Capítulo 22: The Devil's Son!

Draven adjusted his glasses and folded his arms to explain.

"Ryan has the ability to hear thoughts. Unless you shut your thoughts out, he can penetrate your mind, hearing every single thing you are thinking of. His ability is also dangerous because a man hardly has any secrets around him."

"That's…insane," Avelina felt a twinge of fear within her.

Draven agreed. "You do not have to worry. Unfortunately for him, his ability does not work on humans."

"Oh…" Avelina was surprised, but she took a deep breath, relieved.

Draven continued, "Lumian, he is an illusionist."

A frown of bewilderment settled on Avelina's forehead. "An illusionist?"

Draven nodded at her. "Yes."

"He has the ability to warp the structure of molecules to make a location or a person appear different. He could change the structure of this area and make it appear different before your eyes."

Avelina's face showed a certain amount of terror.

"T-that's…" She fluttered her eyes, unable to complete her sentence. "What about Lestat?"

Draven answered, "Telekinesis. He can move things with his mind. Mental powers, I suppose. If he looks at you, he can move you for as long as he wants without touching you."

Avelina pressed further with deep interest, "And what about Valentine."

Draven pondered for a while before speaking.

"Valentine has one of the top most dangerous abilities in the entirety of our kind." His gaze slightly became distant. "It is mind control which gives him the ability to influence and control people's minds and thoughts."

"That alone makes him deadly and dangerous. To escape him, you have to be very strong-willed. It is not easy to prevent him from taking control of you. Do you understand?"

Avelina nodded slightly.

"Uh...I understand."

She then inquired, "What about you? What is your ability?"

"You mean abilities…" Draven playfully moved the chess pieces.

"Huh?" Avelina struggled to understand.

Draven took his glasses off and turned his head. He glanced at the maids in waiting, clad in black clothing that covered them from head to toe, leaving only their eyes visible.

"You are dismissed," he ordered.

The maids gave a deep bow and straightened up. They left in a coordinated manner, leaving Draven and Avelina to themselves.

Draven returned his attention to Avelina.

Then he said, "I have two abilities, Avelina."

Avelina smiled at him with perplexity. "How do you mean? I don't understand."

"Vampires can only be born with one ability. But…for some reasons that I can't really tell myself, I was born with things different from the standards. Instead of one ability, I possess two abilities," Draven clarified.

"No one knows about it, except my late wife. My father has no idea nor does the rest of the family. They all think I have only one ability."

Avelina had many questions, but she decided to start with the most important one which was bewildering her.

"How do they not have the slightest idea that you have two abilities? I mean, if others don't, your father should at least know."

Draven revealed an approving expression.

"You are right. My father would have, had I not hidden it. Unlike my known ability, this secret one bloomed quite late, thus I had the opportunity to hide it. We learn from our first mistakes Avelina and I was not willing to make such a mistake again. I was young, but I was not stupid."

"If my father had known that I possessed two abilities, he would have killed me as soon as he had the opportunity because this ability makes it impossible for just anyone to be able to murder me."

Avelina tried to process and comprehend his words. "I am still…confused. Why would he want to kill you?"

Draven rubbed his temples and let out a soft breath.

"Do you know what my father calls me?" he casually asked.

"No," Avelina shook her head.

"The devil's son," Draven responded. "That is what he called me ever since I was a young boy."

"What?!" Avelina exclaimed. She blinked her eyes, puzzled. "Why? You don't—"

"I am different from the rest of them, Avelina. You cannot deny that, yourself!" Draven cut her off with a serious expression.

"Let me show you something." He stood up from his seat and extended his hand out. "Step out with me for a moment, please."

Avelina looked into his glimmering eyes and reluctantly took his hand. She followed beside him out of the pavilion onto the garden grounds.

They stood opposite each other, their eyes locked on each other.

"So…what do you want to show me?" Avelina raised her brows.

"Be patient," Draven said. "We are forbidden from revealing this to humans for future foreseen reasons, so I am very sure that you must not have glimpsed it, even in the slave house."

"But I don't mind showing you," he added.

Avelina's interest deepened, wondering what it could be.

Draven took a deep breath and took his shirt off.

Avelina drew her head back, confused, but she, however, fixated her focus on him the second she saw him lower his head.

With slow deliberate movement, Draven tightened his arm muscles and his forehead crumpled in what one would call slight pain.

A pair of magnificent white wings big enough to embrace the both of them, slowly unfurled behind him, casting a shadow.

They looked ethereal with intricate patterns shimmering across their surface. Each feather created a breathtaking display of otherworldly beauty.

Avelina's eyes widened, her breath caught in her throat. In all her years of being taught about these creatures, nothing had prepared her for this wondrous sight. Her disbelief was etched on her face—her expression a mix of astonishment and terror.

The realization that she was witnessing something she had never for once thought existed, flooded her mind, momentarily paralyzing her.

Draven watched Avelina's expression and slightly frowned. As a man who did not have a profound understanding of emotions, he read her expression wrong. He believed he glimpsed fear in her eyes.
