In the midst of their discussion, Bruce Banner's remark left everyone speechless. They had been discussing for a while and realized that they couldn't exclude anyone based on their analysis.
"I'm really confused by Nick Fury's statement of 'don't trust anyone'," Tony Stark glanced at the options again. "Leaving aside Clint Barton, Maria Hill and Sharon Carter are both affiliated with S.H.I.E.L.D. Are they loyal to Nick Fury or Alexander Pierce?"
"At this point, we can only rule out one person," Thor said. "Romanoff."
"So, how do we choose the answer to this question?" Bruce Banner felt lost. "There's no way to eliminate anyone."
"No, we can eliminate one person," Steve Rogers said. "Nick Fury was shot multiple times by the Winter Soldier. Even if he faked his death, his injuries wouldn't have allowed him to save anyone."
"What about the remaining three?" Tony Stark asked. "How do we eliminate them?"
"Based on instinct," Steve Rogers, not one to be indecisive, relied on his gut feeling since there was no analytical solution. "As an Avenger, Clint Barton should be the most capable of saving people and also the most trustworthy. So, I choose option A, Clint Barton."
"Answer Incorrect! One year of lifespan deducted!"
"It seems my instincts weren't so accurate," Steve Rogers shrugged, not feeling particularly regretful since it was all guesswork in the first place, and the likelihood of being wrong was high.
As they continued chatting without further discussion, a video started playing in the room. The video showed Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff riding together in a car on a highway.
However, they were not alone in the car. There were two other individuals present—one was an African-American man driving the car, making his first appearance in the video. He was relatively unfamiliar to everyone.
Of course, they would become familiar with him in the future. He was Sam Wilson, one of Captain America's staunch followers and the future Falcon.
The other person was a bald man. Although they didn't know much about him, his face had appeared in the video before.
He was the bald man who ordered the capture of Steve Rogers, Jasper Sitwell.
"The Serpent dislikes leaks, but why is your mouth so loose?" Sam Wilson, driving the car, remarked.
Everyone knew who he was referring to. When Jasper Sitwell ordered the capture of Steve Rogers, they already had an idea that he must be one of the members of HYDRA.
"Infiltration plan initiated in 16 hours," Natasha Romanoff leaned over from the back seat and said to Steve Rogers, who was sitting in the passenger seat. "We're running out of time."
"I know," Steve Rogers turned his head and looked out the window. "We'll use him to bypass the DNA scan and enter the Helicarrier directly."
"What? Are you out of your mind?" Jasper Sitwell exploded upon hearing this. "This idea is absolutely terrible."
Crash!
At that moment, a loud crash came from the car's roof as something hit it. Immediately after, a metallic arm reached over, smashing the car window and grabbing Jasper Sitwell, tossing him out of the car.
Some might say that what goes around comes around, and Jasper Sitwell, after being thrown out, collided with a passing truck. After a long, agonizing scream, he disappeared without a trace.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
After throwing Jasper Sitwell out, the Winter Soldier stood on the car roof, continuously shooting into the car. Bullets pierced through the roof, finding their way inside.
However, the occupants of the car were not ordinary people. In such a confined space, both Natasha Romanoff and Steve Rogers dodged the bullets, escaping unharmed.
Screech!
A sharp braking sound resounded. Due to inertia, the Winter Soldier was thrown off the car roof. He extended his left arm, and with metallic fingers, grabbed the ground, emitting a grating friction sound. Accompanied by sparks, he left five deep claw marks on the hard road surface.
Then, the Winter Soldier slowly stood up.
In the midst of flowing traffic, one person and one car confronted each other.
Natasha Romanoff was the first to react, aiming her gun at the Winter Soldier, but before she could pull the trigger, another car suddenly sped from behind and crashed into the car Natasha Romanoff was in. Her gun fell to the ground.
The car behind increased its speed, directly targeting the Winter Soldier standing in the middle of the road.
When the vehicle reached the Winter Soldier, he flipped over and landed on the car's hood. In that split second, the car's windshield shattered with a loud crash.
Sam Wilson attempted to shake off the car behind him, but before he could even turn the steering wheel, a metallic arm reached down, plucking the steering wheel out of the car like pulling out a weed.
"What the hell!" Sam Wilson exclaimed, jumping away.
At this moment, Natasha Romanoff picked up the gun that had fallen earlier and began shooting at the car's roof.
The Winter Soldier leaped onto the back of the car. Instead of getting into the car, he stood on its hood, chasing after Steve Rogers' car that had been pursuing them.
Compared to Steve Rogers' car, the Winter Soldier's car was much larger, and he forcefully rammed into it.
"Hold on!" In the moments before the car was about to flip, Steve Rogers, holding his shield, pulled Natasha Romanoff and Sam Wilson into his arms, then slammed into the car, directly knocking off the car door.
Just as the car door separated from the car body, the vehicle flew into the air, tumbling.
Crash!
The car door thrown by Steve Rogers landed on the road, sliding forward, while Steve Rogers and the others lay on top of it, protected and unharmed.
"Captain, it seems you've finally met your match," Tony Stark couldn't help but remark.
The Winter Soldier's appearance was brief, and his confrontation with Steve Rogers was fleeting. They didn't even engage in direct combat, but the Winter Soldier's formidable strength was evident.
In today's encounter, Steve Rogers was fortunate to be a super soldier; otherwise, he would surely have been defeated.
"This guy is really strong," Steve Rogers uttered these words, acknowledging the Winter Soldier's power despite their adversarial relationship.
