Chapter 28: Dragon Vs Serpent

The attack was powerful enough to reduce the entire city to ashes. The barriers, Marie and Jessie realized, couldn't block it; they had known this well before the attack even occurred. But what could they do?

"Stynom?" Jessie muttered to herself.

Escaping from the place wasn't too difficult for her. However, when she looked back, she saw numerous people trembling because of the conjured fireball in the sky.

"No energy to use the spell on everyone..."

Rather than creating the barrier, if they had used the stynom spell from the start, they would have escaped much more easily and avoided the onslaught.

While Jessie contemplated this, she also realized that creating the barrier was the right choice because they couldn't teleport all the wizards and witches at the same time while the rocks came blasting towards them!

Either way, now that the blast of fire was approaching them, she kept thinking about the teleporting spell. At least, she could save herself...

But before she could take action or make a decision, a loud and powerful explosion grabbed everyone's attention.

Boom!

A bright flash of light followed by clouds of dust appeared right above the barrier. Everyone's gaze was fixed on the cloud, filled with both fear and hope.

As the cloud of dust subsided, a clear picture emerged: a large green-scaled flying serpent hovering in midair.

In comparison to Jorren, it appeared relatively small, but it was still three times the length of any normal adult human.

"That is...?" Jessie was both confused and surprised as she saw the serpent levitating in the air, facing Jorren.

"It saved us," Marie muttered, her eyes wide open in astonishment.

"What? It did!?" Jessie couldn't believe it at first, but she couldn't deny it either when both creatures began attacking each other.

The serpent opened its mouth wide, building up a green flare within.

As for Jorren, who was both arrogant and offended by the serpent's interference, he opened his gigantic mouth, preparing a stronger attack.

Gulp—

Marie and Jessie continued to strengthen the barriers while hoping that the two creatures could neutralize each other. However, at that moment, a voice echoed right behind them.

"These shields can barely contain their power..."

A cold male voice caught their attention, causing both of them to turn around. There, in front of them, stood Lucifer, a smile etched on his face.

"Please, ma'am, why don't you start teleporting the people away from here?" Lucifer suggested, echoing the same idea that had been running through both of their minds all this time.

"It's not possible, we—" Jessie began to argue about the limited magical energy within them when Lucifer interrupted, addressing their doubts and shedding new light on their constrained idea.

"Why teleport to a farther place? Even half a mile from here is safe."

Both Jessie and Marie simply stared at him in silence, completely astonished by him and themselves for missing such a small detail.

"Boy... we can certainly do that! Brilliant idea!" Marie complimented, a bright smile on her face.

Jessie also realized they could escape to a nearby location—it didn't have to be too far!

"He's right..." Jessie smiled and then looked directly into Lucifer's eyes.

The moment she did, it was as if the world had paused for her. She could barely move, as if she had turned into a statue.

"Come on, Jessie, let's do it," Marie called for help as she pointed her wand towards Lucifer first.

"You escape first, boy," Marie said, her wand aimed at Lucifer.

"Sure, why not?" Lucifer chuckled, breaking his gaze.

This caused Jessie to snap out of her trance; she shook her head, confused by what had just happened.

"I—"

Before she could say much, Marie chanted the spell, "Stynom."

In an instant, Lucifer vanished from inside the barrier and appeared a mile away from the place, far from the market area but in an open space.

Seconds later, many other people started to appear around Lucifer. One by one, Marie and Jessie teleported them away without wasting much time.

Marie briefly glanced toward the serpent and the dragon, noticing two differently colored fires moving toward each other.

In the blink of an eye, the two fires collided, causing a massive explosion followed by a shockwave that shook the entire barrier.

BOOM!

Nearby buildings trembled, and a few cracks formed in them. The ground also showed signs of cracking.

'If the attack had hit the barrier... we would have been obliterated!' Marie thought, sweating profusely at the idea. She turned her attention back to the people and continued using the spells continuously.

Meanwhile, Jorren was preparing for another attack.

"Transformation magic, who are you, punk?" Jorren asked as another fireball formed.

"Hiss, why don't you take a guess?"

A green fireball materialized in front of the serpent's mouth, and both creatures were ready to attack again.

"You—" Jorren wanted to express himself and say something, but before he could, something rather peculiar interrupted him.

He felt an unusual presence, overwhelming him and sending chills down his spine. The pressure he experienced was different.

Canceling the fireball, Jorren looked to his left, only to see a few specks of particles engulfed in a red glow, levitating and flying toward him. Taking advantage of his lack of concentration, the serpent unleashed the fireball he had conjured.

"Blast Breath!"

The green fireball soared through the air, cutting through it and striking Jorren's abdomen abruptly.

"Gahh!" he screamed, as the impact of the fireball was so strong that he felt his bones shattering.

Moreover, the attack pushed him high into the sky. As he ascended due to the impact, the pain intensified. It was as if a hole had been drilled into his abdomen, causing him to cough repeatedly. But he couldn't even do that peacefully because his gaze was fixed on the dots slowly coming together.

They formed the silhouette of a man who walked in the sky. Seconds later, a voice erupted, "Quite an odd place for our fight to continue... let's change locations."

With a snap of the fingers, Jorren and the silhouette vanished from the scene.
