The first ticket I tore apart was obviously the common language one since not being able to speak , read or write just sounds irritating. The sudden influx of information into my head from the ticket gave me a bit of a headache but I chose to ignore it since I could now speak another language. Though I definitely needed practice if the word "novice" next to the skill in my status was anything to go by. Still that was a small price to pay in my opinion since the knowledge from the ticket was pretty comprehensive and it was a whole new language.-
I waited few minutes for my headache to subside before I moved onto the next ticket that had me excited and nervous at the same time , the random pokemon ticket. As someone who had played the games thoroughly I was aware that while no pokemon was bad to have some of them were much weaker from other just as a rule of thumb normally. Tearing the ticket I was surprised to see three roulette wheels appear. The first had the pokemon options on it and I immediately noticed that it was first form pokemon only which was a relief.-
The second roulette wheel however was labeled the variation wheel and and had six options that had lower and lower odds yes , yes 2x , yes , 3x , yes 4x , yes 5x and no. The no option had the highest chance with fifty slots followed by yes with twenty. The odds drastically fell from there however as yes 2x had five , yes 3x had three , yes 4x had two and yes 5x had a single entry on the wheel. This made it abundantly clear that variations were extremely valuable and that I should be happy to have one even if it were something like a shuckle.-
The final roulette wheel had the different types of variations possible on it with shiny being the most common with fifty entries followed by royal with twenty , then the rest each had five entries. Those variations were ancient , strength , speed , intelligence , defense and elemental. There was however a single entry of another variation called legendary that had me interested. Apparently the system was waiting for my input before it began to spin the first wheel. Giving it I watched with fingers crossed as the wheel spun round and round before slowing down to stop on a pokemon name , Larvitar.-
"YES!" I exclaimed excitedly while punching the air above me in joy. Larvitar was one of the few species that were counted as pseudo legendary due to it's final form , Tyranitar , having stats close to the legendries in the game. That probably didn't hold true in reality since the legendries were supposed to be gods basically but that didn't mean it wasn't a fantastic starter pokemon. That was when the second wheel began to spin and it dawned on me that I could also get a variant form pokemon as well.-
When the wheel eventually stopped on yes 2x I was over the moon with elation as this meant my larvitar was bound to be amazing. Finally I watched the final wheel spin and mentally begged for it to land on legendary but I had no such luck. The first variation was the shiny variation which was basically just a color change and slightly disappointing to see. The second spin was also not very special as it landed on the second most re3adily available option , royal. With the pokemon roulette done I watched in curiosity as a black and white pokeball the same size as the others appeared out of nowhere in the bag.-
Picking it up I immediately was startled as I felt a connection formed between me and the pokemon in the ball. It was unusual really as it felt like I was physically a part of the pokemon and it was of me and yet not at the same time. It is hard to describe and so I simply won't try because nothing I say will do it justice. Clicking the release button in the center of the ball it took a short moment to actually open 'probably to take the act of throwing it into account' I thought.-
The bright red glowing energy shot out of the open ball and solidified into a six foot tall bright green stony bipedal creature with a tall head spike of the same color and a red belly. it also had curiosity filled red eyes and black markings under it's eyes and on it's chest. "Lar?" the thing said adorably as it looked at me with interest. It was painfully clear at this point that the royal variation was pretty much a doubling of size as I knew from the games I played it would usually only be three feet tall normally.-
Getting stared at by what may as well be a you sized superpowered dinosaur was uncomfortable no matter who you asked and I was no exception. "I am your new trainer , Alex." I said nervously in common but the pokemon merely nodded and sat down on the ground like it wasn't bothered at all. 'You know what? I am not going to complain about it being so chill when I don't have a fucking clue what I'm doing.' I thought deciding not to look a gift horse in the mouth.-
Looking at my status I saw that the pokemon tab now had the larvitar listed next to it along with a little symbol that I recognized as the female symbol from the games. "A girl huh? Wonder what I such call you?" I said in very rough broken common and my pokemon looked confused for a moment before figuring out what I said and perking up. "Lar! Lar! Vii! Tar! Larvitar!" the thing said eagerly like I was supposed to have any clue what that meant. Oddly though I did seem to understand like some sort of instinctual understanding.-
I decided to spare myself the headache and just rolled with it "Something powerful huh? What about grace?" I asked in rough common but my Larvitar shook her head in disagreement. "Hmmm , What about Gaia?" I asked and she seemed to think about it before nodding with a smile and cried out "Larvitar!" happily. I couldn't help but smile myself as it seemed her joy was contagious. "Alright Gaia , I'll try to keep you out of your ball when I can but might need to store you in it later alright?" I said in slightly better common not not by much.-
"Tar!" Gaia said with what I assume is an understanding nod. With introductions completely I turned my attention to the final ticket in the bag , the random skill ticket. Much like the others when he tore this one another roulette wheel appeared only this time there was so many different entries that he couldn't even read them which was clearly because it had all the possible skills he could have. Watching the wheel spin nervously he was left speechless when it landed on cleaning of all the possible options. There was then a massive influx of information about the best ways to tidy up all sorts of things from wine stains to blood and even sexual fluids. 'Looks like I'm going to be one hell of a butler.' I thought with a chuckle.
Looking at my status again I see that this skill was also at "novice" and shrugged since I honestly didn't see me needing this skill very much. Unlike the common language skill that was likely to be crucial to living in this world cleaning didn't really seem like a vital skill to my survival. Not to say I wasn't happy to have the skill since I am pretty sure I can't have too many skills and every little bit helps. Surprisingly I noticed a change to my race as well as some of my stats on my status screen.-
My race had changed to Human-bonded and my strength , agility and aura had increased by two whole points. I of course asked the system about this and was surprised to learn that this was one of the perks of being a pokemon trainer. Even crazier was that the boost each bonded pokemon gave was different based on it's own traits as well as strength. Gaia's species for example usually only gave half a point as untrained Larvitars but thanks to her royal and shiny variations she gave two points. Normal non pseudo-legendries however usually only gave twenty five percent of a point.-
"GRUUU!" My stomach grumbled in hunger pulling me out of my thoughts as I noticed that I simply didn't have any food on hand. "Hey Gaia what do you normally eat?" I asked my companion since I legitimately didn't know. How could I when all I knew about pokemon diets was berries , candy and poffins from the games and that was it. Rather than go looking for berries or some other edible thing I assumed asking Gaia if she was an omnivore , carnivore or herbivore was a good idea. The answer I got was the most pokemon thing ever as she simply leaned over and took a mouthful of stone from the caves wall and chewed it up before swallowing it.-
"Well at least you don't have very high requirements." I said with a chuckle and got a deep rumble from Gaia in response like she was laughing. "Well stand up , I can't eat rocks like you and need a bodyguard while I forage for food for me." I said in my rough common getting another rumble from her as she stood up and started walking out the cave. Once out of the cave I took a good look around just like Gaia did to familiarize myself with the area.-
The trees were what the sort that I recognized from earth as pine trees that tended to cover most of the tropical south of the united states. "I would like to think we are in Hoenn at the moment from the humidity and heat as that was how the place was shown but I am not sure about that." I say out loud in common so that Gaia could also hear. She snorted through her nostrils and began sniffing the air before pointing in a direction.-
"Is there food over there?" I ask and she nods. "Lets go then." I said and she led the way in front of me in case something were to jump out at us. Something did too , a small dog looking creature with brown and tan stripes and spikey fur as well as two darker spots of fur around it's eyes and a vicious snarl. "A Zigzagoon , definitely Hoenn then. Gaia Bite!" I commanded and a ferocious look appeared on her face as she leapt forward with her mouth open and closed her jaws around the Zigzagoon's neck in a move of surprising agility before a sickening "CRUNCH!" echoed through the area.-
Gaia directly broke the things neck in an instant showing that jaws that are meant to crush rocks aren't to be underestimated. [DING! Due to your first victory you are reward 1x random skill ticket and 1x exp ticket!] The system chimed in at this point letting the realization of having given Gaia the command to end the life of another pokemon sink in. Surprisingly I didn't feel all that bad about it which was unexpected. 'Yeah , might need to work on this apathy towards death before I get Gaia involved in actual trainer battles lest she kill all her opponents.' I thought seriously.-
Speaking of Gaia she stood back up and acted like nothing happened "Lar!" she said pointing at the corpse before pointing at her mouth. "You want to eat it?" I asked surprised at the idea since there was no mention of eating pokemon in the games. I mean it made sense that there would be food chain involving them in place in a real world version so I wasn't off guard very long. Gaia shook her head and pointed at me then the corpse and finally her mouth.-
I wasn't stupid so I figured out what she meant easily enough "I can eat it?" I asked for confirmation and she nodded. "I will be honest I have no clue how to butcher or cook this thing." I said awkwardly in common. Gaia rolled her eyes at me before picking the corpse up by the head and stabbing one of her short but sharp claws into the throat of it and pulling it down hard causing the internal organs and still warm liquid blood to spill out onto the ground. She then raked her claws along the open cavity to remove anything clinging on like the heart and lungs.-
"Lar! Tar!" she then said and I could somehow instinctively know she was saying that I needed a fire now. 'Well lets see if I remember how to make a fire from all those YouTube videos.' I thought as I grabbed a bunch of dry pine needles from the ground and some sticks that looked pretty dry as well and had Gaia follow me back to the cave where I piled up the sticks and pine needles. Reaching into my jeans pocket I pull out the remnants of my zippo lighter that I always had on me for comfort.-
It was mostly destroyed just like most of my clothes but the striker still worked much to my relief. Tearing off a bit of my shirt I clicked the striker a few times before the cotton caught and I hurriedly stuffed it into the mess of pine needles and started to blow on it gently. Soon my small pile of sticks was burning as white smoke came from the fire. "Yes!" I celebrated my small victory loudly and Gaia merely rumbled at me in amusement.-
I had her rip off the skin of the corpse which she did in a brutal show of power by simply pulling it off like she was peeling an orange. I had to make a few tips to collect more pine needles and sticks as well as a log from a nearby fallen tree before using some of the sticks to hold the meat and bones over the fire at an angle like all those videos showed. The fat dripped from the meat into the fire below sending up a heavy meat smell that had my stomach rumbling loudly. Once I thought that the meat on one side was done I carefully flipped over my cooking food and allowed the other to cook.
Author note : If you have any ideas for skills , abilities , items or pokemon variations that make sense feel free and let me know and who knows if the RNG gods favor you it might actually show up.
