When Steve was still in a weakened state, Alex seized the opportunity to pluck a single strand of hair from him. With a sly grin, Alex tossed the hair into system resource bank.
"Start collecting genes," Alex silently commanded.
The voice of the system resonated in his ears, confirming the success of the test. Was this the key to fortifying the super soldier gene?
As expected, Alex couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement. However, the super soldier serum he had requested had proven ineffective.
"Strengthen it," Alex commanded inwardly.
Simultaneously, he tugged at the corner of Howard's clothes and said, "I'm heading back now."
"Alright, take care on your way," Howard nodded, his voice filled with genuine concern.
"Of course," Alex replied before making his way out.
He was well aware that Dr. Abraham would later face a dire fate at the hands of HYDRA's agents. Not intervening would certainly complicate matters, and Alex despised complications.
After all, Dr. Abraham had a good relationship with Howard, and Howard recognized Alex's abilities. Should he intervene if a HYDRA agent took a shot?
That was a dilemma.
If Alex saved him, it would undoubtedly alter the course of future events. Who knew if there would be more super soldiers like Steve?
If he didn't save him, Howard might hold a grudge. After all, Alex owed his survival to Howard, and he might lose a valuable ally in the long run.
....
As soon as he settled into the car, he activated the system.
"Strengthening is completed. Do you wish to integrate?" the system inquired.
Alex was well aware of the significant flaws in Dr. Abraham's super soldier serum. The good would become better, and the bad could become worse. Captain America was a prime example, originally a virtuous figure who became even more heroic after the serum. But what about Red Skull? His ambition had swelled to world-conquering proportions after the serum, making him a formidable adversary.
Furthermore, there was the need for the "light of life" for rapid growth, an energy source Alex couldn't rely on.
The super soldier serum, once enhanced by the system, carried none of these side effects. It wouldn't alter one's character and didn't require the "light of life."
"Integrate," Alex decided firmly.
In an instant, a tingling sensation engulfed his entire body, akin to being submerged in magma. Then, a soothing warmth enveloped him, reminiscent of soaking in a hot spring.
Soon, these sensations subsided, leaving behind a wellspring of newfound strength. Alex couldn't help but curl his lips into a satisfied smile.
"Not bad", Alex couldn't help but smirk.
This time, unlike the X gene, there was no need for a painful ordeal; it was more like breaking a sweat without shedding blood.
However, his satisfaction was short-lived as gunshots erupted from a nearby shop. Alex's gaze quickly zeroed in on the source—a Caucasian man bursting out of a Brooklyn antique store, brandishing a submachine gun.
A military agent pursued him, relentlessly firing shots. The man seemed well-prepared and had a getaway vehicle waiting not far from the shop.
To prevent the military from catching up, the white man made a drastic move, detonating a car—coincidentally, one Alex had boarded.
The explosion roared through the air, a deafening crescendo of chaos.
The explosion was so powerful that it reduced the car to fragments, leaving Alex standing amidst the wreckage, his expression dazed.
"Fuck!" Alex muttered in disbelief.
All the energy from the explosion and the engulfing flames had been absorbed by him, leaving him unharmed. However, there was a bizarre side effect – Alex's entire body had turned pitch black, a darkness so profound it seemed to swallow all light.
Amidst the chaos, he watched as Peggy Carter, gun in hand, fired three rapid shots at a taxi, instantly killing the driver. The man, determined to escape, disposed of the lifeless body and took control of the taxi, making a sharp turn. Peggy, undeterred, fired two more shots, but the agile driver managed to evade them all.
In the midst of this mayhem, Steve, now a super soldier, burst out of the shop. He swiftly pushed Peggy aside and then stood up, striding purposefully toward the fleeing taxi.
As Steve gradually harnessed the newfound power within him, he managed to catch up to the taxi. With a mighty leap, he landed on the roof, gripping it firmly to prevent being thrown off by the speeding vehicle.
Alex wiped his blackened face, his expression shifting from shock to anger. This was nothing short of a catastrophe. He had been so terrified.
Eventhough he had these new powers he was just a regular guy who had transmigrated to marvel less than a week ago. And this sudden explosion rocked his soul.
His heart still raced from the adrenaline rush.
However, the situation had become complicated. Pursuing the scene would undoubtedly lead to questions. A ten-year-old boy with innate strength was one thing, but outrunning a car was another entirely. People would start to wonder.
Even if he was Howard's adopted son, he would surely be subjected to a battalion of tests. If it were discovered that he possessed super soldier genes, it would spell trouble.
As someone who detested trouble, Alex made a calculated decision not to pursue the unfolding chaos. After all, Captain America could handle the situation, right?
Furthermore, Alex was aware of the forthcoming plot development; the HYDRA agent would inevitably resort to poison and meet his end.
