Even in my other life, I'd always wondered what the source of Gohan's inexplicable power was. The official explanation for it was just that he had immense potential as a half-Saiyan, but that didn't really cover it. Goten and Trunks were half-Saiyans too, and they didn't have nearly as much unexplainable power as Gohan did. Alone, neither of them would even reach Super Saiyan 2, not even by the time Dragon Ball GT comes around, they just stayed at the same power level from the moment they became Super Saiyan to the moment they became too old to do it, yet Gohan had basically skipped straight from Super Saiyan 1 to Super Saiyan 2 with little help from dad, and sometimes he even showed power that went far beyond that. As his sister, I knew that it wasn't just from being half-Saiyan, or from being Goku's kid, there was something more in his potential that I'd needed to train myself to keep up with.
That was what I thought about as I gathered the Dragon Balls on everyone else's behalf. With my senses, I didn't even need the Radar to do it, as I could sense the tiny bit of divine power that they gave off since they hadn't been used in a while. In the show, it had taken them around ten months to gather them, so I figured I'd expedite it a little bit.
By 4 o'clock in the afternoon, I'd gathered every single ball and teleported them to Roshi's closet in the Kame house for funsies. When Bulma hooked up the radar, she'd definitely be surprised, and maybe annoyed at Roshi. Not that I'd be there to experience it since my mother was already over there, annoyed after Krillin's visit where he hadn't explained anything.
This was the second day after my dad's death. That meant that Bulma was putting the final touches on the Scouter that she'd use to find Tien and Yamcha, and most importantly, there'd be a full moon out tonight. This was the night that Gohan changed into a Great Ape for the first time in the shows.
With my control over my physical body, I could block the Blutz Waves from going through my own tail, stopping my transformation before it started, and even if I hadn't stopped it, I'd trained to control my Ape form. I didn't have to worry about going ape every time I looked at the moon, but Gohan did. After he showed Piccolo his powers tonight, Piccolo would destroy the moon and cut off Gohan's tail.
I wanted to limit the damage there. It was for the best that the moon was gone, but I planned on faking its destructing for Piccolo before stuffing it into the same dimension as the Core, so that it wouldn't take a whole wish to bring it back.
As for Gohan's tail, I didn't want to see it pulled off. Tails really were important to a Saiyan's powers, especially after the third transformation. The entire point of a Saiyan's tail was to store excess power, after all, whether it be from Blutz Waves or anything else, as I'd learned after a lot of experimentation.
"You've gotten stronger rather quickly, kid. Are you here to train, or check on your brother?" Piccolo asked me. We were floating in the sky near the cliff that Gohan was currently trapped on, just like he had been in the anime. The sun was starting to set.
"The latter. Just to let you know, for as much potential as Gohan has, you'll pretty much have to force it out. He doesn't have the heart of a warrior." I told Piccolo.
"Is that so? He'll have to grow it, if he wants to survive my training. Don't interfere with him, all right?" Piccolo told me.
"I want him to get stronger, too." I told Piccolo. We descended into silence after that, neither of us really chatterboxes.
"Piccolo, look at that." It was finally happening. Gohan was looking at the moon. As we watched, he grew and grew, until he was the size of a building. He was a Great Ape.
"What's going on?"
"It's the moon! I can feel it too. Gohan's not going to be able to resist something like this!" I told Piccolo that I was resisting the transformation, which wasn't a total lie. I could feel the Blutz waves, after all, I'd just rewired my body so that I couldn't transform like that, since it was too huge to be of real use to me at this point. Gohan really wasn't going to be able to resist it. He was already destroying things indiscriminately.
"Of course! Their tails let them transform at the full moon! Hold him back for a moment while I destroy it!"
"You're going to destroy the moon?" I asked. I made it sound insane.
"It's our only option! Just give me time to charge my power!"
"Alright." Piccolo got started right away. It wasn't going to take him much time to charge enough power to simply destroy the moon, but as a Great Ape, Gohan would instinctively feel his power and try to stop him, so I rammed into Gohan's huge ape body with all of my heavily restricted strength. Gohan crashed into a cliff and down he went, pretty easily.
Honestly, I could have stopped him by myself even with my restricted power, thanks to my special techniques, but I didn't need to.
As I saw Piccolo shoot his beam I, laying on top of Gohan's ape stomach, unrestricted some of my power for a brief moment, creating an illusion in the air of the beam destroying the moon as I passed the moon through a portal that lead directly to the Core. You could feel the fake shockwave I created all the way from the Earth's surface.
By the time that the moon was gone, Gohan was already shrinking. By the time Gohan was back to normal, Piccolo was standing beside me.
"That was incredible fighting power. We're lucky that we discovered it now, rather than later." He reached over to yank off Gohan's tail, but I stopped him.
"I think that we need to leave the tail on him."
"It's just a liability without the moon." Piccolo argued.
"It's useful in battle if you strengthen it. On top of that, we don't know if the Saiyans coming can artificially make their own moon." Which Vegeta actually could. Leaving Gohan's tail on wouldn't really matter right now, because he'd regrow it at crucial moments, but it would matter in the late future, if he ever managed to master Super Saiyan 2. Super Saiyan 3 is so much easier to transform into if you're already in your ape form.
"Just tell him to wrap it around his waist during battle, so that it can't be grabbed or cut off." I told Piccolo, finally convincing him.
"Alright. But it's your funeral." Piccolo left Gohan's tail intact and just gave him the orange gi with his symbol like he had done in the show, leaving a sword beside it as well.
"Look. If you want to look in on your brother from time to time, that's fine. Just don't actually interact with him or make things easier for him. He needs to learn to survive on his own."
"You're right, Piccolo. Thank you for what you're doing for him."
"I'm not doing anything unless he survives this on his own." Piccolo reminded me.
"Fine by me." I agreed.
