Race: Goblin Element: Earth

----------------

The lowest class of warriors. This card is from a starter deck. It has extremely low Attack and Defense stats. You should take this card out of your deck as soon as possible.

----------------

“Equip! Equip!” He shouted as he held cards in his hand. The cards then transformed into a short dagger and a small shield for him to equip.

Player: Tanthai

Equipment: Short Dagger, Small Shield

Summon: Apprentice Warrior, Apprentice Mage

The Apprentice Warrior charged towards the goblin before them, then swung his sword to the latter. The damage dealt was only a single digit. Beside Tanthai was the mage casting magic. The enemy returned the favor with only punches.

“12!”

“11!”

Damage appeared above the Apprentice Warrior. Seeing what had happened, Tanthai ran to his warrior, but it was at the same time another goblin appeared, running towards him. He had no choice but to block the new challenger.

“5!

“6!”

This was what he could do to the goblin. His opponent then attacked him back with punches.

“12!”

“10!”

He would die soon if it went like this. Tan activated one of the cards he had in hand which consumed 1 MP from the remaining 3.

“Item!” His voice thundered as he activated the card. His HP immediately regained by 40 points.

He was still in crisis. It was then that the Apprentice Warrior got killed, leaving behind the goblin it fought against who was now rushing to the Apprentice Mage as the latter was still casting magic.

Flame emerged from the mage’s staff. A fireball then flew to the rushing opponent and burned him alive...

“45!”

The goblin disintegrated into spheres of light.

“Awesome, burn that one too!” He gave a command and pointed at another goblin.

It did not go as planned. The mage did not cast magic. He found out why as soon as he saw its status bar. The Apprentice Mage had a very low MP to begin with and it had been all consumed.

“Guess I have to take care of this myself,” he said as he ran to the goblin and challenged it with his dagger. His HP soon reduced to less than half, so he activated one of the two remaining cards.

“Magic!” The card in his hand transformed into a fireball, then flew to the goblin right in front…

“37!”

Though the damage was lower than the apprentice mage’s fireball, it was enough to successfully blow away the weakest monster in the game.

Fire: Beginner Level ¶

----------------

Attacks with a small-sized fireball, deals damage depends on the user’s magic power.

----------------

Player Tanthai has received 70 EXP, a 1-star Goblin card, and 70 Gil. The player’s level has risen from 1 to 2.

After the battle had ended, he noticed that his MP still sat at 2, but his max HP and MP had increased to 105 and 8, respectively. He then recalled that to recover HP, MP, and SP, he had either simply just waited or gone to a really expensive hotel. And, of course…

…A newbie like him chose to wait.

He spent his time wandering around the town, waiting for his stats to recover. There were shops, NPCs, hotels, and a teleport service…the last one made his eyes widen.

He walked up to an NPC at the teleport point. “Go to Pieta, how much?” Tan asked.

The NPC, who was wearing a cone-shaped hat like that of a wizard’s, replied, “To Pieta, 200,000 Gil.”

He was stunned…

His face turned pale…

Filled with shock, he then gulped…

He had no idea a teleport fee in this game would be shockingly expensive. The reason behind this is to keep players from traveling to places unsuitable for them.

“You want a map?” The same NPC asked. If he recalled correctly, somewhere in the manual stated that the NPCs in this game are controlled by their employees—some might even take control of multiple NPCs.

“How much?” Getting aware of the teleport fee, he was hesitant to ask.

“50 Gil.”

He sighed with relief and replied, “I’ll take one, Uncle.”

“60 Gil,” said the NPC.

Tan immediately turned to the NPC. “You said 50.” He turned solemn.

“Extra charge for addressing me as Uncle.”

Tan narrowed his eyes and looked at the wizard-like NPC. “Are you kidding me?” The NPC shook his head.

“NPCs in this game can make their own decision. If you don’t buy it now, I’ll charge you 100 Gil the next time you visit.”

He immediately handed 60 Gil to the NPC and quickly took the map. “This is nonsense.” He muttered. As he was about to turn and walk away, the NPC spoke.

“Here’s the change.” He tossed back 10 Gil as he said. “What kind of game would let NPCs do as they please? Don’t be so gullible. You’d get in trouble because of that!” He said, trying hard not to laugh.

Tanthai heaved a sigh then replied, “That’s quite clever…Grandpa.” He emphasized the word.

The NPC shook his head. “Now you call me Grandpa. It’s alright though. Being placed here in the rural area is killing me,” said the NPC.

After that, Tan checked the map. He was shocked by what he found…

Pieta and this village, which had a blue dot indicating where he was, were on the opposite sides of the world…!

“How unlucky I am.” He muttered as he walked out of the village to take out his anger on goblins residing at the East Plain.

He was going to unleash his frustration on the monsters in the area. A goblin finally appeared. Tan immediately attacked the monster, but it was then that an announcement sounded.

“Amateur Gambler’s skill activated…”

Tan heard that loud and clear, but he was not sure how the skill worked. With a terrible look, he drew his first seven cards.

“It seems like I’m in trouble now.” He said as he saw the cards he drew—two daggers, a staff, and two potions. There was only one monster card.

And it was an Apprentice Warrior…

“Summon! Equip!” He activated his cards. An Apprentice Warrior and a dagger materialized into being.

The Apprentice Warrior charged the goblin. Tanthai was going to join but suddenly stopped himself momentarily as he saw his own stats.

HP 8

MP 105

SP 2

“What?!” He screamed and paused his legs which almost led him to death. His HP and MP were swapped. Though he had more than enough MP, with this HP, he was going to die after a single touch by enemies. He started thinking and then recalled what the announcement had informed him.

“This was the effect of the Amateur Gambler Job’s skill. I almost died.” He muttered to himself and turned his gaze towards the Apprentice Warrior whose remaining HP was less than half.

“Item!” Tan activated a health potion card to recover the warrior’s health. The battle appeared easy at first, but suddenly the tide had turned. Another goblin ran to him and joined the fight.

“No, no, no, no.” He shook his head in frustration. He could not help the Apprentice Warrior and had no choice but to activate another potion card to help the warrior fight against two goblins.

“Item!” The warrior’s HP had fully recovered as its rusty sword pierced through the first goblin, disintegrating it into spheres of light.

“This looks bad,” said Tanthai. He was right because as the two kept fighting, the warrior was going to die first, and the cards he had were of no use.

He did not have to wait that long before…the Apprentice Warrior was executed in less than a minute.

“Darn it!” He screamed as he saw the goblin turn towards him. Tanthai pondered very quickly to see how he could survive, and eventually got himself an answer…

Run! Run as fast as you could!

He turned and ran away, but the goblin followed close behind him. Luck was not on his side as he found another goblin standing in his way.

“Draw…”

The system voice rang out as a new card was drawn…It was the card that came to save this newbie.

“Summon!”
