Capítulo 46: Chapter 46

It's been 2 weeks since their departure from G-11.

"How much more must we do this? When are we reaching the island?"

Filled with nothing but boredom, Bartolomeo whined. Nami who heard Bartolomeo shrugged,

"How are we supposed to know? We don't even know which island this log pose is pointing at anyway!"

"...Damn."

Deuce glanced at the log pose on Nami's wrist before shifting his eyes to where Rowan was present.

Rowan seemed to be invested in his own world, as he was once again found to be meditating with his eyes closed.

"Observation Haki, huh."

Deuce muttered as he thought over what Rowan taught them within the last 6 months.

<Haki is the manifestation of one's willpower into a tangible energy. Currently, I am using this energy to 'sense' the intents of my opponents. Whether they harbour any malicious thoughts, of what type of movements they will make, and how strong their subconscious 'willpower' is—there are countless uses of Haki that I too am in the process of finding out.>

He couldn't understand why Nami and Bartolomeo were uninterested in this; perhaps they thought their devil fruit abilities were the superior forms of power to Haki. But to Deuce, Haki truly was a mystical ability; the idea of converting one's willpower into his or her strength sounded like the power that a true adventurer should have. He couldn't help but wonder,

'Just what must the captain have gone through to attain a power like this?'

Just then, Rowan opened his eyes. He stood up and stretched his body. With a relaxed smile, he then asked,

"So, are we close to the island?"

Nami and Bartolomeo stared at each other for a second, before shrugging,

""No idea.""

...

"What is this?"

Deuce raised an eyebrow as Rowan and Nami came out from the cabin as they held onto... fishing poles.

"I knew this was going to happen."

Rowan smirked,

"A long sail that we don't know how long it will take. Regardless of our supplies, isn't it boring to just pass time like this?"

And a few minutes later, all four members of Grimheart Pirates were holding their respective fishing poles.

"So, how are we going to eat the fish?"

Deuce asked, and Nami pointed at herself in confidence,

"Me, duh! I wonder who's been cooking for the entirety of our sail!"

Rowan raised his hand,

"I can do the cutting part. Sashimi is my expertise, but... I can't guarantee you if fish will be clean and safe enough to eat raw."

Deuce then turned to look at Bartolomeo, who frowned in confusion.

"...Why are you looking at me like that?"

"And what are you going to do while our captain and navigator work hard?"

Bartolomeo, growing a tickmark on his head, pointed at Deuce,

"What about you, huh?!!"

"I'm going to—"

Then, before Deuce could finish his words, the fishing pole that belonged to Bartolomeo started to bend harshly. Yelping in surprise, Bartolomeo latched onto his pole and began to yank it back.

"GRRRAAHHHHHH!!!"

With a mighty roar, Bartolomeo managed to bring out whatever was caught. As Bartolomeo fell on the deck, everyone gazed at the sky where what Bartolomeo pulled was now visible by sight.

"...HUH?!!"

Nami's eyes sparkled,

"A... treasure chest?!!"

Casually walking to where the treasure chest was falling, Rowan caught it with one hand. Placing it down on the deck, he shared his thought,

"Before we open the chest, there is one thing we can deduce based on this phenomenon."

Deuce added on, knowing what Rowan was going to speak,

"Treasure chest—something as heavy as this can't be floating in the ocean. It was at the bottom, and Bartolomeo managed to hook it... this means that the depth underneath us is shallow!"

Rowan grinned,

"And this can be translated as the island being near."

Deuce pumped his fist up, filled with nothing but joy. However, to Nami and Bartolomeo, the thought of reaching the island was now nothing but a secondary interest, as they locked their eyes on the treasure chest.

"Rowan, let's open the chest!!"

"Just what can be awaiting us inside? Loads of gold? Devil fruit? Some insane heirloom of a fallen kingdom?!"

Chuckling at their enthusiasm, Rowan didn't hesitate any further. Crushing the lock that kept the chest closed in his grasp, Rowan opened the treasure chest. They found,

"Uh..."

Deuce sweatdropped,

"Is this a giant rubber plug?"

"Like the stopper you use on a bathtub."

Nami added on dryly. Rowan then snickered,

"I bet that this treasure chest itself is worth more."

Bartolomeo was slumped with a dark cloud hovering above his head. Rowan patted Bartolomeo's back as he pointed at the distance,

"Don't be too down though. Look,"

As Bartolomeo followed Rowan's hand, he came to see an island.

"we've finally reached our destination... though we got no idea where the hell this place is."

Bartolomeo, having forgotten the disappointment in the treasure chest, immediately ran to the front-most section of the ship along with Deuce, filled with excitement.

Nami, in silence, was still glaring at the giant rubber plug murderously. Rowan, reaching into his pocket, took out a couple of bills and waved them in front of Nami. Nami's eyes immediately turned into dollar signs and began to follow the bills in Rowan's hold as if she were being mind-manipulated.

Rowan couldn't help but break out in laughter,

"Hah, we surely are a bunch of weirdos."

...

Upon reaching the island, Grimheart Pirates skillfully docked Shooting Star at a remote body of water that was hidden behind the forest.

"I was the one who watched the ship last time, so someone else should this time around!"

Bartolomeo, with his arms crossed, huffed. Rowan, nodding, agreed to Bartolomeo's words.

"I'll watch the ship this time around. As for you guys..."

He then proceeded to give orders,

"Nami, do take a look into any information about the navigation. Like, any form of map will be great.

Deuce, follow Nami, and ensure that they are nutritious enough. We don't want the deficiency in nutrients to obstruct our journey. Get some medicinal supplies also if we need more.

Bartolomeo, as for you..."

Rowan sighed,

"Just don't cause any trouble. Got that?"

"Oi, what's with that attitude?!"

Bartolomeo complained,

"I'm smarter now!! Give me something to do, captain!!"

"Hm..."

Rowan thought briefly, before replying,

"Nah."

"Gahhhh!!"

Bartolomeo screamed in frustration, before calming down and huffing,

"Fine then! I'll prove to you, captain, that I'm more reliable than those two!!"

Bartolomeo had his finger pointed at Nami and Deuce, who looked back at him in amusement and mockery.

"But that's impossible!"

Nami then remarked, and Deuce simply shook his head. Bartolomeo growled,

"Then I'll make the impossible possible!!"

"...You know, it would've been cool if someone else other than you said that."

Deuce muttered.

"Oh yeah?! Then what about you..."

"What did you say?! Wanna have a go?! You are..."

"I spent the last 6 months more wisely than you ever could've! Just because you got a devil fruit doesn't mean..."

The dispute between Nami, Deuce, and Bartolomeo went on and on, and Rowan stood still, with his eyes twitching.

'...Can you guys leave already?'

He couldn't help but think in annoyance.

__________

"Uh..."

Scratching the back of his head, Bartolomeo walked by the street, trying to think what he was going to do. The previous feud with Nami and Deuce was no longer present in his head.

"Why am I walking this way again?"

In Bartolomeo's pocket was 50 thousand Beli that Rowan distributed to him. Dismissing the thought, Bartolomeo smiled as he enjoyed the feeling of being rich. He confidently walked down the street,

"Ow!"

before bumping into someone who crashed into him from the back. Angered, Bartolomeo immediately stood back up and turned around.

"What the fuck, man?!"

He came to see a beautiful woman who exhibited fear as she saw Bartolomeo's menacing visage. She, in pale expression, quickly lowered her head,

"S-Sorry, please forgive me just once!! P-Please, spare my life!!"

"H-Huh?"

Confused, Bartolomeo took a step back. Upon the woman's plea, people's attention became focused on him. Bartolomeo couldn't help but cry,

"Hey, why would I even hurt you?!"

"KYAAAA!!!"

Screaming, the woman ran away from the scene, leaving Bartolomeo dumbfounded.

"What even is..."

Bartolomeo, eventually sighing, put his hands back into his pockets, about to resume his walk. Then, he felt it,

"Wait, my money..."

With his eyes widened in realization, Bartolomeo turned back once more. He screamed,

"WAIT OVER THERE, FUCKING THIEF!!! I'LL FUCKING MURDER YOU!!!"

However, before he could do anymore, he found a giant shadow looming over him from his back.

"...Eh?"

As Bartolomeo blinked his eyes, a deep voice was heard from his back,

"Murder who?"

Slowly turning around, Bartolomeo gulped,

"W-Who are you?"

The giant man with a fierce-looking face and flame-shaped tattoos on his forehead was standing. Said man stated grimly,

"There is no name to speak to a thug like you."

"H-Hey, wait!!"

Then, before Bartolomeo could say anything more, a huge fist came flying at him. Bartolomeo couldn't help but growl in frustration.

"Fine then, you started this!!"

He crossed his fingers,

"Barrier!!"

__________

"That man is...!"

In a nearby cafe, a teenage girl whose blue hair was pulled back into a ponytail and a blonde-haired man with a crown over his head were found to be sitting by.

"'Cannibal' Bartolomeo!"

As if having waited for this moment, they turned to look at one another.

"This means..."

"Grimheart Pirates, they're finally here!"

Standing up, they faced the ongoing battle between Bartolomeo and the giant man. The girl asked the man,

"Should we interfere, Mr.12?"

"Um,"

Said Mr.12 squinted his eyes at the giant man, before shaking his head frantically,

"N-No. I don't think we'll be able to win against that monster."

"Then..."

"Let's look for other members! From what we heard, 'Cannibal', contrary to the amount of bounty, is their weakest link anyway!"

The two of them then turned back and ran into the corner,

"Let's be on our way, Ms.Wednesday!"

"Yes, Mr.12!"

As they left, a nearby civilian, who was overhearing their conversation from the start to the end, sweatdropped.

"Are they role-playing or what? Mr.12? Ms.Wednesday? Haha, I bet that I can come up with a better story than that! Something like a princess becoming a spy to destroy the evil organization that harms her kingdom from the inside—aha, I should write a story about this!"
