The four Jonin fixed their unwavering gazes on Shino, their positions forming a tight ring around him. The gentle breeze stirred the forest, causing the trees to sway and a cascade of leaves to descend gracefully.
As the final leaf descended and settled upon the ground, Kakashi's voice cut through the stillness with an icy edge. "Do it."
Whoosh! In a blur of motion, Guy was the first to strike, his speed surpassing ordinary ninja perception. He materialized in midair behind Shino, his leg extending with incredible force as he kicked towards Shino's head. "Konoha: Whirlwind!"
Shino barely reacted to Guy's astounding speed, but it didn't matter, for he had everything meticulously under control.
"Nani?!" Guy exclaimed in disbelief as he witnessed his leg pass through Shino, as if he were a spectral illusion.
Refusing to accept defeat, Guy swiftly landed on the ground, borrowing the force from his previous kick, executing a twirling motion and launching his leg backward from the opposite direction. "Konoha: Strong Whirlwind!"
Whoosh! Shino didn't even perceive the kick before it had already passed through him, smashing into a tree and chopping through it, causing it to slowly topple over.
Crack. Crack. Crack. The fallen tree shattered upon impact, and in an instant, wooden pillars erupted from the earth, ensnaring Shino within their confines. Sharp spikes of wood pierced Shino's body from all angles as Guy leapt back agilely, evading the deadly assault.
Guy stood with one hand raised, a perplexed expression furrowing his prominent brow. "Kakashi, I'm not hitting anything?"
Kakashi's Sharingan gleamed with intrigue, yet a frown creased his forehead as he surveyed the scene. "An illusion? But it appears to be his real body. Could it be some special ability?"
Yamato opened his eyes and observed the spikes that failed to draw blood before shaking his head in frustration, "I'm not detecting anything. He is the sole presence here. Even my wood release seems ineffective."
Asuma's brows knitted together as he lowered his head, a sense of disappointment clouding his countenance when he heard there was no one else here. He gripped his trench knife tightly, as if reaching a resolute decision.
Shino's chuckle filled the air, his gaze shifting towards the four seasoned Jonin. Slowly, he formed the hand seals for a shadow clone technique, their eyes following his every move, wondering why he was sealing so slowly. Puff. Puff. Puff.
In billows of smoke, three additional Shino clones materialized around him. Shino parted his lips, preparing to speak, but once again, Guy's kick passed through the clones.
A twitch played at the corner of Shino's mouth as he observed Guy's assault coming to a halt once again, wearing an expression of displeasure. "Shino-kun, this method of fighting lacks the power of youth! Come, let your youth explode!"
Shino glanced at Guy, ignoring his remark. With a leap, the four Shino split up, gracefully landing on separate branches of the tree. In a flash, the four Jonin appeared next to the clones, each blocking one.
Shino chuckled, and in a calm voice, he declared, "There are four of you, and four of me. One of me is real. The other three will lead you to opponents I have prepared..."
Kakashi raised his voice, reminding the team, "Stay together. Don't let him separate us."
Shino paused for a moment as his clone positioned in front of Asuma turned around, casting a suggestive glance back. "Oh, and just a friendly reminder, your opponent may be someone you truly want to see. You may regret it if you don't follow."
Asuma's grip tightened on his trench knife, his hand trembling. He watched the Shino clone nimbly leap from tree to tree, occasionally stealing glances that seemed to entice him to give chase.
"Asuma! Don't fall for it-" Kakashi shouted, but he could only sigh helplessly as he witnessed Asuma succumb to the bait and rush after the clone. Fixing his Sharingan on the clone standing before him, Kakashi spoke in a cold tone, "What kind of trick are you trying?"
The Shino clone facing Kakashi sported a sly smile. "You'll find out once you follow me." With that, he darted away, and Kakashi had no choice but to give chase. He commanded, "I'll leave things here to you, Tenzo, Guy."
"Oh! No problem, my rival!" Guy exclaimed, flashing a determined smile at Kakashi before redirecting his attention to Shino. "So, Shino-kun, are you ready to witness the power of youth?"
"If you can catch me," Shino retorted with a smile as he dashed across the treetops. Guy pursued him, shouting at the top of his lungs, "You can't escape from the power of youth!"
Yamato stood silently, his countenance stoic as he stared at the clone before him. A sigh escaped his lips. "In the end, I'm the only one left behind."
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! The forest was filled with the sound of Shino's rapid footsteps, his pace quickening as he navigated through the dense vegetation. Asuma trailed closely behind, his grip on his trench knife tight, a potent mix of anticipation and restraint coursing through his veins.
Abruptly, Shino came to a halt on a tree, his head turning slightly to glimpse Asuma perched on a nearby branch. A mischievous chuckle escaped Shino's lips as he remarked, "I've brought him. I'll leave him to you."
Asuma's body tensed, his gaze fixed on the fading form of Shino before him, disappearing from his sight. However, his attention swiftly shifted as his eyes fell upon an unknown masked female ninja emerging from the shadows of a nearby tree in the forest below.
With a decisive leap, Asuma landed in the forest clearing, his fiery eyes locked onto the masked figure. But soon, a frown creased his forehead as he realized that the figure bore no resemblance to the one he had envisioned. The faint glimpse of purple eyes peeking through the eye hole in the mask extinguished his flickering hopes. His voice trembled as he asked with hesitation, "Where is she?"
Asuma's question hung in the air, met with silence from his mysterious opponent. However, his words and thoughts seemed to trigger a hidden ability. Unbeknownst to him, imperceptible pollen in the air gathered, swiftly coalescing into a figure standing beside the silent masked ninja.
Asuma's gaze fixated upon the familiar form adorned in mesh armor wrapped in bandages, yet her entire visage was tainted a sandy palette of colors - an image that ignited a seething anger within him. "Did you believe a simple lie like this could satisfy me?" he seethed.
In the opposite direction of the forest, Kakashi effortlessly weaved through the dense forest, his hands moving with precision as he unleashed a flurry of shurikens and unleashed various ninjutsu techniques, all aimed at deciphering Shino's elusive abilities. Yet, all his attacks proved futile, as if the Shino before him were a mere illusion, a phantom.
Despite his active Sharingan, Kakashi found it unfathomable that the figure before him could be an illusion. How could there be a genjutsu potent enough to deceive his Sharingan? It seemed implausible. There had to be some hidden tricks at play.
Suddenly, the Shino standing before Kakashi came to an abrupt halt, turning around with a cryptic smile. "Your opponent lies below, Hatake Kakashi," the figure declared.
Kakashi narrowed his eyes, witnessing the Shino clone dissipate into smoke. "A shadow clone," he surmised.
His gaze descended, fixating upon a female masked ninja below. Cloaked in the ominous Akatsuki attire, a black hood obscured her features.
With a flicker, Kakashi materialized on the forest floor. "And who might you be?" he inquired.
The opponent remained silent, her left hand slowly drawing a kunai from its sheath. As her hand lifted into the air, the sleeve of her robe slipped back, revealing a red bracelet adorning her wrist.
Briefly pausing on the bracelet, Kakashi shifted his gaze away, a silent intensity emanating from his stare as he remarked. "Even if you won't answer, there are countless ways to extract the truth from you..."
Swift as lightning, Kakashi's hand, wreathed in blue chakra, pierced through the female ninja's heart from behind. His voice turned cold and chilling as he declared, "After I kill you."
With a poof, the Kakashi standing before the female ninja dissipated into smoke. Kakashi withdrew his hand, leaving a trail of blood suspended in the air. His Sharingan bore witness to the gaping hole in the ninja's back as she collapsed onto the ground, a pool of crimson spreading beneath her.
Yet, Kakashi's satisfaction was short-lived. Furrowing his brow, he sensed that it had been too easy. Despite the sudden ambush, his opponent hadn't even attempted to evade the attack, as if she didn't care to dodge.
The wind whispered against the dying ninja's slightly undulating form, indicating she still clung to life - an intended result of Kakashi's decision to slightly alter his strike at the critical moment.
Uncertainty gripped Kakashi's thoughts. He couldn't discern why he had spared her, but his intuition warned him that something was wrong.
He studied her for a moment, searching for any signs of a trap, yet his intuition remained silent, not warning him of any danger. Resolute, he took a step forward, gently turning the female ninja over, laying her flat on the ground.
As the hood slipped off her head, Kakashi's gaze fell upon her chin-length bob, straight brown hair. He was certain he didn't know any living female ninjas with the same haircut, especially ones of the same age as the one before him. Yet, an eerie sense of familiarity washed over him.
Unable to resist, Kakashi's steady hand reached for her mask. As he slowly lifted it, a chill coursed through his veins, hesitating for a fleeting moment as his hands trembled. A chilling sensation gripped his heart as his eyes landed on the rectangular purple markings on her face.
Nevertheless, he pressed on, mustering his courage to reveal the face concealed beneath the mask, his hand lifting the rest of the mask.
But as Kakashi beheld the subtly altered yet hauntingly familiar countenance before him, a surge of disbelief overwhelmed him. A shiver ran down his spine as his eyes narrowed, his heart lurching with a shocking revelation. "This is... impossible!"
