes up to a hundred million dollars, it's not a problem."

The other executives chimed in, reassuring the film team.

This left the filming team pleasantly surprised. Stephen Spielberg exclaimed while patting Shin's shoulder with a smile, "Young man, it seems you're very lucky." He paused before adding, "Having someone willing to invest a significant amount to bring your story to life!"

One of the writers chimed in, saying, "Seems like the person backing KiShin Pictures is incredibly wealthy and unconcerned about the risks."

Another added with a chuckle, "Hehe, what's there to worry about when the veteran Stephen Spielberg is set to direct it?"

A third one agreed, saying, "That's a valid point."

Stephen Spielberg furrowed his brow upon hearing their conversations. "Hey, you're all giving me too much credit," he said. He paused and gave Shin's shoulder a hearty pat, causing Shin to smile wryly. "I am confident that if this young man's story is executed well, it will indeed become a blockbuster!"

Benjamin Carey chuckled and remarked, "A blockbuster, huh?" While he had some confidence that the film would be profitable, he remained skeptical about whether it would truly achieve blockbuster status.

It wasn't just him; in fact, aside from Shin and Stephen Spielberg, no one had high expectations, and the word 'blockbuster' didn't even enter their thoughts regarding the film project 'Jurassic Park.'

Orio Masayoshi and the executives shared this sentiment. To them, 'Jurassic Park' was something Shin had conceived casually. Despite viewing Shin as a young and accomplished entrepreneur, they also saw him as someone who was exuberantly enthusiastic, believing that everything he touched would turn into a success.

In fact, Orio Masayoshi and the others had already mentally prepared for the failure of 'Jurassic Park,' and it wouldn't come as a shock to them.

The actors and actresses cast in the 'Jurassic Park' film project were mostly second or third-tier talents in Hollywood, lacking significant influence and popularity.

Moreover, the overall storyline of 'Jurassic Park' was considered rather bizarre when viewed from today's perspective.

But, after all, it wasn't their money on the line, so they didn't pay it much heed.

As for the reasons they contemplated, these were probably why Hollywood critics were already poised for 'Jurassic Park' to fail, and the likelihood of KiShin Pictures turning a profit from it seemed uncertain.

In summary, everyone, with the exception of Shin and Stephen Spielberg, lacked enthusiasm for the 'Jurassic Park' film project.

For Shin, he remained confident that it would indeed succeed if executed well, as Stephen Spielberg had mentioned.
