Capítulo 13: The one lurking in the shadows

Reina walked down the stairs after her long rest. She found them at the dinner table. Donald offered for her to join them, she took a seat beside Waylen, facing Gael. He did so much to avoid her gaze.

"Gael, have you seen Reina ever since you returned?" Rowan asked mockingly.

Gael paused his hands, then continued to cut through the meat on his plate "She was asleep at the time."

"Well, she is up now."

"Rowan!" Donald called for him to stop, he knew where his son was getting at.

"Excuse me." Gael said, he got up, stopped to look at Reina "I hope you had a good rest" he said and walked away.

Reina stared at his back, that is the nicest he has ever been with her. He didn't make a joke about how she easily got kidnapped. "What happened to my parents?" she asked.

She had thought long about it, how did everything unfold, she planned to ask them tomorrow but, she couldn't wait anymore, was it Silas's fault? did he cause this? Who was behind it. Because she is very sure Silas doesn't have the power to create such havoc. She knew he was sent. Yes, but, by whom?

Reina looked between the brothers and father sitting at the table "Don't hide things from me. I deserve to know what happened."

Donald nodded in agreement "After dinner, walk with me. I'll explain everything" he said to calm her down for the mean time.

Reina then dropped her fork, gulping down the cup of water, she gently placed the cup on the table, so as to not break it with the grip she had on it.

Momets later, Reina and Donald headed out into the palaces garden. The air is refreshing and cold with the smell of wet grass and the wet earth, the leaves swayed, whistling in the wind. It's cloudy yet again.

The princess walked alongside Donald with a cold expression on her face. Although it was clear, Reina was trying to contain her anger. Despite her urgent need to end him there and there, she attempted to maintain the persona of a hopeless and clueless princess who misses her parents.

" So?" She started "what happened?"

Donald looked at her with a small smile then at the sky then back to the space in front of him.

"Your parents, Reina" He paused, "We don't know if they are alive or not" He continued walking in a small pace as his long strides could be twice the walk for Reina.

Reina stared blankly at him "If you are not aware of what situation they are in, why did you take my father's place as King."

"Oh no, no, my dear. No one can take your father's place"

"Yet, you seat on his Throne, in his Palace!" Reina struck, her anger spilling out "You have confirmed them dead, as you did me." She stated, stopping in her steps.

"You were gone with no trace Reina!" He exclaimed.

"So, you are telling me, you have leads on where they might be?"

"I am saying, we know where they were headed before their disappearance."

"That makes absolutely no sense, your Highness."

"It is 'Your Majesty' to you, young lady" He calmly corrected.

"I forbade myself from ever calling you that. You have no right!" She declared.

"I have every right to be King. Zeus is dead and so is your mother you..." He sparked as he wasn't enjoying the disrespect coming from Reina.

"I am not dead, and we all know whose rightful place that is?" She had always despised and hated this man standing in front of her. Reina knew that Donald knew she hated him, which made her even angrier.

"You were an heir to this Kingdom, but not anymore. not until you decided to run away with some man, faking your death." Donald mocked, he was in deep thought as to why he was arguing with a child.

Reina was furious to the point she raised her hand to hit him, but he gripped it, smirking "You do not raise your hands to your King." Frowning and flinging her hands aside. He turned back heading towards where they had just come from.

"Plus, even if your parents were alive, i know too well that the people of this Kingdom would not want to be ruled by a mere child. To top it off..." He looked over his shoulder to see her back "A woman" His voice mocking, before he continued walking, going back into the castle.

So, he did have a hand in her parent's death. Reina thought. She knew he was evil but didn't expect him to stoop so low to murder them, disperse their bodies and make it seem like they just went missing. Bringing her hand into a fist, she almost injured her palms with her fingers digging into them. Reina did her best to calm her nerves, and slowly, she did calm down.

Gael stood behind a large tree, listening to their entire conversation. He had followed them all the way and his guesses were right. Reina was unto them. She probably knew something they don't. And now aside his siblings, she's a major threat to the chances he has of becoming King. He knew that she might never be crowned leader, but deep down he feels threatened by her. She looks different, not physically, but her aura felt different. She looked like someone new, not the old Reina he knew. Now all he does is lurk behind trees and other things that could hide his shadows, following her, waiting and hoping to see who her backbone was. Who her ally is. Standing there longer than he should, he didn't notice anything else, so he slipped away silently.

...

Reina stood there for a very long while, she heard thunderclaps, which meant a storm was coming, it wasn't that bright anyway. Soon the rain poured heavily, so did her tears, she stood there drenched and cold, yet she refused to move.

...

Ares stood by the balcony, staring ahead at the form standing unmoving under the rain, it was a woman standing there. He scrunched his eyes. Reina? arching his brows in confusion, why is she standing there? Isn't she cold from the rain?

He went back in to drag Lydia out. Lydia was trying to release herself from the grip he had on her wrist. Ares let her go, pointing ahead. Confused, Lydia followed his finger with her eye, and her eyes widened.

"Is... that the Princess?"
