Darf raked a hand down his disillusioned face. "I see… And where did the legendary beast appear? To the north or central border?"
"At the central stronghold," answered the king. "That is where I wish to send you, Sir Darf. In order to learn why they sent their strongest beast to the furthest of the two border forts. And, if at all possible, for you to defeat the legendary beast and repel it from Wissal territory.
"Do accept my direct request?"
"... First, tell me the other reason behind my requested involvement."
"Enough of your grandstanding!"
The nobleman to the king's left stood up, with his military medals bouncing under the chandelier's light.
"You continue to refuse nobility, which means your status remains far below everyone present. Quit your tomfoolery! Either accept the king's good graces or stop wasting our time and do as ordered!"
"You've said more than enough, Earl Konreyd," the king grumbled through a harsh smile.
