Capítulo 56: A TEST OF RESOLVE
The pressure on her neck intensified, making it difficult for her to breathe. The grip applied by his fingers felt like they were slowly piercing into her skin. At this moment, all she could experience was a profound sense of fear, accompanied by intense pain.
She found herself at a life-threatening juncture, held by an unknown entity emanating an aura of death and destruction. Her sole chance of escape lay in someone currently in a sorry state.
The reality of her impending demise sank in, and despite a small part of her insisting all this wasn't real, she found that hard to believe as she could feel herself actually being so close to death.
In a final effort to resist her impending doom, she suddenly began screaming at the top of her voice.
Why? She had no idea. At this point, her fate was likely sealed. Nevertheless, this might have been a last protective reflex action from her body, sensing its imminent succumbing to a great threat.
Bobby and Joel could only watch this unfold. Despite their strong desire to save her from the man's grip, they knew that intervening would likely result in sacrificing themselves without achieving any results in return.
Perhaps it was their fear speaking, or maybe it was logic; all they knew was that the only person with a chance of making a difference in the unfolding events was Raziel, currently lying completely drained on the…
Bobby and Joel, in a synchronized manner, turned their gaze toward the spot where Raziel had been lying, only to find it now empty. They then quickly shifted their attention toward the man and noticed he was missing a hand, specifically the one he had used to keep Amanda in his grip.
Blood spilled from the cut, and Amanda now lay on the floor. Turning to the side, they noticed Raziel standing there, his gaze fixed intensely on the strange man. He no longer held the scythe in his hand, replacing it with what appeared to be a smaller version of a machete.
Though he didn't look any better than before, the mere fact that he was on his feet again suggested there might still be a glimmer of hope for them in this fight.
The two were about to begin their clash; however, after taking two or three steps forward, Raziel suddenly fell to his knees. A line of blood flowed from the side of his mouth and one of his nostrils, and the machete in his hand quickly disintegrated into a dark fog.
He was definitely still in bad shape.
Bobby instantly recognized what these signs meant. It was a common indication when Primes strained their minds and bodies by overusing their fiefs. At this point, if Raziel continued to force his body to use his fief, he might end up dead.
So, this was it. This marked the probable end of their journey here.
The two strongest members of their group had been completely neutralized, leaving no hope for any of them to recover soon.
Bobby could envision two potential scenarios based on how things had unfolded.
He could simply run away with a chance of survival even though it was a mediocre one, or he could stay behind to try to maybe fight the strange man and help the other members of the group and most definitely die.
While his logic told him to pick the first option they had after all been asked to survive, not jump into deadly danger that was sure to kill them, Bobby still found it hard to turn and leave.
However, the same thing couldn't be said for Azel as he had already turned around and ran, summoning all his might in his escape.
Yes it was a test, and yes all this wasn't real, meaning they weren't actually dying but for some reason, this was easier said than believed.
The whole vibe given off by all of this showed nothing fake…from the expressions of pain on both Raziel's and Amanda's to the pressuring aura of death emanating from the man, it all seemed too real.
Bobby couldn't blame him though, he was also battling with taking the same step however something told him this was most likely the best opportunity he might get to achieve something from this test.
Their reason for being sent here in the first place was so they could most likely awaken their fiefs, and since coming here they had been trying to find clues to the test only for him to run away when the first thing most likely related to the test showed up.
With aspirations of becoming the greatest Prime and considering his current power level, passing this test was imperative for him to fully awaken his fief.
This marked a crucial stride toward realizing his dream. However, when the initial trial for the test materialized, he chose to remain in the background, observing as the two students, who needed to pass the test the least, struggled in their attempts to combat it.
He just stood there and kept using the excuse of being too weak to contribute anything to the fight to quench the guilt he felt.
And now when everything turned against them and both Raziel and Amanda had been severely injured by the fight, here he was contemplating his escape.
A small smile appeared on Bobby's face as he found it quite funny…he found his actions quite very funny, especially for someone who aimed at being the best of the best as a hero.
Maybe for a moment, Imma wasn't wrong about him…for a moment though.
Bobby slowly squatted and picked up a hand-sized piece of rock that had likely detached from a part of the building, he then stood back on his feet, his eyes focused on the strange man who seemed to be immersed in sending incessant attacks at Raziel who looked barely conscious at this point, making it a shock on how he was still able to evade all those attacks.
He began walking toward the man and from how shaky he walked, it was evident he was still extremely scared but was still pushing himself forward regardless.
As he got closer and closer he kept muttering the words "I can do this" to himself, not taking his eyes off the strange man for a second.
