Seeing the anticipated two characters appear on the cell phone screen,
Lily couldn't say she was disappointed, but she definitely wasn't happy either.
Of course, she knew that Aidan Lucas was never going to simply reply with an 'okay.'
But his direct rejection still made her feel like someone had dumped a bucket of cold water on her head.
The courage she had mustered up so painstakingly was just like that extinguished.
Lily hugged her pillow and consoled herself, at least he hadn't exploded in anger or given her the silent treatment; in fact, this could be considered a good sign.
Staring blankly at the cell phone, Lily was somewhat at a loss about how to continue this conversation.
Should she send another message, one that's bolder, more explicit?
But that, she feared, might provoke a stronger aversion from Aidan Lucas.
Then, maybe a more serious one?
