While some of his roommates were busy finishing their lunches, Albert was writing a letter to Selina Harris. The content of the letter was greetings and an expression of his desire for mutual correspondence. At the end of the letter, Albert briefly introduced his idea for the magic lamp to Harris.
In truth, Albert had tried to store the light ball inside a box more than once, but the result was that without the magical support, the light ball couldn't sustain itself for too long and would automatically dissipate.
The idea for the magic lamp originally stemmed from the Deluminator. If he could develop a technique to store light, he could create a magic lamp.
Of course, there was also a more straightforward way to make a magic lamp: using Everlasting Fire, a magical flame known as "Eternal Flames" or "Perpetual Flames." By placing Everlasting Fire as the light source and covering it with a specially designed glass enclosure, a stable, continuous, and bright white light could be produced.
As for the switch, one could use a cover-like object that could block the light when not needed.
Albert just happened to know a way to completely block light.
In the novel and movies, the Weasley twins had created a non-transparent smoke bomb, and its non-transparency could be used to make a non-transparent lampshade.
However, most of these ideas were still only on paper, and turning hypotheses into reality was not an easy task.
After sending the letter off with Selina's owl, Albert returned to the Great Hall.
Fred, George, and Lee Jordan had already finished their lunch and were huddled together, studying Albert's Wizard Card notes and helping transcribe the names and effects of the cards.
On the other side, Angelina and Alicia were looking at the new cards and discussing whether to ask Albert to make original cards for them as well.
After all, Albert and his friends' original cards looked much better than the ones they were currently using.
"However, using pictures directly on Wizard Cards might not be a good idea," Angelina also noticed several issues.
Although Wizard Cards were similar to Chocolate Frog cards, they still felt a bit strange when using pictures.
"We don't have the money to hire skilled artists," Albert sat down next to Alicia and shook his head, "If we really want to replace pictures with drawings, that's something for the distant future."
Of course, Albert had already prepared backup plans. If they decided not to use pictures later on, he would use portraits instead.
"Can you paint portraits?" George couldn't help but ask. They knew Albert was skilled in many things, so saying he could paint portraits didn't seem strange.
"No, I can't," Albert denied plainly, "If there's a need for it, we can pay Muggle artists to do it and then use magic to enhance the portraits."
Albert's words surprised the others; they had never thought of borrowing the power of Muggles to accomplish something.
"These things can be discussed later," Albert raised his hand to stop the others from overthinking it, signaling that it was a matter for much later in the future.
But the thought patterns of the wizards living in the magical world still left him speechless.
With several people taking turns to help fill in the cards, the efficiency increased, and soon many new cards were added. Albert also clearly divided the factions. Currently, there were only four factions representing the four Hogwarts houses, each with different effects, and all players had fixed health points at twenty.
Perhaps, subconsciously, everyone currently used Gryffindor as their faction.
"You know, if the mysterious person appears on Wizard Cards in the future, it might scare everyone," Albert joked. However, he quickly noticed that the atmosphere around him suddenly froze.
"What's wrong?" Albert looked around at everyone, confused.
"Wizard Cards will have cards featuring the mysterious person?" Angelina's tone was slightly uneasy, clearly not thinking it was a good idea.
"Of course, there will be. In the future, there will even be a Dark Wizard faction. I think the mysterious person is quite fitting," Albert's voice weakened as he finally realized what was going on.
Wizards born in the magical world naturally had an instinctive awe and fear of the mysterious person. They weren't like Albert, who had an "edge" and came from the Muggle world, knowing the mysterious person's weaknesses, like the fact that he had no nose after his resurrection.
For other wizards living in the magical world, who grew up hearing scary stories about the mysterious person, there was still fear associated with him, even if they had never personally experienced that period.
"Wow," Fred suddenly said, "You're not afraid at all?"
"I come from the Muggle world," Albert shrugged, explaining, "The name doesn't mean anything special to me, just like any other name."
"Are you seriously planning to put the mysterious person in the cards? By the way, what are you going to do without pictures?" Lee Jordan curiously asked.
"That's simple. For the pictures, I'll just make them mostly black with a pair of red eyes left," Albert blinked and smiled, "The mysterious person, the infamous Dark Lord, you just need to make him mysterious and scary. After all, there aren't many people who have actually seen him."
"That kind of makes sense," George nodded.
"I say, can you all stop discussing this," Alicia couldn't help but complain. For most wizards in the magical world, the mysterious person was a taboo, yet these few idiots were treating it as a joke.
"Alright, anyway, it's a matter for much later in the future," Albert rearranged his cards, and with the original cards, he now had over 100 types of cards.
Shanna approached, looking at the group gathered around the table playing with the cards, and expressed her curiosity, "Is this game really that fun?"
"Yeah, it's more fun when many people gather to play," Albert answered, "It tests your understanding of the cards, how to combine them, and how to use them effectively. You need to think about how to use strategy to defeat your opponents, not just stack high-star cards like George."
"Hey, don't use me as a bad example," George protested unhappily.
"I think you're the best example," Lee Jordan nodded in agreement.
George was now planning to go all out, trying to match tactics that suited him. Especially with the cards further perfected, this idea was likely to work.
Hearing Lee Jordan's words, everyone couldn't help but laugh.
"Why is it that your card looks like this, while the others still look quite rough?" Shanna pointed to Fred's card, asking in confusion.
"Well, this card was specially made by Albert a while ago. Don't I look cool on it?" Fred said smugly, "In the future, the other cards will gradually become like this too. But since Albert is the only one making the cards, it will be a bit slow. Once we reach his level, we'll help make the original cards together."
"It feels a bit like Chocolate Frog cards," Shanna took out a Chocolate Frog card of Dumbledore and compared it to the Wizard Card.
"That's right, we were originally inspired by Chocolate Frog cards," Albert admitted with a nod, "Eventually, we'll turn all the Chocolate Frog cards into Wizard Cards too. But for now, it's still not possible."
Shanna sat down nearby and watched Fred and Alicia play cards. Fred was more skilled and eventually won the game.
"That's it? You lost just like that?"
"Yeah, everyone starts with twenty health points," Albert explained, "Generally, the first side to reach zero health loses. The usual tactic is to exchange blows and try to inflict damage on each other. Of course, there are many ways to play Wizard Cards; it mainly depends on how each person chooses to play."
"Why are all the cards from Gryffindor?" Davies couldn't help but ask after watching for a while.
"Uh, because this card game was just invented recently, and I've only made Gryffindor's cards for now," Albert explained.
Katrina picked up a card and glanced at its content, raising an eyebrow, "You mean you invented this game?"
"Uh, I invented the game," Albert explained, "If you're interested, you can ask others to teach you how to play."
"This is the Wizard Card you mentioned in your last letter?" Truman asked curiously. He remembered that Albert had sent him one of his cards, which had an effect called "Surprise Attack: Can attack immediately after being played."
"Yes, it is. If you're interested, you can try playing a game with them," Albert pointed to Fred and the others.
"What if I want cards from my own house?" Truman continued to ask, not being a Gryffindor student, naturally, he wanted to use cards from his own house.
"Well, other cards will take time to design," Albert explained, "Of course, you don't need to worry about me being biased. For the fairness and justice of the card game, I won't favor any side while making the cards, or it would lose its meaning."
"I'm in. Who wants to play a game with me?" Katrina reached out to Albert, "Lend me your deck."
"I'll play with you," Shanna raised an eyebrow, "Fred, lend me your deck for a bit."
The two newcomers started a beginners' game.
Although it was their first time playing Wizard Cards, after hearing a simple explanation, they roughly knew how to play.
A few minutes later, Katrina lost because she randomly used the spell cards from Albert's deck, resulting in a rather miserable defeat.
"Is there something wrong with this deck?" Katrina glared at Albert, dissatisfied.
"You just don't know how to use my deck," Albert shrugged, "Wizard Cards have many ways to play, and my deck may be a bit challenging for you."
Katrina pouted; she actually knew what was going on. Fred's deck was all about Quidditch, while Albert's deck had many spell cards.
"It seems like deck-building can be quite flexible," Truman also noticed the difference in styles between the two decks.
"That's right," Albert said, "Everyone can create their own unique style."
"If you guys are interested in Wizard Cards, I also welcome you to join me in perfecting this game," Albert said to the onlookers.
Of course, not many people were genuinely interested.
After all, the appearance of the Wizard Cards was not particularly appealing; it seemed far less entertaining than other games. However, some people might be interested in this novel game.
