Capítulo 9: Owen vs Laura Jenson
Over the course of an entire month, I kept receiving challenges from many different students who were also high ranking in the academy.
For the others in the high ranking position who did not challenged me, I challenged them myself and defeated every single person one after the other increasing my fame or notoriety throughout the academy.
But it got boring soon enough.
I don't think I have it in me to fight and bully every single person here so I am thinking of just directly challenging the top 10. I mean they don't usually fight with each other anyway. They are just there to keep each other in check.
The most powerful person in the academy right now is Duke Grayne from the infamous Duke family he is actually the person I want to fight the most because at least he will be a little challenge.
I have noticed myself getting stronger while fighting those who I know are stronger than me because the fact that I could lose or have very less chance of winning lifts my spirit even more and I just find it more fun to overcome a challenge than become a challenge to others.
I would love to fight him right away but apparently there is a rule that you can only fight against the person ranking at the 10th position and you can only challenge others of top 10 after entering their rankings.
So, sorry Laura Jenson but you are gonna lose you position now.
I had already sent a request for a spar against her to the student council office yesterday and the news of that spread throughout the academy as I was a newcomer yet challenged the top 10 to a fight.
Honestly, I don't know what the big deal is. I mean just because you are not that powerful doesn't mean others are not either.
Oh I also got a call from my father telling me that I was doing good and the group's name was rising more and more.
Recently father challenged the person ranking at 92nd position and won against him without much problem.
So the rumour has been going on that the Knight Family has been cultivating it's strength in secret and is now slowly showing it off to the world.
To be honest, I did not expect Dad to win against him either but he said that 'Soru' and 'Sky Walk' gave him a lot of advantage in the battle so much so that he was able to win against him with a decent margin.
He told me that he will later directly challenge the one ranking at 85th position as well. And I think he is being stupid and letting his new found strength getting to his head.
Grandpa too will start challenging a few awakened ones who rank higher than him. If I can guess, I would say that he should be able to rise by at least 5 ranks bringing him to 42nd position worldwide which is awesome.
Charlotte also got a few challenges in the past few weeks all from mid to large groups and she won them all. I mean obviously she would win. After all her combat prowess isn't that different from mine and it is most likely that she would also get a letter of admission in the WAA sooner than we expected.
Anyway back to topic, I have my first match with top 10 of the academy today.
I did fight with the one who was rejected from the top 10 and he said that the top 10 are on a whole another level compared to him. So I am actually really looking forward to this fight.
I entered the arena to see the entirety of the top 10 in the stands for the first time.
'Are they scared that someone else is gonna take their positions away from them.'
I saw Laura Jenson already on the stage waiting for me so I went over there immediately.

[3rd POV]
As soon as Owen entered the fighting arena, the crowd started booing and cheered for Laura.
"So you are the newbie that everyone is causing a ruckus about." Laura said
"Yupp" Owen said while popping the p at the end.
"Just because you defeated the other high ranking students from our academy, don't think that you are a match for me!!" A huge aura erupted from Laura causing cracks to appear on the ground.
"That is literally what everyone has told me before getting their asses whooped." Owen said with a deadpan expression completely ignoring the huge aura surrounding Laura Jenson.
*Beep*
*Beep*
*Beep*
*Whoosh* A pointy earthen spear shot across from Owen's back aiming for his heart but Owen side stepped to his right and caught the spear with his left hand and crushed it.
[A/N: They are not exactly spears but the ground is morphed into sharp things. Imagine Kabuto's technique from Naruto when he fought against Itachi and Sasuke.]
"Sorry. But sneak attacks don't really work on me."
"You!! Then dodge this!!"
More and more spears flew towards Owen from all sides however all of them hit his after image as he escaped and dashed towards Laura who was still sitting on the ground keeping in contact with the ground.
The speed and number of the attack increased as he made his way towards her.
Realising that this would be pointless and the distance between them is getting shorter and shorter, Laura created a huge wall beneath her to give herself a vantage point.
This increase in height did not only created some distance between herself and Owen but also provided her with a different angle to launch her attacks. She created many spikes in front of the wall and launched them towards Owen who dodged them gracefully with power of his Observation Haki.
When there was only a short distance between him and the wall, Owen concentrated his power to his fists and decided to completely destroy the wall by using his Armament Haki.
Laura realised this and stopped her attacks. She focussed solely on predicting Owen's path and created a huge spike right before his feet threatening to attack his abdomen.
Owen realised this and was actually surprised that the girl before him actually able to use her brain and made a pretty smart move.
Owen did a light jump just enough to get his feet off the ground then utilising the very same emerging spike from the ground, he carefully placed his foot on it and used it as a foothold to propel himself back and created a distance between him and Laura.
'Let's see what more she can do' Owen thought and smirked as he concentrated even more amount of energy to his fists.
Using flash step, he immediately arrived right before the wall shocking Laura completely and punched the wall with his strength. The wall exploded it's now tiny pieces would have reached and hit students in the audience had it not been for the spacial isolation.
Due to being suspended mid air, Laura was left defenceless and using that opportunity, Owen launched a series of kicks and sent her crashing down to the ground rendering her unconscious.
The crowd cheered for Owen as soon as it was announced that he had won against Laura who was one of the top 10 in the academy. His cheering squads consisted of many girls and Laura's haters as well as some kids who had just wanted to watch the top 10 fall.
Achieving an easy victory against one of the members of the top 10 is basically stating that he can do that against anyone from the top 10 as well.
The top 10 has dominated everyone else from the academy and they call the shots around the academy as well and a lot of the students from the weaker groups flock towards them and kiss their asses in order to save themselves from going over to their bad side.
No matter what they say, once you have gotten on their bad side, you will be beaten senseless or be made to do their bidding of course nothing too extreme happens because of the student council but because no one from the student council is among the top 10, they can't do much about it either nor do they want to do anything about it anyway. Even Leah Erseby the current president of the student council is not part of the top 10 though she is a high ranking member in terms of strength.
They simply turn a blind eye to what is happening which is exactly how everyone behaves in the world of the awakened ones.
Speaking of which on the side where the top 10 were sitting and watching the match, all of them had a frown on their face as they witnesses Laura getting defeated without being able to land a scratch on Owen.
If they had thought of him as someone who is somewhat strong, now after watching the fight right before their eyes. They thought of him to be on a similar level to the upper ranking members of the top 10.
Among the group, the only people who were actually satisfied and relieved was Jean and Eley who had fought with Owen before and lost to him.
Their spar was unofficial as such the result of the spar was not publicised nor did the Knight family found the need to reveal that information to the public.
Jean and Eley currently rank 5 and 6 among the top 10. Which is why Owen had decided that now he will directly challenge the one on the rank 4 that is Glant Gesimov.
