The border area between the Land of Rivers and the Land of Wind is a treacherous place for any shinobi hesitate to venture into.
Nonetheless, a group of five Leaf ninjas manages to infiltrate the enemy territory by utilizing a deadly tactic: killing and impersonating some sand ninjas.
Before long, they take on the deceased shinobis' clothes and dispose of their bodies, hoping to blend in with the rest of the sand ninjas and proceed with their mission seamlessly.
Shikaku speaks up in reassurance: "We should be safe here. There are no Konoha patrols around. If we disguise these sand uniforms, we won't attract any unwanted attention from our allies."
Meanwhile, Fugaku nods his agreement, trusting Inoichi's sensory skills the most.
Putting on his sand forehead protector, Fugaku speaks, "Don't worry; our main goal is to locate their base and retreat without drawing any suspicion. I will handle everything else from there."
Orochimaru, who had also put on his sand forehead protector, seemed quite pleased and chuckled to himself, "Kekeke, this is a barren desert. There is nothing but sand as far as the eye can see. Even at night, the enemies can spot us with ease."
Not one to compromise the mission due to terrain, Fugaku quickly nodded his agreement. "You are right. That's why I brought Inoichi along."
Once they had finished disguising themself, they nodded to each other before running in the direction of the Land of Wind.
Orochimaru follows Fugaku from behind with a grin on his face, eager to see how the man would fight.
Inoichi stops every now and then to sense their surroundings with his eyes closed. They soon infiltrate the deep sand territory, but Inoichi senses something and warns them.
"There are two enemies under the sand at ten o'clock, about 300 meters away."
He says this, surprising Fugaku, who looks at Inoichi. He is squatting next to him and sensing carefully.
In the past, Inoichi always used gestures to indicate the presence or absence of enemies to avoid making any noise.
Fugaku wonders how he communicates telepathically but then realizes that it is an amazing skill that allows them to talk to each other.
"Only two? Let me handle them." Orochimaru chuckles.
Fugaku nods. "Go ahead, but leave one alive."
Inoichi hands him something, which turns out to be duct tape. Orochimaru takes it and rolls his eyes. He has never used this thing before.
Two sand ninjas are hiding under the desert sand, their voices low as they complain.
"Ugh, this is the worst. Why couldn't those Konoha guys attack us already? It's the middle of the night, and we have to guard here? What are they thinking up there?" One of the ninjas grumbles.
"I know, right? This place sucks. Who in their right mind would want to start a fight here?" the other ninja adds with a sigh.
A silence passes between them before the first ninja speaks again, addressing the question that has been bugging him.
"It's been weeks since we've seen any Konoha ninjas cross the Land of Wind's borders. Do you think we're wasting our time here?"
The second ninja shakes his head. "We have no choice. It's war, after all. We can't let our guard down."
Suddenly, the ground vibrates as someone walks, confirming his suspicions that one of them had asked.
"Do you feel that?" the first ninja whispers, and his companion nods.
"Someone's coming."
"I'll go out and check," the first ninja decides. "You stay here and wait for the right moment."
"Okay, no problem," the second ninja says, settling back into the sand.
Meanwhile, Orochimaru slowly creeps towards the location that Inoichi has sensed. When he arrives, he pretends to be tired and worn out.
A sand ninja emerges from the ground and impatiently questions, "Hey, what are you doing here so late? Go back to the base."
Orochimaru feigns surprise and answers in a raspy voice, "Oh, it's you. I was just resting. I'll leave after a short break."
The sand ninja narrows his eyes suspiciously when he notices Orochimaru's pale skin, which is completely out of place for someone who lives in the desert.
"Who are you? Whose team do you belong to? Why are you still here?" he demanded.
Standing up, Orochimaru put on a serious expression and dramatically declared, "Lord Kazekage sent me to infiltrate the Land of Fire and gather intelligence. I discovered something shocking. Do you want to hear it?"
Confused yet curious, the sand ninja hesitates before answering, "What is it?"
Orochimaru remains silent for a moment, then in a hushed tone, he asks, "If you're curious, why don't you let your companion hear it too?"
The sand ninja is taken aback then he realizes that Orochimaru must have known there were two of them on patrol.
He deduces that Orochimaru must be suna shinobi, given that only their team is aware of the change in patrol numbers.
Unaware of Orochimaru's true intentions, he has no clue his intention. Little does he know that Orochimaru has a powerful sensor ninja with him.
Realizing they have been exposed to Orochimaru, the second sand ninja decides to reveal himself.
another sand ninja emerges from the sand and asks, "What is the news?"
Orochimaru flashes a sly smile and takes a step closer to the sand ninja. He leans in and whispers into his ear, "The Uchiha clan leader is coming to attack our base tonight."
"What?!" The sand ninja can't believe what he is hearing. He laughs, thinking it is an absurd joke. "You mean the Uchiha clan leader? By himself?"
Even though he knows the notorious reputation of the Uchiha clan head, it still seems implausible for him to attack alone.
Orochimaru's smirked as he replies, "No. There are five of them."
In a split second, Orochimaru unsheathes a kunai and drives it through the sand ninja's heart.
"Wh… What? You…"
The sand ninja's eyes widen in shock and horror. He falls to the ground without a sound, unable to comprehend what has just happened.
The other sand ninja watching nearby sees his comrade fall and doesn't want to stick around. He bolts out of sight, intending to warn his comrades of the impending danger.
"Many Hidden Shadow Snake Hands!"
But Orochimaru is quick to respond, sending snakes crawling out of his hands that grip the sand ninja and bring him down to the ground. The snakes bite his joints, immobilizing him.
He tries to scream, but Orochimaru covers his mouth with tape.
Orochimaru shakes his head. "I don't like this thing."
