Capítulo 62: Day After
"That really happened yesterday."
Right in the morning, Haruto was laying in his bed staring at his ceiling trying to recall the events that happened yesterday. It was the day after the beach trip and everything returned to what it used to be with a few exceptions.
The afterglow of the confession was still fresh in his mind that he had a difficult time trying to fall asleep when he got home from the beach.
Feeling like he had enough staring at his white ceiling, he rolled out of bed and opened up his windows.
Leaving his room he went to wash his face and suddenly thought about the moment he had with Mahiru near the shore.
*Bang! Bang!
"AHHH WHY DID I SAY ALL THAT!? A FEW SIMPLE WORDS WOULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH RIGHT!?"
Haruto rapidly banged his head against the wall while wincing as he remembered all the words he said to Mahiru.
"That could have been a marriage proposal if I went down on one knee and pulled out a ring…"
Covering his red face, he quickly went to the bathroom and splash cold water on it. Feeling the cool water gradually put out the hot sensation on his face and it helped calm him down.
The image of Mahiru looking towards the setting sun slowly appeared in his mind.
"So Mahiru is my girlfriend now huh."
Haruto didn't know what to say but happiness grew inside him knowing that the person he fell head over heels for is now his girlfriend.
'But what happens now…'

"E-excuse me.."
As he walked out and was drying his face he heard his door open and a familiar voice meekly greeted him. Mahiru was looking around and she did a slight jump seeing Haruto looking at her with a towel in his hand.
"Good morning..."
"G-good morning, I wanted to c-come over to see if I could make breakfast for you…"
Mahiru gave a shy greeting to Haruto as she held a small bag in her hands that contained some ingredients. She looked up at Haruto with an upturned gaze and he just nodded his head absentmindedly.
Seeing his response she blossomed into a bright smile and quickly made her way to the kitchen.
Haruto watched her and placed the towel he had on his face and looked up to the ceiling.
'My girlfriend is so cute.'
Pinching his nose, he held back his happy tears and went to his room to finish his morning routine.

Leaving his room after changing, he went to the kitchen and poured some water in the kettle to make some tea. Haruto watched as Mahiru skillfully rolled the egg in the pan and was checking if the fish had been grilled enough.
After a while, Mahiru placed all of the food onto the table and told him that everything was ready. They sat in front of each other like usual and started to eat while giving each other subtle glances.
"Did you add something new to the eggs? It tastes different than usual."
"I added a bit of chicken stock so I can add a different flavor than what you're used to… Does it taste bad?"
Haruto quickly shook his head at her question after seeing her nervous gaze to which she gave a sigh of relief.
"But what made you suddenly want to have breakfast together? Was it to have me try out your new egg recipe?"
Haruto savored another piece of egg in his mouth and asked Mahiru a question. He wondered since they so far only had dinner and sometimes lunch together. So eating with her this early in the morning was a new experience he greatly welcomed.
Hearing his question Mahiru fidgeted a bit in her seat and her cheeks turned a shade of pink.
"Well I just wanted to cook something for my b-boyfriend… "
Mahiru gave a bashful response and looked at Haruto making him almost drop the chopsticks in his hands.
'Hahh why do I feel like her charms increased even further once we started dating?'
Haruto said in his mind and continued to have breakfast with Mahiru, asking if there were any other dishes she modified.

"But thankfully Amanai-san finally got his number at the end of the day."
"I know, it took quite a bit of effort to finally get it through his head."
Haruto and Mahiru finished breakfast and it greatly helped them get used to the new atmosphere they gave off. Haruto was cleaning up the dishes while Mahiru was leaning near the counter watching him.
They were talking about the events that happened near the end of the beach trip and the situation between Kageyama and Kanoka.
"It was pretty funny though seeing him stutter when it finally clicked in his head."
Haruto laughed as he finished up the last few dishes. He remembered seeing Kageyama with a red face as he gave Kanoka his number. The best part was he almost gave her the wrong one as he kept stuttering and repeated some of the digits.
Drying up his hands, Haruto made his way to the couch and sat down with Mahiru following closely behind.
As they sat down silence filled the air before Mahiru slowly shifted herself to lean her shoulders onto his.
Seeing her actions, Haruto thought in his head that Mahiru had gotten over her hesitation to initiate physical contact with him even before getting together.
So he wondered if dating had changed anything compared to their usual interactions they had.
"Mahiru, you know that we're dating now right?"
She heard his question and nodded with a shy and happy expression on her face.
"So is there anything different from how we usually act with each other?"
The room turned quiet as Mahiru tried to think of the things that couples do that were different from their usual everyday exchanges.
"...Spending time together?"
"But we already do that everyday."
"Hugging or holding hands?"
"...We do that already."
The two of them turned silent once again and felt like they might have already been considered a couple way before the confession even took place.
Mahiru thought back to some of the novels she's read before that contained hints of romance and remembered one other action they haven't done yet.
Her face blushed intensely imagining herself in that situation and hugged Haruto's arm covering her face.
"What's wrong?"
"Umm I think that we should just go like we have always been and not think too much about it…"
"Don't think too much about it huh…"
Haruto repeated her sentence and took it in. Thinking for a while longer he smiled and looked at Mahiru who stuck to his arm.
"Alright let's not think too much about it and just go with it naturally together."
"Hmm."
Hearing her soft response, he raised his arm and hugged her shoulder pulling her in closer.
"But you better prepare yourself since I'm going to repay all the love you have given me so far a hundred times."
"Hmph I would like to see you try. It's a big amount, you know."
The both of them bursted into laughter and smiled, enjoying their first morning together as a couple.
