Capítulo 8: Teleport again

After Wendy left, Jake continued his running exercise and then returned to his rented house. Recently, he had been doing barbecue, and during the day, Jake had to skewer various vegetables and meats, which was a time-consuming task. Although Jake only rented a room, the house itself was a three-bedroom apartment, with the other rooms vacant. There was a refrigerator in the living room since no one else lived there. Jake stored the groceries he bought in the refrigerator, and since his business was not extensive, the small refrigerator was sufficient.

"If I could bring out some vegetables and meats from that space, I wouldn't have to buy them. The cost would be reduced," Jake thought as he worked. It was indeed a good idea. Since he could bring out chicken from that space, naturally, he should be able to bring out other things as well. However, he didn't know enough about that space and wasn't sure if he could get those ingredients.

As for whether the ingredients would be edible, Jake wasn't worried. He had already eaten the chicken he brought out from there, and it tasted good. Moreover, the backpack was quite special. The chicken placed inside it not only retained its flavor but also stayed warm. So, there shouldn't be any problems with storing other ingredients in it.

In the evening, Jake went out again to set up his barbecue stall. Before he could use that special space to change his life, Jake didn't dare to disrupt his current routine. Otherwise, he feared he wouldn't be able to make a living. The business in the evening was still lukewarm.

Jake looked across the street at a barbecue restaurant and thought to himself, "When I have enough money, I'll open a shop like that with a large space and a good environment. I believe I'll have many more customers than now." Previously, such thoughts were just wishful thinking, difficult to achieve.

After all, Jake had always had bad luck. He didn't know when his barbecue stall might no longer be able to sustain itself. However, now that he had that special ring, everything was different. Opening a shop was no longer an unattainable goal. If the old man who gave Jake the ring knew that all Jake wanted after obtaining it was to open a shop, he would probably be infuriated.

When Jake returned to his accommodation, it was already past one in the morning. After a simple wash, he lay back on his bed, feeling slightly excited. He turned the ring on his hand and silently recited "Teleport."

This was the method the old man had taught him. Sure enough, the next second, Jake was once again surrounded by familiar darkness, devoid of any light. The dense blackness enveloped his entire body, making him slightly uncomfortable. Fortunately, this feeling quickly passed, and the next second, he found himself in the familiar village.

Compared to his first visit yesterday when he was lost, today's Jake was clearly more prepared and even more excited. He knew that this ring might really change his destiny and allow him to leave his previous life behind. Of course, as the old man had said, the gods only gave him the opportunity to change his destiny. Whether he could ultimately change it depended on himself.

With an excited mood, Jake ran toward the village chief's house. He was quite satisfied with the Appraisal skill he obtained from the village chief yesterday. He even thought about acquiring more treasures from the village chief. "Village chief, I'm here. Do you have any tasks for me?" Jake asked eagerly.

"task? No, no, hurry up and leave. I don't want to see you." Unlike Jake's excited expression, the old man didn't have a pleasant face when he saw Jake. Obviously, he still remembered Jake taking away the appraisal technique from him yesterday.

"Don't do that, Village Chief. We're all old acquaintances. It really hurts my heart when you say that," Jake said with a forced smile. "If there's any mission, just give the order. Whether there's a reward or not, it's up to you."

"Really?" The Village Chief seemed somewhat skeptical about Jake's change in attitude. He clearly remembered Jake's pleading for rewards with a shameless face yesterday, insisting on getting artifacts or divine pets. How could he change overnight?

"Of course!" Jake patted his chest and said, "Am I the kind of person who only cares about money and won't move a muscle without a reward? Absolutely not!"

Although it was only Jake's second time entering this world, he had already realized that while it was a game world, the people here were living beings, not just strings of data. They had emotions and thoughts, making this a real world. So, it wasn't a bad idea to build good relationships with the people here. Besides, if the Village Chief really gave him a task, he would probably give some rewards, just like when Nina gave him a bowl of chicken. Anyway, Jake was a complete newbie now, and he would take whatever he could get. He wasn't picky.

"Not bad, not bad. I didn't misjudge you," the old man seemed to believe Jake's words and was satisfied with his response. "However, I don't have any tasks for you at the moment. You can go to Clark and see if he has anything for you."

"Clark?" Jake was taken aback.

"He's the pharmacist in our village. Don't underestimate our village, even though it's small. We have pharmacists, chefs, blacksmiths, and everything else, all of the highest level. They are at the top even in the entire continent!" The old man said proudly, his face glowing with enthusiasm, resembling the confidence he had when Jake saw him as a charlatan a moment ago.

Bluffing! Jake muttered to himself. In his mind, this was just a beginner's village. Based on his previous gaming experience, the beginner's village was a place for beginners to familiarize themselves with the game. Players wouldn't stay there for long, and the people here could only offer basic tasks. The "system characters" here naturally wouldn't be high-level. Jake thought that the old man was just trying to glorify himself and his village.

However, Jake wouldn't say this out loud. It's best not to offend people unnecessarily. He didn't want the old man to drive him away in anger. He was still weak at the moment, and leaving the beginner's village would result in a very grim fate.

After learning about the whereabouts of "Clark" from the old man, Jake planned to go and see him. Although the Village Chief didn't have any tasks for him, it might be the same for others. As long as there were missions, he was willing to take them.
