The continuous banging on the door made Marissa give up, after making up her mind not to talk to Sasha or any of her family members that might walk through that door to apologize to her, well, that would only mean if they wanted to apologize.
Knowing the likes of her brother, he's going to be the last person to tender an apology to a nobody like her. All this drama was what Marissa has been avoiding, and the point of being pulled into a family drama, that was not the way she planned on making it through this week.
She has been avoiding Sasha's call and text messages since yesterday, luckily for her she didn't show up at work yesterday so it made avoiding her much easier. Since there's a probability that they might talk to each other at work.
It's not Sasha's fault that her brother is a douchebag, but Marissa has a different opinion and right now that she's shivering in broad daylight when the sun is shining brightly, has her worried. She's down with the flu.
Her irregular eating habits, stubborn headaches and unexplained tiredness from doing nothing had her in a bad mood, one that she didn't go to work today. She has been sleeping since morning and its two in the afternoon.
When she looked at herself in the mirror, Marissa could see how of a mess she was. This was not what she planned for, she has been skipping work a lot, and she knew that Mr.Peters generosity would certainly end soon if it continues this way.
She looked at the stack of bills, water bills, electricity bills and a whole lot that needed her to take care of, and right now being sick was wearing her down from doing her responsibility.
She had concluded that this was as a result of what she ate at Sasha's family house, so, she didn't put much thought on it and bought medications for the headaches, but it still wasn't stopping.
"Marissa, open up. We need to talk please." Sasha pleaded for the fifth time, to which Marissa covered herself up with the blanket before going to open the door slightly.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, trying to keep her weight on her toes but when she relaxed on the door and Sasha's concerned gaze ran through her frame, she knew that something was wrong.
"Are you okay?" Sasha asked worriedly, she could hardly remember when Marissa was like this, and judging from her face she wasn't crying either. She just looked drained.
"I'm fine." Marissa insisted, moving away from the door for her to pass through, and went for her hot coffee, while Sasha took in the frame of her messed up apartment.
"Look, I'm sorry about the way my brother treated you, he's a…" Sasha tried explaining, but it was a nuisance to Marissa. Her talking made her headache get worse, since she didn't want to hear anything about the last two days.
"I'm fine, no need to apologize." Marissa said, swiftly, turning to sit on her cushion but a wave of fatigue ran through her that made her nearly fall, but Sasha was in cue to hold her down.
"Woah! Girl, what's wrong with you?" She asked, this time a lot hella worried about her, but knowing what Marissa was capable of doing, since she didn't want to be a burden to anyone. She tried to stand up on her feet.
"I said am fine." Marissa half yelled, but before she could do anything, Sasha had touched her temple.
"Yo! Marissa, you are burning up."
"Just help me to my room." Marissa asked of her, before she leaned on Sasha who helped her to her room, then rushed to her bathroom for a bowl of water and towels.
"We need to get you to the hospital." Sasha suggested, and the look Marissa gave her was enough for her to close her mouth.
Ever since her father's death, after watching him taken into the hospital where none of the doctors are able to do anything but conclude that he was dead as they brought him in, she hasn't been a fan of hospitals.
"You know i can't go there, I just need to rest. I will be fine once i do that." She said, trying to turn on her left hand side to avoid looking at Sasha.
Knowing who she was, she wouldn't be able to calm down until she's sure enough that she's asleep. But then, sleep was not an option when she was dragged up by her." Stand up, I'm calling our family's doctor. He's going to know what to…"
The anger that ran through Marissa hearing her bring up her family again, was enough to make the headache accelerate higher. Rather, she took the phone from Sasha and threw it on the couch.
"Can you please just stop it!" She yelled.
"I'm just trying to help, I don't know what to do in this type of cases, Marisa, I…"
"And you think calling your family's doctor would help? Doesn't it ever cross your mind that you talk too much about your family like they are such a big thing, for crying out loud Sasha, I just need space from what your brother did, and now hearing you talk about…" Marissa stopped, trying to catch her breath, as Sasha was almost crying.
"I just want to help. I'm sorry if i hurt you, Marisa." She apologized, feeling bad for bringing up her family, knowing how sensitive the topic was to her.
"You did nothing, Sasha, you are just…" Marisa tried explaining, but choked on her words when she felt like vomiting.
"What's wrong?" Sasha asked, coming close to her, but when she got that feeling again she pushed her aside before rushing for her bathroom and throwing up everything in her guts into the toilet.
Sasha stood outside, trying to calculate what exactly was wrong with her.
When she was done wiping her mouth clean, to find Sasha in a world of her own.
"I don't feel good, Sasha." She said, rubbing her tummy, before she got the feeling again and rushed back to the bathroom.
"Here." Sasha said, offering her a cup of water which she took from her, mumbling a thanks to her before coming out to sit down on a chair.
"Care to explain what that was?" Sasha's question made her raise her brow in confusion.
"What exactly are you trying to say?" She asked.
"Your sickness is not just any sickness, Marissa. You are throwing up."Sasha said, trying hard not to believe that this was not what her mind was telling her that this is.
"Well, because this is a stomach issue, I ate at your house, remember?"
"Since when do you suddenly have a stomach reaction to food, you are foodie, Marissa. You literally eat everything." Sasha reminded her, which made her chuckle, before rolling her eyes at her.
"Yet i am not fat, so that's a good thing." She said, running her hands through her hair, before going for her phone but stopped by Sasha's question.
"When last did you see your period?" Sasha asked, making Marissa's heart sink. She did the calculation in her head to realize that she's two weeks late.
"I'm.. i..I'm two weeks late, but it can be anything. There's a time i got my period late, remember?"
"Late by two days, to which the doctor we went to concluded that it was just stress, but two days is not two weeks, Marissa." Sasha said, coming forward with that look on her face that made her understand what that was.
"No..no, stop, Sasha." She said, standing up." I can't be pregnant,we.. he used a condom." She blurted out.
"Condoms aren't all that effective." Sasha added.
"No, I'm not pregnant. I can't be pregnant, Sasha. I can barely take care of myself, what should i do with a kid,I can't.." she cried, but Sasha hugged her.
"It's okay, Marissa. I'm here, whatever step you decide to take, I'm here for you."Sasha said, cleaning her tears.
"No, you don't understand, Sasha. I..I don't even know his name, I can't be a single mother, this is all just confusing." Marissa said, bending down to her knees before bawling her eyes out, with Sasha at her side trying to calm her down but then what's down has been done.
She's pregnant by a complete stranger.
