Capítulo 10: Farm
"Ahhh.. I didn't think I would sleep that well for my first night here."
Blanc did a little stretching and got out of his makeshift grass bed.
The temporary settlements are really close to each other since there are no houses yet, this is so that Helena will have an easier time protecting them while they are asleep.
As a former knight on her father's domain, a night watch like this is very easy for Helena.
"Helena! Good morning, thanks for the hard work. You can sleep now. I'll keep watch for the time being. We really need to train a small batch of fighters as soon as we are stable here."
Blanc called out and gave her a morning greeting.
"Blanc! Good morning! I can finally sleep. Don't push yourself too hard!"
Helena said while looking around.
He was puzzled by Helena's sneaky movements but his questions were soon answered as Helena gave him a sweet passionate kiss.
Turns out she was checking if someone was looking!
Blanc couldn't help but smile happily after a kiss from Helena. This should energize him for a while.
After kissing him, Helena proceeded to her own makeshift bed and slept.
He called everyone for another task distribution as they have a different agenda for day number two.
They needed to assign designated workers to start growing crops and make a small pen for the rabbits and chickens.
"Everyone, starting now, we will have four groups with different tasks."
"Group one will be the gathering team. They will be made up of 15 villagers, 3 of them will be responsible for gathering firewood while the other 12 will focus on gathering palm leaves, vines, sticks, and lumber"
"I will now be the leader of this group since Helena will be assigned to a different group while we will still be gathering materials on the outskirts of the forest of echoes."
"Group 2 will be the construction team and will have 10 villagers, all of which are responsible for building the accommodations. Building housing for everyone will be the priority for the construction team."
"Group 3 will be the farmers and militia team with 20 villagers. For now, they will be mixed together as we currently need additional manpower to start working on the farms."
"Once the farms are up and running, half of the villagers assigned to this group will be assigned to other tasks."
"Lastly, Group 4 will be the meal preparation team made up of 10 villagers, they will be responsible for preparing the meals for everyone."
"If there are no questions, again, I thank everyone for doing their utmost for the village. Everyone can now start doing their assigned jobs."
After relaying his instructions, Blanc left with the gathering team to gather materials near the forest of echoes.
Meanwhile, The farming team, currently the team with the most manpower, started working.
Some of them grabbed hoes and started tilling the soil while others went towards the nearby shallow part of the river in order to gather water both for consumption and farming.
Lastly, the last small group of villagers assigned to the farming team started to create small pens for the rabbits and chickens.
The farming team was very productive and after a few hours passed, they were able to plant a few seeds, watered the crops, and a few small pens were finished for the chickens and rabbits.
Going back to the water source, this is also why Blanc chose this part of the gloomy plains to start their village.
There is a river close by where they can gather water. In addition, once they have studied the area a bit more, they can start to fish.
A few more hours passed and the farm is starting to look like a farm.
Although there are no fences yet and only a few crops were planted today, they can continue the work tomorrow and plant more crops.
All in all, the progress for the day was very good. They were able to plant seeds and with proper care, these seeds should grow into food for the villagers.
The small animals should also have adapted to their new environment within a few days, the chickens should be able to lay some eggs and the rabbits will start breeding.
The day was close to ending and the gatherers including Blanc are now back to the village.
They gathered a remarkable amount of building materials even though they were really not that accustomed to living in the wild yet.
This is of course thanks to Blanc's extensive knowledge, the villagers were able to be really efficient under his leadership.
The progress of the construction team was the worst so far though, as most of the villagers are quite new to carpentry.
In addition they had to temporarily use vines to bind the palm leaves, logs, and sticks in order to finish a small hut for the villagers to live in.
The construction team were only able to finish a single small hut which can only accommodate 2-3 persons, they were very far from their goal.
These accommodations are only temporary. Blanc naturally had plans on how to improve the accommodations for everyone, Although it will be very hard to apply it in the short term since they are just starting out.
The start will always be the hardest when creating a village from nothing as they have limited resources and limited population. In addition, they still need to get accustomed to their environment.
As time goes by though, their efficiency and the development of the village will improve exponentially as more options open up.
Just like this, the second day once again went without a problem.
