Capítulo 2: Mission Start

Haoyu wasn't entirely sure how he felt regarding the mission he saw on the screen, not because he considered it difficult, just one that would probably challenge his mental state. Don't get him wrong, he had a strong mind, this mission was just that bad.

The world that the mission was located in was quite familiar to him, as he had seen it before in the form of anime back in his old reality. He personally wasn't the biggest fan of it, mainly because he himself wasn't that much into gore.

Haoyu knew just how bloody and gory the world of Tokyo Ghoul could be, even if he had honestly only watched the first two seasons. Because of that, he naturally knew just who this Yakumo Oomori was, a sadistic and merciless ghoul who thrived in the suffering of others.

More specifically, Jason or Yamori, names that Yakumo Oomori also goes by, took pleasure in torturing others over a prolonged period of time. Torturing them in the cruellest and most painful ways possible, truly someone that Haoyu could never get along with.

For someone as sadistic as him, a world like Tokyo Ghoul was just perfect for him.

After all, it was a world full of cannibalistic humanoid creatures who are arguably walking along a fine line in their morality. Not all ghouls want to eat their own kind, some only do so because they have to, or others because they're forced to.

In other words, it was a shitty world.

"The nature of the world aside, it shouldn't pose much of a threat to me..." Haoyu sighed to himself as he focused back on reality, the menu disappearing from his mind as he did so. "And if the difficulty rating is linear, then all C-Level missions should be just as easy for me."

Although ghouls were far superior to regular humans, he himself too was far superior to the average human. He'd consider himself a veteran when it came to being a Pathstrider, despite having only recently arrived in this world. Taking down ghouls shouldn't be too difficult.

"The question now is when to go... should I just get it over with?"

He had honestly considered just waiting for the mission to refresh, mainly because he hated the idea of walking through a field of guts, but he just sucked it up. He'd probably eventually encounter similar situations, so might as well get used to it early.

"Diviner Haoyu, are you in there? I want a rematch!"

Haoyu's thoughts were suddenly interrupted when a rather familiar voice entered his ears, to which he rose an eyebrow before giving a small tired sigh. Pushing himself up from his bed, Haoyu calmly made his way to the door.

Upon opening the door, Haoyu looked down to see a young man who couldn't be any older than ten staring up at him with a challenging look in his eyes, along with a small smirk donning his face.

The male had relatively long blonde hair tied back into a ponytail, along with his eyes sharing a similar shade of gold to his hair. His outfit mainly consisted of white, black and blue colours. White underneath and a robe-like piece of clothing over the top.

"You came all the way here to the Divination Commission to challenge me?"

"Of course I did! A swordsman cannot allow himself to become rusty, thus a suitable challenge is necessary!" The male responded with a nod of his head while crossing his arms over his chest. "You are one of few who I have yet to surpass. After some training, I'm ready to claim my victory over you!"

This young man was Yanqing, the lieutenant of the Luofu Cloud Knights.

Haoyu had only met him by mere coincidence sometime in the past, only having been officially introduced to the kid by the general a few weeks ago. During that time, he had sparred a number of times with the kid.

From Yanqing's words alone, you could probably guess how each of those spars ended.

"You sound pretty confident, Yanqing. However, is that confidence of yours misplaced?" Haoyu smirked slightly as his words seemed to rile up the kid a bit. "Very well, I accept your challenge. Show me how much you've improved."

●●●●●●●●●●●●

At the present time, Haoyu and Yanqing had moved to a more open area within the Divination Commission. Since there weren't too many people around right now, having a little spar here shouldn't be much of a problem.

The both of them were standing a few meters apart from one another, staring each other in the eyes without blinking. Yanqing unsheathed his sword before getting into his stance, while Haoyu had his parasol resting on his shoulder as his mouth remained in a neutral position.

"Come at me whenever you wish."

"Don't underestimate me! Let's go!"

Haoyu watched calmly as Yanqing dashed towards him at incredible speed, appearing before him in what could be described as a blink of an eye. However, Haoyu was not affected as he calmy shift his hand holding the parasol.

A clinging sound of metallic materials striking each other soon sounded through the area, which upon closer inspection, could be seen to have originated from the collision of Yanqing's sword and the handle of the parasol.

Yanqing gritted his teeth as he tried to break through, though found no advance in his movements as the sword continued to struggle to push back Haoyu's parasol. Eventually, he retreated back with a few quick jumps.

"You'll have to try better than that." Haoyu smiled slightly as he shifted his hand back into its original position where his parasol returned to its original resting position. "Or is that all the improvement you made, Yanqing?"

The boy didn't give a verbal response, instead clenching his teeth a bit before charging forward once more. This time, Yanqing delivered a quick succession of fast strikes. Haoyu readjusted his stance before parrying each and every strike sent at him.

Unlike most parasols, Haoyu's was made of very strong material, so every time it collided with Yanqing's sword, the sound of metal colliding could be heard with each collision. Narrowing his eyes, Haoyu suddenly opened his parasol, catching Yanqing off guard before performing a quick leg sweep.

The attack made Yanqing stumble severely, though managed to recover time to kick to the ground, narrowing avoiding behind hit by a swing that Haoyu performed with his now open parasol. Yanqing skidded to a stop before gritting his teeth.

"You still focus way too much on what is CURRENTLY happening, you don't pay attention to anything that COULD happen." Haoyu smiled as he said this. "Your feet were completely unguarded, you only focused solely on our weapons."

".." Yanqing didn't know how to respond to that, mainly because he knew Haoyu was right. Otherwise, he wouldn't have made such a fatal mistake just now. He knew Haoyu held back in that swing, a swing he easily could've made hit if he wanted to. "I'm not finished yet!"

Yanqing lowered his stance as a number of blades composed of ice suddenly formed around him, each releasing a dense frosty air as they seemed to orbit around Yanqing. Pointing his sword forwards, the blades flew quickly towards Haoyu.

"Don't go too crazy there, don't want the Master Diviner coming back and seeing the Divination Commission in a wreck."

Closing his parasol, Haoyu moved his feet for once as he calmly dashed around while smashing every blade of ice that tried to strike him. He did so with a swing of his closed parasol, each blade shattering into shards after being hit.

"There's more where that came from!"

Shifting his eyes slightly, Haoyu saw a number of other blades quickly shooting towards him. This time, they all seemed to scatter in an arc formation before coming down onto him like a pincer. Haoyu's lips curled up slightly before he casually opened his parasol.

"This isn't nearly enough to take me down!" Haoyu raised his voice before swinging his parasol in an arc horizontally around himself, destroying each of the incoming ice blades just as they were only a few moments away from hitting. "And you... are too slow."

"Wh-What?!"

Haoyu smirked as he looked down to see Yanqing behind him, in a position where the kid had swung his blade horizontally towards his stomach area. However, Yanqing's sword was blocked by the handle of Haoyu's parasol where the tip of the parasol was now stabbed into the ground after having destroyed those blades.

"It was an impressive sneak attack, disguising a weaker attack with a stronger one. Most people would've fallen for it..." Haoyu seemed to praise as his eyes seemed to now emit a dark bluish-purple spark. "However, such an attack won't work against me."

Before Yanqing could say anything, Haoyu's parasol suddenly gave off a dense glow that was the same in colour as his eyes. Soon enough, Yanqing was stunned when he found himself pushed back violently by a shockwave of power originating from the parasol.

Crashing onto his back, Yanqing found himself unable to get up when Haoyu suddenly stabbed his parasol next to Yanqing's head.

"Also, the power of Quantum isn't so easy to deal with."

"..." Yanqing glanced down at his hand to see that it seemed to have taken the brunt of the shockwave. It now looked as if it was glitching a bit while covered by a blue and purple glow. With a sigh, Yanqing slowly got up with Haoyu's help. "Quantum is seriously so unfair..."

"Don't make excuses for your loss, even if it's true." Haoyu commented lightly as Yanqing felt his eyebrow twitch after hearing it. "Your hand will return to normal soon enough, so I wouldn't worry about it."

Haoyu wasn't sure entirely how or why he was capable of utilising the power of Quantum, but he wasn't complaining. Maybe it was something to do with being a diviner, after all, for some reason all the diviners he personally knew like Qingque and Fu Xuan were all Quantum users.

"You didn't use divination to see through my attack, did you?" Yanqing narrowed his eyes suspiciously after asking this question. In response, Haoyu merely gave a smile before crossing his arms. "That would explain being able to see through such a sneak attack!"

"Don't make assumptions, Yanqing. Using divination in a spar is not in good taste, I blocked it simply because you were too slow." Haoyu responded calmly while also adding a bit of an insult in there, earning an irked look from Yanqing. "In any case, you lose this time as well."

Although unhappy, Yanqing could only sing helplessly as he accepted his loss.

"I'm not giving up!" Yanqing quickly shouted. "I'll continue to train until I can defeat not only you but also the general!"

"If you say so, I have things to do though. I wish you the best of luck."

Without saying anything else, Haoyu began walking back towards his bedroom while Yanqing simply watched him go. However, before Haoyu could get too far, Yanqing quickly raised his voice once more before shouting.

"You better be prepared! I'll challenge you again!"

Haoyu didn't give a response, at least not a verbal one. Instead, he gave a small wave with his left hand without turning around.

●●●●●●●●●●●●

The rest of the day wasn't too eventful, he had some minor business within the Matrix of Prescience but nothing much. After finishing with whatever work Fu Xuan had for him there, he had the rest of the day to himself.

As for what he was going to do with it?

...

『Do you wish to start the mission?』

『Yes』『No』

Haoyu didn't hesitate to click on the 'Yes' option, and upon doing so, he watched as the world around him quickly shifted in colour before everything became greyed out to the extreme. He couldn't hear any sounds, at least any that he himself didn't make.

"I guess this is the time dilation in effect..." Haoyu muttered to himself as he recalled the system's information. If memory served him right, then time should currently be five times slower than usual. "I'm not sure what time period I'll be thrown into, but as long as Jason's near, then my disappearance shouldn't be noticed."

That is... as long as he got the job done quickly.

Walking over towards the bedside table, he picked up a small cup that he had drunk from before. However, when he did try and pick it up, he noticed the strong resistance. Looking closer, he could see that it was indeed being picked up, but moved in response to his actions five times slower than it should.

He wasn't surprised by this, it seemed that only he was unaffected by the slow down. Soon enough, Haoyu heard a dinging sound ring through his mind.

『Preparing for teleportation』

『Please standby』

『...』

『Teleporting now』

『Mission start』

Just like that, Haoyu watched as a circular rift of sorts appeared in the empty space of his room, and before he could do anything, he found his entire body forcefully sucked in without resistance. More specifically, he felt no power to resist.
