Capítulo 29: A Rich Businesswoman

"If you want anything, just buy it." Cassian frowned as he looked at his son's blaming eyes and gritted his teeth but Mary still shook her head.

She did not want to buy anything. She was just studying the market. The novel only said that the markets were bustling and it was a prosperous land. However, it did not explain what kind of goods were sold in the market since it was not business related.

But he was going to boss her around for a meager amount of money if she stayed dependent on him? Would it not be better if she assessed her options when she had a chance?

Her eyes were already sparkling as she checked out the goods.

"Are all these goods made by hand?" She asked the shop owner who was growing impatient too but she did not lose hope when she saw Cassian offering money freely.

"Is there another way to make clothes?" The clothes in our shop are of good quality. It takes a month to weave a single dress and the hand work is done with real silver thread with pearls from the magnificent Omegyan sea." she smiled when Marry smiled with joy.

"That is excellent. Thank you for your time." She took the shop owner's hands and shook them, startling the woman, and then without waiting for anyone, she walked out of the shop.

"Umm, are you buying the dress or not?" asked the woman after coming back to her senses when she noticed that the strange woman had already left but her husband and son were still standing there.

"Your wife seems to be worried about the payment but I assure you that the dress is not expensive. I am charging a fair amount, sir." she explained with her chest widening with confidence when Cassian blinked.

"That woman is not my wife!" as if that was the main point of the conversation! But hearing his cold voice, the woman cowered a bit but did not want to let go of the income.

"There, there! Your mother really liked the dress? Can you not ask your father to buy it for her?" They must have fought! That was why the woman was so cranky, the shop owner concluded as she targeted the innocent.

"He is not my father!" Alec said, but Alec still touched the dress. Mary was really looking elated when she was holding the dress. But he did not have the money.

"Pack this dress. We are taking it." Cassian sighed as he looked at his son's hurt face. He was worrying so much about just a piece of cloth when Cassian could buy the whole market for him if he asked.

"Yes, yes!" she packed the dress immediately and collected her one gold coin with a smile. She passed the packet to Alec who smiled brightly.

Alec ran a hand over the dress with his eyes shining.

"Thank you." For the first time when he looked at Cassian, his eyes were not cold and full of hatred. But when he tried to ruffle Alec's hair, Alec took a step back and walked out of the shop.

When they walked out, The girl had already disappeared from the crowd. Alec looked worried as he looked around.

"What took you so long?" Alec took a breath of relief when Mary walked out of another shop and looked at them when she noticed the package in Alec's hands.

"Ah! Did you buy your gift without me?" Too bad! She wanted to see the toy shop too as she already had a few designs in her mind but it was fine. At least they walked together and brought a gift! It was an improvement.

"No!" Alec shook his head immediately. "The dress is for you, Mo."

Alec sighed. No matter how many times he had called her mother, he never dared to do it in front of her.

"This dress is the one you have chosen, my lady." He said with a blush when she raised a brow.

"Oh!" Her lips twitched as she smiled at the child and ruffled his hair.

Csssian eyes zoomed at the scene. How easily did he let her touch him and play with his hair when he should be doing it?

But when he glared at the woman, she glared back at him.

"I will not let you cut my pay for it." she said slowly, making sure he would read it when she noticed his eyes narrowed at her and tsked!

"Now shall we walk and look for a toy for you?" she smiled and held his hands and they both started walking again ignoring Cassian.

The rays of the sun fell on her fair face which was filled with tenderness as she smiled at the young boy who was holding her hands and smiling back at her. The scene looked so peaceful and full of love. It gives the vibe of a picture-perfect family as if he was the extra one, an unwanted one forcing his way into a harmonious family.

His eyes turned darker as the thought crossed his mind.

"Ben!" The man came running as he looked at the dark face of his master.

"Tell me how I will win his heart. If he did not let me hold his hand by evening. I will make sure you train three times tomorrow." Ben shuddered and felt aggrieved at the injustice.

"Young Lord likes the lady too much. If you behave nicely with the lady, he will soften his attitude towards you, my Lord." he said but when he looked at Cassian's dark face, he gulped but added hurriedly, "Did you not see how his face softened and he thanked you when you bought the dress for the lady?"
