Capítulo 60: Chapter 20: Martial Sister Bai Lian, Cold Exterior and Fiery Heart

A chilling breeze caressed Su Youwei's cheek. Her left wrist cradled the "正" character, warming its surface beneath her thumb. An unexpected sense of security washed over her—a calmness that countered her initial restlessness.

Strangely composed, devoid of fear, this newfound assurance emanated from Bai Lian's presence, as well as from Xiao Jinse's excited gaze.

Could this be the camaraderie of fellow sect members? Su Youwei wondered, experiencing it for the first time.

Recalling the moment when she had been accosted by strangers, Su Youwei contemplated her actions. Despite her strength, she had consciously chosen not to retaliate, unwilling to bring any trouble to Martial Sister Bai Lian as a newcomer.

Unbeknownst to her, that seemingly innocuous decision had triggered a series of events, spiraling into a larger conflict.

Su Youwei's anger swelled as the situation escalated. Her efforts to suppress her inner demon were in vain; the impulse refused to subside.

Yet, just as she had reached the precipice of unleashing her fury, the second Elder Martial Sister descended from above, bearing the formidable Blowing Snow Sword.

An explosive impact followed—a single strike reduced the floor beneath them to shards, cracks spider-webbing across hundreds of meters. The powerful gust propelled onlookers backward, leaving some injured and bleeding.

Su Youwei experienced a mix of emotions. Her hatred towards the second Elder Martial Sister, Xiao Jinse, had abated. Gratitude, for the second Elder Martial Sister's timely intervention, now filled her heart.

Witnessing Xiao Jinse's remarkable display of strength, Chen Lu's attention was piqued. After moments of contemplation, she had planned to dismiss the matter casually. She ranked within the top 30 of the Jade List and hailed from Yunluo Peak; Su Youwei's intention was to avoid causing Bai Lian any unnecessary trouble by yielding to Chen Lu's authority.

But before Chen Lu could utter a word, Bai Lian appeared on the scene, swiftly changing the course of events. The power dynamics shifted drastically.

Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian's strength effectively silenced Chen Lu, forcing her into a corner. The whispering crowd could hardly contain their astonishment.

"Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian is unafraid of conflict!"

"I wonder if Martial Sister Chen Lu will accept Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian's challenge."

"If I were Chen Lu, I wouldn't. It seems like she's inviting a beating."

"Even Elder Martial Brother Gong Juren can't match Martial Sister Bai Lian. Could Chen Lu really contend with her?"

Chen Lu's complexion turned a volatile mix of pale and red. The mocking whispers reached her ears, exacerbating her frustration. She had not foreseen Bai Lian's swift arrival or her fervent determination.

With a withering glance towards Chen Lu, Bai Lian's expression remained unyielding. Her attention shifted to her loyal companion—the jade rabbit by her side.

The rabbit had a crucial role to play now. It would be payback time for the kindness Bai Lian had shown it.

"Haw (to fight)!"

If Bai Lian was to face off against someone, she needed to defeat the rabbit first.

The rabbit's turquoise ears spun like whirlwinds, conjuring a tempest that enveloped the sky. In an instant, clear skies gave way to gathering clouds.

Chen Lu's heart quivered. She sensed an impending threat from the seemingly unassuming creature. An unsettling dread swirled within her.

Chen Lu realized she might stand no chance against the rabbit. In a contest of power, she would likely emerge defeated—humiliated even.

Facing such a predicament, Chen Lu's desperation escalated. Bai Lian's taunts only fueled her desperation.

Chen Lu considered lashing out in frustration, but an internal struggle ensued. A wave of humiliation coursed through her—she couldn't believe Bai Lian would be so audacious. After all, her own weapon of choice was a soft whip.

Chen Lu's confidence waned as she observed Bai Lian's unwavering demeanor. How could she not even recall her weapon?

This was infuriating. Chen Lu restrained herself, understanding that antagonizing Bai Lian further would only diminish her own dignity.

Bai Lian's verdict silenced Chen Lu. Her retort remained unspoken.

Bai Lian's voice remained stern, "Do not fret. Unlike you, I won't stoop to such levels. To face you, I'll suppress my power to the early stage of Golden Core."

Bai Lian constructed a water curtain with the Dirt Free Sword, gently pushing the rabbit into action. As water pooled around them, a demarcated boundary took shape—a battleground of Bai Lian's choosing.

"Fight within this perimeter!"

The restricted space favored Bai Lian, enabling her to maximize her strengths. An oversight Chen Lu hadn't anticipated.

Chen Lu was visibly flustered. She had underestimated Bai Lian's strategic foresight, a miscalculation that would cost her dearly.

"You!"

A seething retort hung on Chen Lu's lips, yet she swallowed her words, sensing Bai Lian's latent strength.

"Humph," Bai Lian snorted, "Rest assured, I'm unlike you. Confronting you at the early stage of the Golden Core should suffice."

With a flourish of her sword, Bai Lian set her plan in motion, unrolling the battlefield within the water curtain.

Chen Lu attempted to maintain her composure, determined to present a facade of confidence. However, beneath her bravado, her thoughts churned—a chaotic mix of indignation and humiliation.

Her grand entrance had been reduced to this—a pitiable sight.

Chen Lu's heart raced as she weighed her options. Should she challenge Bai Lian? The consequences were daunting. Bai Lian, with her Nascent Soul Stage cultivation, was a formidable opponent. Fighting her risked further damage to her reputation.

Realizing her predicament, Chen Lu reluctantly conceded. This wasn't a battle she could win. To openly engage Bai Lian would only exacerbate her own humiliation.

With a begrudging tone, Chen Lu muttered, "I'll address this matter. If need be, I'll personally apologize to the Sect Leader. Those disciples who violated our sect's rules will face justice under the jurisdiction of our law enforcement elders."

Bai Lian's resolve remained unshaken. Unmoved by Chen Lu's words, she continued her icy stare, an unspoken challenge.

As tension permeated the air, the onlookers remained hushed. Their whispers, however, revealed their thoughts:

"Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian is truly fearsome. Merely a glance from her made me feel a chill down my spine."

"Don't be naive. It's a classic case of appearing cold on the surface but harboring intense fire within!"

"Oh, how I wish I were a disciple of Qiongming Peak."

"Snap out of it! Qiongming Peak exclusively accepts female disciples."

"If Master An Lan were willing to accept me, I'd switch my gender in a heartbeat!"

Bai Lian approached the junior Martial Sisters, advising, "Return to Qiongming Peak for now."

Xiao Jinse voiced her concerns, "Elder Martial Sister, did you perhaps go a little overboard?"

Bai Lian shook her head, her determination unwavering. "It's fine. I can handle it."

Although Chen Lu's fate remained uncertain, Bai Lian anticipated no severe repercussions. She trusted that An Lan, her master, would defend her actions if required.

Bai Lian's words brimmed with confidence, "Do not worry. I have devised a specialized regimen for both of you, one that will undoubtedly fortify your strength."

Xiao Jinse and Su Youwei exchanged glances, their apprehension tempered by gratitude towards Bai Lian.

Even the fleeting visions that had occasionally plagued Su Youwei no longer felt burdensome. Encouraged by Bai Lian's unwavering support, she resolved to meet her expectations, vowing to ascend to the Foundation Establishment Stage within ten days.

"Elder Martial Sister, what does this specialized regimen entail?" Xiao Jinse inquired.

Bai Lian's expression grew solemn. "All will be revealed tonight."

With that, Bai Lian concluded, leaving her junior Martial Sisters to ponder the challenges that lay ahead.
