Capítulo 4: Unpleasant Occurrence - 2

His eyes opened wide as he approached the hospital. "Your boys?" Carl asked. If he hadn't been paying close attention to her, he would have missed what she had said.

"My boys…" the woman said again.

"Where are they?" Carl asked in a hurried and concerned tone. "Should we go and get them? Tell me where they are and we'd drive there right now."

She burst into tears and wailed. Her wails were so loud that Carl cringed a bit. The woman threw her head backward and that was when the mane of hair that encompassed her face gave way for Carl to see that she was a beautiful woman. However, she was malnourished and looked like she hadn't had anything to eat in months.

'Where was her husband?' Carl wondered. But he didn't ask that. "Where are your boys, Madam?"

"G-Gone…" she replied, raking her fingers into her hair and pulling at her hair in a manner that looked excruciating.

This was the first time that she had replied to a question that she was asked. Carl felt hopeful. He turned off the car's engine and got down from the driver's side. Carl hurried to the side that he'd belted her in and opened the door.

"Where did they go to?" Carl asked.

The scream that escaped her mouth was such that she'd seen something horror and Carl's hand went to his ear but he immediately unbelted her and carried her out of the car.

Quickly, he ran to the entrance of the hospital and some nurses joined him there asking questions about who she was and what had happened.

"I rescued her from the road where she was almost hit by a car," Carl said.

"Was she hit?" one of the nurses asked as they placed her in a wheelchair while she kept on screaming and pulling at her hair.

"No, but she was sitting in the middle of the road as if she was lost or had set herself up to be hit…"

"What's her name?" another nurse asked.

"I don't know…"

" Who are you to her?" came another question.

"I don't know her, " Carl said. "I just brought her here... It seems like she needs some medical attention."

"We have to calm her down, first," one of the nurses said and they all agreed.

"Please wait here, sir," the first nurse said and while the others wheeled her away, the nurse said; "Thank you… we would keep you posted about what's going on…"

"I'm Carl," he called after the nurse as he watched them walk away. Carl nodded, turned around, and walked to the waiting area. He glanced at his wristwatch and pondered on going or waiting. What use did he have here? It was not like he could answer any questions about the woman. Carl looked around and took a seat, then he decided that it was probably best for him to wait. He wanted to know what was wrong with the woman and above all, if she'd be alright.

What seemed like one hour passed and Carl walked to the vending machine that was in a corner of the waiting room and got out a soda and a snack. Then, he heard his name being called behind him and quickly rushed to where he'd been sitting previously.

"Yes?…"

It was the nurse that had thanked him earlier and she had a pleasant look on her face and wore a small smile. "She's stable now. But we had to tranquilize her a little."

"Really?" Carl asked rhetorically. "Why was she so hysterical, though? What was wrong with her? She was pulling at her hair and her eyes were focused on nothing," Carl said, almost breathlessly. Seeing the woman in that condition had shaken him and he was not one to get rattled easily. But he'd experienced this first hand and it wasn't a pleasant occurrence.

"I think she went through some sort of trauma…which has affected her mentally…"

"Seemed like it…" Carl responded.

"However, just before she went under, she seemed to have come to a little. So, we are hopeful that she'd be able to shed light on what had happened to her when she comes around."

"When would that be?" Carl asked with concern.

"I wouldn't know for sure…" the nurse replied. "We are going to allow her to sleep for some time so that her mind can have some rest at least.

"Hmm…"

"How can we get to her family though? Do you have an idea about that?"

Carl shook his head. He was clueless as he'd never seen the woman before in his life.

"I found a wallet on her…" the nurse said. "Her name is Caitlin…Caitlin Wood. As for her address… we'd wait on that until she comes to. We have to know it's safe for us to speak about where she lives. I hope you understand…"

"Sure...Sure I do," Carl said, nodding his head. He dipped his hand in his breast pocket and got out a pen and a sticky note paper. Carl scribbled his number on the note and handed it to the nurse.

"Please… do call, in case of anything at all. Call me."

The nurse glanced at the paper, folded it, and slipped it into her pocket. She nodded and walked away.

Carl clamped his hands together, rubbing against each other then put them into his pockets. He walked out of the hospital and back to his car. He had been out for quite a while but Carl seemed a little relieved as this incident had caused his mind to steer off Michelle and her lies. Thinking about going back to his house now, Carl wasn't elated about the idea. However, he needed to see his girls and at the thought of Kim and Kendra, he recalled the woman wailing for her boys.

His brows creased. Had they been taken away from her? Perhaps by their father? Maybe there was trouble in the home. Carl shrugged as he concluded that everyone had things that they were dealing with. He started his car engine and drove out of the hospital's parking lot.
